The Alpha's Blind Fate
Chapter 185: Two Missions

Chapter 185: Two Missions

ZINA

Zina momentarily forgot about her missing Staff while she concentrated on North’s shocking revelation. Brutality was nothing new in their world, but the knowledge that one had happened during such a critical time nonetheless was shocking in fact.

"A man lost his tongue?" Zina repeated the words slowly as if it would make it make more sense than it already did.

"It happened at one of the registered inns. The man was found tied to the inn’s post and gagged. When the gag was removed, his tongue was... missing. It had been cut off in one slice. I believe Beta DireWolf is already investigating."

Zina’s jaw dropped open in disbelief, but she collected herself back. Surely, a man losing his tongue after a drunken brawl was nothing of great importance? But if Marcus was investigating and North was telling her about it, then the matter wasn’t as insignificant as Zina thought of it.

"Is there something more to it?" She probed hesitantly. Her hairdo felt heavier for some reason. Must be all the standing.

North leaned in a bit, whispering conspiratory. "South has reasons to believe the man’s tongue was delivered to the Alpha King just this morning."

Zina’s eyes finally widened from true disbelief. "What?!"

"Not only that, a message was inscribed on said tongue. Whatever that message is has the Alpha King in a twist. He has dispatched a considerable army to ransack the inn and investigate everyone who lodged there."

"You don’t know what the message could be?"

"No, we don’t. Finding out that the Alpha King received a box with a tongue in it is already too great an effort on our side."

Zina started pacing about the room as her headache increased. She rubbed at her temple, not understanding a single thing.

"For what reason could the man’s tongue have been cut off?" Zina asked, trying to find some logic as to why a potential participant was delivering a tongue to the Alpha King he intended to serve.

While she was sleeping quite turbulently that early morning, Daemon had instead been entertaining morbid gifts.

North looked hesitant, but he answered anyway. "The people that were drinking with him that night said he spewed blasphemous words against you, Theta. For that he surely deserves to lose more than just a tongue."

"Blasphemous words?" Zina repeated, even more confused.

"I shall not taint your ears with the details of it, but they were blasphemous enough to punish him with castration."

Zina shook her head as if to arrange her thoughts. "How does saying those blasphemous words connect with him losing his tongue? Surely, you’re not inferring that someone took his tongue for what he said?"

"You’ve a lot of ardent supporters, Theta. Anyone would do the same for you, stranger or not." North chanted ardently, eyes shining with resoluteness.

Zina kept massaging her temples for that was the only thing that she could do in place of frustratingly tugging at her already well made hair.

"No one would want to jeopardise their contestant status simply because they want to take some petty vengeance for me. I am sure it is more than this, have South keep digging into it. Meanwhile, I shall go see his majesty."

"Of course, Theta."

"The real reason why I have asked to see you personally is because I intend to send you travelling somewhere."

"Where is it, Theta? Just point to the place, and I shall be found doing your bidding instantly."

Zina temporarily stopped pacing, facing North squarely. "Two places in fact. First, I want you to go to the East and find a woman for me. She once led a fortune telling troupe known as Two Sides of the Coin. I don’t know if she still leads the troupe but make her any offer she wants and ensure she comes to me."

Besides being a good traveler, North was the most diplomatic of the Five Heralders. He had a smooth, silky tongue that could even talk the devil himself out of being evil. And only he could manage to convince the woman who once told Zina a vision to leave the East and come North.

Zina figured she needed to learn more about her powers at the very least, and who would be the best teacher if not the woman who had told her; You shall rise to heights women can only dream of in the dead of the night, but your disaster shall quickly follow after for you shall meet a man who is meant to take your life away, but instead, he will take your breath instead.

The prophecy was shrewd at most, especially since it seemed as though the words had come to pass. And yet, Zina had a feeling that when the woman spoke of her rise, she didn’t mean the position of Theta. And if that were the case, then her fortune and disaster was yet to come to pass.

"Any offer she wants?" North repeated as if to be sure.

"No matter what she demands; money or whatever, just make sure she agrees to come to me."

North nodded grimly. "And the next place?"

"I need you to go to the Iron Coast and find information on the already executed Screamers Pack, just anything of import about them really."

North nodded, asking no question as to why he was investigating an executed pack. "Is there anything you want me to look for in particular?"

It took everything in her to not twist her fingers nervously. "Nothing really. Just look for anything. Also, keep your ear on the ground for a man who possesses Red Eyes and perhaps, wears a masquerade mask. He is probably a good shifter, so take that into account too."

"Understood, Theta."

"Be careful, and make sure you don’t spend more than two weeks at the Iron Coast."

North smiled, "I shall do as you have asked."

And with that, the Heralder slipped on his cloak while Seraph led the man away through an inconspicuous path down the corridor of Zina’s dwellings. It was honestly dangerous for Zina to be entertaining guests at her place, especially when Daemon easily found out about her visit to Igar mere minutes after. But it was important for her to be connected to the outside world and what was happening there.

Taking one look at her room, unconsciously searching for her staff again, she took off to Daemon’s dwellings in the hopes that she would find out more about the strange tongue that had been delivered to him. And the thing that had been engraved on it that had him so incensed.
