Chapter 166: The Man And The Pendant

"Yuri NorthSteed has been sold to the Red Sisters. I told you, Daemon, did I not? That I shall rain hell on you if you take another instead of me? Goodluck proving to the people how good an uncle you’re!"

ZINA

In less than five minutes, Marcus had already mobilised a hundred Epsilons for Zina because there had been one issue with the two of them being the only people that were in charge of the castle, and that was the fact that two of them could not leave at the same time.

Especially Marcus because even though Zina didn’t want to admit it, the castle couldn’t do without him. Not when he was holding all the reins in Daemon’s absence.

It was painful to say, but the castle could do without Zina. She wasn’t that capable enough to take charge of it alone.

"When you get to the BloodMoon Pack, send me a messenger pigeon once you get to know the state of things." Marcus repeated to her like she was a child for the umpteenth time that afternoon. "I sense something far sinister is happening, so do not hesitate to communicate at all times."

Zina rolled her eyes as the stable boy readied her carriage. A sinister plan was playing in her head too, but she was unsure how to lay it bare before him.

Finding the courage, she tipped her head up and said. "I can’t just move with these few guards."

Marcus narrowed his eyes at her in suspicion, "What do you mean by that?"

"If the BloodMoons intend on setting a trap for me, I don’t think a hundred Epsilons can go against their hundreds of private warriors."

Marcus’ nose flared. "Exactly why I’ve been trying to make you understand that we should not invite them as Upper Echelon Guests."

Zina rolled her eyes at him.Was the man seriously resurrecting their argument at that critical time. "I want someone capable with me."

"I’ve already lended you the most I can do."

Zina nodded, acting as if the thought was bothering her more than she let on. "True. His Majesty has absconded to goddess knows where with the Pack’s best warriors, and the next capable person is you and unfortunately, the castle needs you. I don’t see any other way about it, but I need someone very capable with me too."

Marcus frowned. "This is a matter of emergency as you can see." He growled in frustration muttering something that suspiciously sounded like ’Daemon would have my head’ before he continued, "you just have something in mind so do share."

Zina folded her arms, throwing her eyes to the sky as if the thought of what she was about to say equally despaired her as well. Ordinarily she would be running straight to find out what happened to Yuri. But between blaming Daemon for allowing Bella to pull one over them, and her need to kill two birds with one stone, she stalled for a good reason.

"Since you can’t do much, why not make use of what we have?"

Marcus frowned suspiciously. In the three weeks they had been getting to unwillingly know each other, they had both learnt about the other person so Marcus was rightfully suspicious of her.

"What do you mean what we have?"

"I will certainly feel at ease if I’ve my sister with me." Zina said with a despondent sigh as if she was tired even before making her journey.

"Your sister?" Marcus repeated with a frown, obviously furious at the way Zina seemed to be dragging out her true intent.

Zina played with a strand of her hair. "The Red Hand Fionna of course." Zina purred like that had to be the most obvious fact in the world.

As she had anticipated, Marcus didn’t seem confused at what she was talking about which only confirmed that Daemon knew of the relationship Zina shared with the woman.

"Simply because she once shared the same surname as you do doesn’t mean I can simply release her at your will."

Zina sighed as if she were truly tired. "It can’t be helped then. I am sure you’ve a plethora of people who will be willing to run this errand for you."

Marcus growled, not taking lightly to being manipulated. Unfortunately for him, Zina was determined to stand her ground in the matter."

"Do you think you can handle her?" Marcus asked, referring to Fionna.

"She’s my sister afterall." Zina drawled, enjoying the other man’s discomfort a little more than she should. "Besides, this involves the Red Sisters so don’t you think having one of them on our side will be more effective in our investigation

In less than ten minutes, Marcus was dragging Fionna to Zina, and the man hardly looked thrilled with his job. He pushed the woman to her while he tore of a pendant from her neck.

Fionna growled, wanting to take the pendant back, but Marcus held it from her with narrowed eyes.

"I know how much this pendant means to you," he growled menancingly while Fionna stared at him with a look that could kill grown men.

Dangling the pendant before her, Marcus continued. "Should any harm come to the Theta, I will destroy this pendant and the man that owns it."

Simultaneously, both Zina and Fionna eyes widened at Marcus’ words, but the fight immediately left Fionna who simply glared at Marcus like she wanted to strangle him with her bare hands. Zina took in said pendant with her eyes, there was nothing special about it, if anything she would call it scrap metal.

But Fionna obviously cherished it and the man who had given it to her if Marcus’ words were anything to go by.

Fionna got into the carriage with her and Zina could feel that her anger was now transferred on her.

"Who was the man?" Zina asked cautiously, not wanting their journey to be one that would happen in silence, but Fionna only glared at her, still feeling salty from Marcus’ earlier action.

So much for saving the woman.
