The Alpha's Blind Fate
Chapter 155: Our Shame

Chapter 155: Our Shame

ZINA

"You saw Igar?" Fionna repeated, her voice painted with something that resembled disbelief. Even though it was a fact that Red Sisters were emotionless, the extent of Fionna’s visceral reaction only went on to show that the woman was truly shocked at Zina’s revelation.

Not like she was more shocked than Zina herself was.

Zina’s lips thinned as she chewed the insides of her cheeks. "Only he could be that man." Zina muttered, trapped in a nightmare of unwarranted touches and whispered curses.

Fiona gripped Zina by the shoulders, shaking her as if that would change the fact. "You don’t even know what Igar looks like, you must have seen wrong."

Zina smiled broadly, wishing that were true. But it was a known fact that one need not see certain things to know what it looked like.

Going by the position the man stood at near Modrich, it only signified that he was the Beta of the Pack. Over the years, Zina had truly tried to act like information concerning the WolfKnights was none of her concern. But she had heard the name of the current Beta, and it sounded nothing like Igar....

The man who was the beginning and the end of a childhood nightmare that skewed her love for the WolfKnights. The man who put her in a gilded cage, made sure she was comfortable in it, until she knew nothing of what true freedom and love felt like.

Igar assaulted her and Fionna when they were just eight and seven respectively. And by assault, Zina meant both the physical and sexual kind. The man was depraved, preying on two girls who were orphans and possessed no true love.

"You must have truly lived quite the life with the Red Sisters if you had no idea that the current Beta of the WolfKnights is Igar."

Fionna balled her fists, shaking with anger while blood dripped to the floor as her fingers dug into her palm. "I shall kill him now." She growled, eyes conveying that she meant her words.

Zina smiled shrewdly, knowing that standing before her was the perfect knife to make up for all the ruthlessness she could imagine. "Kill?" She scoffed, "I am afraid I do not intend to give Igar the easy way out."

"Easy?" Fionna repeated, her face souring as if she had been slapped hard. "Nothing about the death I intend to deliver to Igar will be easy."

"Except you’re in no position to offer anyone death."

"What?"

"The Red Sisters are here for you, Fionna." Zina announced recklessly while Fionna’s face darkened as if she had been struck by thunder. Zina could have sworn that fear lingered on the woman’s features, but maybe she had seen wrong.

When Fionna said nothing, Zina pressed forward. "You must have wished to escape your fate, but it seems the powers above are reluctant to see you leave the Red Sisters just yet."

Fionna’s eyes turned menacing. "Perhaps I shall take you, the Alpha King’s mate, hostage and make my escape."

Zina curved an eyebrow at her. "You could, but do you seriously believe that Daemon would give in to your demands just because of me, a mere Theta to his Pack?"

Fionna smiled a knowing smile. "I’ve seen a lot of heartless men, Zina. And I know that a man such as the Alpha King tops the list. However, I’ve met men that are smitten, and you Zina, are the very object of his obsessions."

Strangely, hearing a third party admit to what she had been trying to convince herself of made her heart skip a beat, but she put her love to the side, determined to see this through.

"Do you trust me?"

"I trust no one, Zina. Not you, not the Red Sisters, certainly not the WolfKnight’s, and not your king either."

Zina took a step forward, holding the woman’s eyes. "Neither do I trust you. Not from the first day you mixed my food with insects, nor the days the only companion I had was you."

Fionna smiled shrewdly, and Zina guessed the woman too was thinking back to the sordid past they both shared.

"You might not trust me," Zina said intentionally, "but you must trust that I intend to see Igar dead just as you do. So I must ask that you resign to your fate for now, and be assured that I will not allow the Red Sisters to take you."

Fionna seemed to be thinking about it, while Zina waited in the weight of the silence that fell between both of them. Despite how she had worded the request, it was obvious that she was asking for Fionna’s trust in this matter.

Finally, Fionna spoke. "Your mate has boundless dreams." She said, referring to Daemon for the second time that day. "He intends to take over the whole of Vraga Zina, and I’ve a feeling that your quest will go against his plans. Will you go against him regardless in your determination to see this through?"

"I will be careful...."

"I ask if you are determined to mess up his plans if that means Igar must be dead?" Fionna cut her harshly, aiming for a straight answer.

Zina braced herself, knowing that Fiona’s harshness was justified. "I am." She answered coldly, conveying her own determination.

Fionna took a step closer to her, eyes shining with something Zina couldn’t quite identify. "This shame... this revenge, only you and I know of it Zina. I will take Igar down regardless if you have a change of heart, and then I will come for you if you don’t keep to your words."

Zina scoffed harshly as her anger brimmed to the surface. " A change of heart?" She repeated like the words held a virus she didn’t wish to come in contact with. "It seems to me that you must have forgotten our shame if you think, I, having a change of heart is remotely possible."

Fionna nodded. "Good. I shall now foolishly trust you instead of doing the wise thing which is running away from all of this."

Just as Fionna said the words, Epsilons stormed the place, circling the woman.

"By order of Restorer Daemon NorthSteed, we’ve been ordered to take you, Red Hand Fionna, under custody."

Fionna didn’t protest as the guards cuffed her with chains made out from pure, unprocessed silver. On contact with her skin, the silver burned her to the point steam rose up. Zina watched as Fionna simply rolled her eyes at the torturing chains while the guards led her out. Zina really couldn’t imagine the kind of torture the woman experienced in the hands of the Red Sisters at just seven years old.

She couldn’t imagine what kind of torture would make a woman barely flinch while cuffed with unprocessed silver. Fionna was led out, while the man she was initially torturing remained on the floor, unmoving and not breathing.
