Chapter 128: Suspicions And Questions

ZINA

"Can you kindly tell me why the Matriarchy attacked the rogue camp?"

If Daemon thought that his silence would unnerve Zina simply because she couldn’t see his face, then he was sorely wrong. Her eyes masked, Zina made the best out of her lack of sight by stretching out her senses like the tentacles of an octopus.

Through the gesture, she could feel the tension that swept the air as the question rolled off her tongue. Zina waited for his answer, whether it would be the lie or the truth. But somehow, she knew that Daemon wouldn’t be that straightforward on either side.

"You ask that as if I somehow managed to move the almighty, recluse Pack." He drawed the words like a tightly coiled serpent waiting to attack.

"You caused the rogues to kidnap me, it would be foolish of me to underestimate you, Daemon NorthSteed."

There was silence again, but this time, the silence was harsher, trailing behind his name that echoed in the room like the beckoning of stiff ice.

"Won’t you answer me. You’ve always prided yourself in the truth, never relenting to call me out when you sniff the slightest scent of my deceit," Zina taunted, not because she sought to irk him, but because it was necessary.

"Now is the time for you to tell your own truth." Zina finished harshly with her head raised high. She refused to be buried in the intimidating silence he laid bare before her. Tonight, she would get her answers Heat or not.

"Fine. I played a little game that moved the Matriarchy the same way I played the same game that caused the Rogue army to kidnap you."

Zina held her breath as she drowned in his answer. "Do these two games have anything in common? Are they somewhat related?"

"What if they are? It’s been a full moon since it happened, why are you so curious now? Do you think you can handle the truth that you seek? Why not continue living in the ignorant bliss that you’ve made a home of?"

Zina blinked behind her fold. It was so shocking how Daemon had somewhat turned her question against her even when she had nothing to do with the unknown answers.

"I am afraid you’ve gotten something wrong, Daemon NorthSteed. My question is not about me, it is about what you’ve done. And my senses tell me you’ve done something against me."

"Do not fault me for your ignorance." He spat coldly and without any care. At the same time a maidservant announced from outside the door that the buckets of ice were ready, but she was ignored by both of them.

Exasperation engulfed Zina as her grip against her staff tightened. Another bolt of her heat slammed through her, knocking out her breath and travelling through her body painfully, but with all her mustered strength she ignored it.

There was a huge wall that stood rooted in place between her and Daemon, and that huge wall she figured was the question she asked. His reluctance to answer it only meant one thing—that whatever the answer was was something he intended to use for himself, and it would become useless if he told her of it. Zina figured it also probably tied into the hidden reason why he accepted the bond in the first place and his main aim in wanting to become Alpha King.

What could be this wall they could not surpass? And what were the implications for her? Should she just ignore it? Or must she dig deeper? Amidst her conflict, the list of questions she had carefully prepared glared back at her.

Wanting to confirm again, she asked. "Why did you accept our bond?"

This time around, his steps approached her and Zina didn’t find it in her to stop him again. When he reached her, his hands clutched the staff and pried it away from her, tossing it aside.

The sound of the staff clattering against the floor mixed with the sound of her laboured breath.

"Because I am obsessed with you."

Liar!

Zina smiled, "Is that so?" She asked in a husky voice, burying her questions. There’s only one way to cage a wolf, and hunting it is simply not the way. Already, the wolf was a supreme hunter and one such as Daemon simply couldn’t be

To cage him until she got her answers, her claws but clutch his heart.

"If you remove your blindfold, you will see the truth in my eyes."

Zina arched into his hand that was now caressing her cheeks lightly. The smug smile still tugged her lips. Since she was laying with the devil, she had to hide all her cards from him.

"Even blindfolded, I always see your eyes." She confessed.

And then his lips were on hers, sucking her like the essence of life itself.

Tugging, nibbling, caressing, tonguing.

As he kissed her senseless, Zina remembered each and everyone of the question she intended to ask him.

Why did the matriarchy pack attack the rogues when they never involved themselves in political affairs?

His lips tugged her bottom lip with his hot soft ones, sucking it like the cure to his madness was sewn in there.

Who was his rejected mate?

His hands on her cheeks left there and gripped her waist, tugging her harder to himself until a wanton moan escaped her lips as her core rubbed against his hardness.

Why did he reject her?

Zina’s hands crept up hugging his neck as she lifted herself up on her tiptoes. Her breast hidden in the flimsy robe rubbed against his chest as their lips melded together madly, becoming one.

Could there be something more to him wanting to become Alpha King?

His lips left hers, and before Zina could mourn the absence, they were trailing down her neck deliciously, causing her to pant hard as he peppered her with small, insane kisses that threatened to drive her to the point of insanity. Everywhere was blindingly hot, and behind her blindfold she still managed to see red.

And why is he her second chance mate? Why him of all people?

His lips trailed down her chest and sucked on a puckered nipple, taut from all the tension that swirled between them. Zina’s eyes behind her blindfold flew open as she was sure that she would die from pleasure of him and his all. Ignorant to the torture his touch elsewhere on her body cause her, he sucked harder on her nipple, flickering the points brutally like it was some play thing. Zina cried out, arching into her back and tightening her hold on his broad shoulders.

She was falling, and there was no one to catch her.
