Chapter 118: Her Caged Emotions
Chapter 118: Her Caged Emotions
ZINA
"Make me, Alpha King!"
Zina found her sense of direction and stormed away from the pillar that had become her guiding stick, breathing hard and ignoring the threatening steps behind her.
Daemon could burn in hell with his voice commanding her like she was created for the sole purpose of obeying him. She stumbled but she didn’t care, and not less than two seconds into her futile escape, his strong hands wrapped around her waist, halting her steps.
"How many hands will I have to cut off today for your foolishness!" He growled in a voice that shot straight to her core and not her head.
Zina heard the people about them scampering away in search of shelter from the man’s unusual rage. He was normally calm so what was wrong with him? Was his ’control’ on some sort of vacation she was not aware of? And what was this thing about cutting off hands?
An errant memory slammed into her as Zina remembered the hands that reached out to touch her when she entered into heat at the Great Hall. Following that memory was the sound of flesh tearing and bones ripping.
The gods, had Daemon really ripped off the hands of those responsible? No, he couldn’t have, right?
Zina ignored the memory, stuffing them into a place where she would revisit them later. She used all her might to pry off his fingers that were wrapped against her waist, but she might as well be trying to move a century old formed mountain for Daemon barely budged.
He was breathing hard though behind her like he was heavily incensed which only served to annoy Zina further. How daring of the man to act angry before her when he had all but repeatedly called her a liar in a comely manner.
Since she couldn’t pry off his fingers, Zina resorted to hitting him on his chest, which might have been a wall. Her fists might as well have been paper, but that was far from the point she was about to make. She searched her mind for some scathing words to hurl at him and she finally found one.
"You ungrateful bastard!" She screamed, still blindly hitting him. She knew that the second part of the insult far from applied to him, but then again, still not the point. "I told you something was coming for your life, and you didn’t believe me! I put my body in harm’s way to save your pathetic stupid life and you couldn’t even muster it in you to be grateful you bastard!"
Zina was breathing hard at that point. Her body was pressed close to Daemon’s and her mind was at the verge of becoming muddled suffice to say. But seeing that Daemon seemed stunned at her outburst of his silence was anything to go about, she continued.
"You asked me who I am?" Zina seethed, delivering another blow to his chest. "Well let me tell you! I am Zina, the woman who couldn’t live for herself simply because she was forced to tell a lie! I am Zina, the woman who carries a surname she has no claim over! I am Zina, the woman who lived for you for six fucking years! I am Zina, the woman who endured humiliations just to see the day when your reign will come!"
At the end of her outburst, Zina felt wetness on her cheeks and some of them dropped to her chest, trailing down all the way to the path between her breasts.
Damnit, this was not the plan. She had never planned to open up her heart before anyone, especially not before Daemon NorthSteed of all people. But there she was, almost bawling like a newborn baby.
His silence was all that met her, but his grip on her waist tightened. She was yet to understand his obsession withholding a woman’s waist, or maybe it was just her waist, but she couldn’t deny all the ways it made her feel when he gripped them.
When he held her like that, she felt protected, like she could go against the world without any consequences for he would always have her back. And honestly, those barrages of feelings him gripping her waist erupted within her. And those feelings were nothing short of scary.
"Are you done yet?" He muttered gruffly, like there were also a thousand unspoken words he could say but chose not to.
Zina laughed bitterly, tasting her salty tears on the tips of her lips. She shut her eyes, blindly looking up to the sky as if she was searching for the answer to all her problems in them. In the short time that she had come to know Daemon NorthSteed all over again, she had felt a million emotions she never thought was remotely possible.
She was unfurling quickly, turning into a puddle of a fragile, emotional mess. And while she loved the feeling— the fact that she could bare herself before a man, the fact that she could feel things with a man—it was the man in question that made her newfound reality frighteningly scary.
Are you done yet? The question still hung between both of them, and Zina knew he was still waiting for her answer.
The fight left her and she felt her shoulders slump against her volition. "Of course I am done, you cold man." She spat, conveying her nonexistent hate for him in her words. The fact that she had all but bared her soul before him and yet that was his only response was humiliating, not like she was expecting more from the man.
Cold. Unfeeling. Always in control. Tactful in his dealings. Manipulative. That was who he was, so Zina tried to console herself that it wasn’t her fault, or his... it was just their natures clashing against each other.
"So what is the conclusion of the culmination of all you said?" He asked suddenly, confusion colouring his words.
First, it was witnessing him shout and rearing out of control. Now, it was witnessing his confusion. Zina truly was having a bad replay of ’Daemon Special Day’ cause that was the only possible explanation as to why she was suddenly experiencing him being his opposites.
When Zina didn’t respond to his strange line of questioning, he emphasised. "What is the emotion we can peg all that you’ve expressed; like? Hate? Bitterness?"
Zina laughed bitterly again. She guessed it was all of them and more, but that didn’t matter much for she was not going to be baring her heart to him anymore. "Why are you asking?"
His response came immediately in his signature dark, enticing voice, and it knocked the breath out of her.
"Because I am obsessed with you and I don’t know if there are words that could ever possibly describe it."
