The Alpha's Blind Fate -
Chapter 112: His Caged Brutality
Chapter 112: His Caged Brutality
ZINA
They arrived at the Arctic Palace soon after without Zina responding to Falcon’s confession because honestly what would she say?
Falcon’s confessions became the least of her problems when they entered the Great Hall that was filled with people and seemed to have been frozen by a silence that had been caused by none other than the presence of Daemon NorthSteed.
It was like walking on thin ice as Zina tried her best to maintain her aura of a Theta as she made her way to the centre of the domed hall where the First and Second Rank officials stood.
Daemon’s withering stare rested on her and Falcon who would have ordinarily been a Second Rank Official seeing he was the Alpha of the small Stone Pack, but was a First Rank Official by virtue of his position as a legitimate brother of the Alpha King.
Zina shrugged off the stare noticing that Eldric’s gamma and delta were nowhere to be found. Indeed, it would seem as if the rumours that Daemon had imprisoned them were true.
Normally, it was custom that the new Alpha King would maintain the already existing position and ranks, but it had become apparently obvious to all that Daemon intended to upturn and replace the whole hierarchy. A decision that would surely bring about a vehement opposition like no other. Zina had no idea why Daemon was choosing to go the hard route, but she secretly admired his ability to riot against Hierarchy.
However, despite her admiration for his reckless decision...she knew better than anyone that the Pack Royal Houses were a harder nut to crack than the five High Ranked packs. The battle to be fought would be fiercer than demanding the allegiance of the Five.
Theta Audrey slithered to her like a snake despite the grave silence in the hall.
"A word, Theta Zina." She whispered low enough that even Falcon that stood by her side could not hear.
"Not now, Theta Audrey." Zina gritted, attempting to hide her mouth discreetly so no one would know that she was speaking. Audrey was choosing the wrongest time to be her gossipy self, and Zina wasn’t exactly thrilled about it.
But Audrey was unrelenting... going as far as tugging Zina away from Falcon’s side where they were at the front, to the back of the gathered officials where multiple bodies obstructed them from Daemon’s blank stare.
The man was not sitting on the throne in the great hall. No, instead he was sitting on an ordinary chair in the middle of the hall, and he was perusing through a book like it was more interesting than the crowd of very important people that were standing before him.
His posture was relaxed, almost nonchalant in fact... but Zina knew enough to know the man had donned his mask on. And if Seraph’s fear was anything to go by, she would say the mask was the most perfect one anyone had ever seen.
Just what lurked beneath the man? And how much of it did he intend to unleash at the gathering? He didn’t look angry, but....
"What is it Theta Audrey?" Zina asked sarcastically when their little escape was over and Daemon’s figure was no longer in their line of vision.
Audrey smiled sweetly, blinking innocently. "Why are you so rigid, sister?" She asked like the answer wasn’t so obvious to her.
Zina’s only response was a scathing silence that spoke more about her impatience than any other thing.
"Fine," Audrey said, "the man who has summoned us today is the King whom you’ve declared to be legitimate by a prophecy that took myself by surprise. Not only that, I hear he is your fated mate."
"What about it?" Zina said impatiently, eager to escape Audrey’s queries which in her opinion was not going anywhere good.
The woman smiled shrewdly. "Well in view of your many relationships with him, I assume you will know why he has made such a jarring summons. I mean, this gathering makes you uncomfortable too, no?"
Zina simply frowned. "I apologise but I do not have an answer to your question. Now if you will excuse me."
Zina made to step away, but of course Audrey wasn’t done.
"Congratulations on the mate bond." She said in a cheerful voice. "I know it must have been hard to not find a legitimate excuse to break yourself away from the mate bond."
Zina turned a furtive glare on the infuriating woman. Her icy eyes begging the woman to keep her voices lower as the attention of the people around them was already stirred.
Audrey came closer, a daring smile on the tips of her lips. "Well well, what can I say but I look forward to seeing just how deep and confusing your many titles will get. But I must say that I find that allying with you during these trying times will be my honour. Please, do not hesitate to call upon me when it gets too hard."
Zina glared and rejoined the officials at the front. She found that Daemon was still reading a book, and none of the people that were gathered had yet found the confidence to dare ask him why he had gathered them without saying anything. More Pack representatives streamed into the place until they were complete.
The tension in the room stretched, snapping like a rubber as the huge doors leading to the great hall were shut close after that by Yaren who looked ever as grim as usual. Even that did not stir a reaction out of Daemon who was still reading his book like it contained the secrets of the world that would disappear after a few minutes.
Finally, it was the Alpha of the BloodMoon Pack that spoke. "Alpha Prince Daemon NorthSteed," the audacious man gritted, "you’ve summoned us this day without addressing us even before you’re officially crowned the Alpha King. Don’t you find that you’re being too rude?"
Almost after the words rolled off his lips, severed heads started falling from the upstairs halls down to where they stood, painting everywhere red.
Commotion rang out, many screamed, and the severed head of the Delta of the NorthSteed Pack rolled to her feet, and Zina found she was unable to scream.
