DAEMON
Zina tugged harder at his hand, her fingers entwining perfectly with his.
"Don’t you know that I’ve long been waiting for you?" she whispered breathlessly, slightly turning restlessly on her bed.
Daemon knew in that moment that he had to ignore the burn marks that combusted where their fingers met and leave the room. So he was about to do just that when her next words stopped him just as her fingers tugged harder at his.
"Do not leave me!" she whispered strongly, almost as if she was on the edge of tears. Her eyes were still shut, and Daemon was at that point truly curious of what she was dreaming about that could evoke such a strong response from her unconcious state.
Voice cracking as if she was breaking, she whispered tearfully. "Don’t you know how long I’ve been waiting for you? All that I’ve had to endure to get to this point alive? So please... stay with me. Now that you’re back...you cannot leave."
It was like a desperate plea to his ears... a plea he knew was a deceitful as the fact that he shouldn’t be listening to this.
Daemon let out a huge breath, staring at the way her smaller fingers entwined with his larger ones. He wanted to leave... no, he should leave. But that plea, regardless of how misplaced it could be, merged with his own half-baked resolution. And before he knew it, he had kicked off his boots and slipped into her bed that was way too small for both of them, underneath her quilt. He laid beside her with their fingers still entwined courtesy of her tight grip.
He did his best to ignore the heat that seeped from her naked form to his. He tried to put as much as space between them as he could with their fingers still entwined, but that didn’t douse his awareness. An awareness that his wolf found way too much glee from.
’Claim her! Mate with her and she will become totally ours—mind, body and soul!’ His DireWolf screamed, but matter how much more powerful his current wolf form was than his former form, Daemon would be a dead man the day he would give up control of his mind to a mindless feral thing.
Even if said mindless feral thing was another part of him.
As he laid on the bed, staring at the ceiling and listening to Zina’s calm breathing as her nightmares released her, he knew that there was chaos waiting for him back there at the Arctic Castle... a lot of things to do, a lot of pieces to move, a lot of deeds to oversee. But just for that moment, he was willing to be selfish and steal a little bit of reprieve from this woman that had long beckoned on him like a whispered spell without her herself having a knowledge of the power she had imprinted in him.
He remembered when it had all started. At the pesky corridor of the Arctic Castle when a ball of blinding white had run into him. At the time, he truly thought he was meeting with a ghost until those red lips of hers were exposed. Red lips that tempted him to kiss them. Red lips that he had regretted not kissing as he was banished into the unknown.
He was realizing now as he stared at her that her skin wasn’t as white as he initially thought it to be. The woman was probably pale like a ghost back then from thinking of the evil deed she had to perform.
Daemon shut his eyes, willing all of his thoughts to disappear as he slipped into Zina’s dreams and stole some of the sleep she had probably reserved for herself for a lifetime. And that night, he actually fell asleep besides the woman whom he shared a bond, a hate, and an obsession with.
*ZINA*
"Tell me, Theta of my house, do you know the day you will die?"
The man in Zina’s dream asked again. The same man that Zina had less than two encounters with, but had of recently become a very vivid part of her everyday life, etched at about everywhere in her daily life.
Raising her chin up as his body leaned deliciously into hers while she was backed to a wall, she was tempted to give the same generic answer... the answer that went like, ’the goddess hasn’t shown me yet when I would die’. But she decided against it. Something in her was roused, and it aimed to take a gamble with the unassuming man before her.
She wanted to play this game just as well as he played it.
Rising on the tips of her toes, she stretched her height until her head was at his neck. Looking up to the man she whispered scandalously. "If I were to tell you that I am to die today, would you not feel pain? Would you not go crazy at the thought that I exist no more?"
The man simply stared at her like he was stunned to the point that he had no answer to proffer back to her. His dark eyes were like a bottomless pit of aloofness and a carefully buried well of wisdom that couldn’t be easily seen from a distance. No, one had to stand close to him just as she currently did, to see the vast knowledge sewn in them.
"Your Majesty," she whispered as if she was in a trance, and maybe she was because she found herself drowning in those black pits, "I’ve long obsessed over you. I wonder if you obsess over me too."
His breath hitched, his eyes flared with desire and turned darker if that were possible. Then a dark smirk tugged at the edges of his lips as he looked down on her.
"Do you truly know what it means to obsess over someone?" He asked in a clandestine voice that made her tremble on her raised feet. She swallowed, her body strung tight like a musical string, about to snap in the hand of a bad musician.
Sometimes, she wondered if her dreams were a different kind of reality, because this conversation with this man was way too real to not be reality.
It had always been like this in a damn long time.
Before Zina could respond to that question, she was harshly tugged to a reality where her back stung like a thousand needles were pricking her. She stirred awake, observing that she was in her room at the Moon Shrine.
It was still dark outside though her window, probably the very early hours of morning. She tried to remember the events that happened before she fell into what had seemed like the longest sleep, but a bad headache caused her to squint.
She abandoned the mission of trying to recollect her memories as she felt a cold breeze caressing her skin.
Had she slept naked to the cold Northern Wind?
She groaned, attempting to tug her quilt to cover herself properly when her eyes drifted to a large figure sleeping besides her. Her eyes widened, and every residue of sleep left in her was successfully wiped away.
It was then that she realized that her left arm was held captive in larger hands that obviously belonged to a man, and she also noted that indeed, she was naked underneath the quilt that covered her.
She tried to free her fingers from the man’s vise grip as panic flared in her, but she might as well have been trying to move a mountain. She inched closer to the man, and the lone candle that dimly illuminated the room showed strong chiseled features, angular jawline and prominent cheekbones, full lips and slight facial scruff framing ruggedly handsome features... Daemon NorthSteed.
Horror engulfed her in a vise grip, and the notion of a scandal chilled her to the bone as she made one last desperate attempt to remember what had happened. Surely, they could not have completed the bond? They could not have had sex?
Zina was still in over her head and failing memory when those same dark eyes she had just seen in her dreams flew open, watching her. Zina’s eyes widened as their clandestine position became way too intimate than it should be.
Unable to bear the stretching silence, she spluttered. "Surely...we did not... sleep together?"
Those handsome features morphed into a frown. "I believe if I fucked you, you would never be in doubt nor go as far as asking me such stupid question."
Zina gaped in horror at him, not believing that this normally, seemingly put together man just spewed such crude words.
