The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 408: Transformation
Chapter 408: Transformation
It felt like I had graduated from something important when the signs of my morning sickness finally subsided and then completely disappeared from my life. According to the prince, I regained my rosy complexion and he could feel how lively I became. On top of that, I also regained my appetite. To be even more accurate, my appetite for food and dessert became so crazy that I snacked multiple times a day between meals. As a result, I began gaining weight at a rapid speed.
Once again, the prince consulted the doctors seriously about this phenomenon after I confessed to him that I yearned for food endlessly. I felt very hungry, and that could only mean that my baby felt very hungry as well.
“Is this normal? Is it healthy for her to be gaining weight at such a rapid pace?" the prince asked the doctor with a deep frown between his brows.
"Women experience pregnancy differently, Your Highness. With that being said, it isn’t entirely uncommon for the lady to have a surge in appetite," the doctor replied politely.
The prince eyed another doctor to hear his opinion. The doctor nodded his head slightly before sharing his thoughts.
"I would advise the lady to eat less because the baby’s development doesn’t need this much additional energy. The excess energy will accumulate as fat in the lady’s body and that could lead to health issues even after giving birth. If possible, I would advise to control the lady’s calorie intake," the doctor suggested.
"You heard him, Mila. I guess you should eat a more balanced meal and cut down on those desserts," the prince said to me quite sternly.
"I’ll try. Our baby feels so keen on overeating," I said before letting out a soft laugh.
Despite my worries, it seemed like I was cruising along my pregnancy journey quite well after the episode of morning sickness went away. When I entered into my fifth month of pregnancy, I had gotten somewhat used to dealing with my worries. I focused more on activities that would benefit my baby, such as gentle exercises advised by the doctors and completely supervised by the nurses when I performed them. I tried to take comfort from the fact that nothing had gone wrong so far. However, at the back of my mind, I could still vividly recall the moment that Selena experienced a miscarriage randomly without any foretelling signs. That served as a harsh reminder that the worst could strike at any moment.
The loud sound of thunder distracted me from my thoughts. When I looked out of the window, the rain had started to fall. The drizzle quickly turned into a full-fledged thunderstorm with the rain beating hard against the window. A few maids rushed by while muttering complaints about the unexpected arrival of the storm.
I wouldn’t have cared so much about the storm had Prince Leonard didn’t have to leave to attend to his duties since early in the morning. Judging by the time, he should be making his way back, and that made me worry if the sudden onslaught of the storm would delay or hinder his return.
"Shall I escort you to dinner first, or would you rather wait for His Highness?" the nurse who regularly took care of me asked politely.
"I want to wait for him, but with the storm, I honestly don’t know when he’s going to be back. Maybe I should give him a call," I said thoughtfully.
I let out a sigh as I tried my best to ignore the sinking feeling in my chest when the prince did not answer my phone call. He must have been busy, or perhaps he was still caught up in work.
"I guess I should have dinner first; I don’t want my baby to go hungry," I said as I gently stroked my belly.
I took a few steps forward before coming to a stop when I felt an unfamiliar sensation like my baby was moving inside of me. Instinctively, I tried to stay as still as possible as I placed a hand against my round belly.
"What’s the matter?" the nurse asked quickly as she came to my side and took hold of one of my arms.
"I’m not sure. I think the baby moved inside of me?" I replied with a mix of excitement and fear.
"I’ll take you back to your room so that you can rest. As for dinner, I’ll get the maids to serve it in your room. The movement of the baby is actually a very good sign that the baby is healthy, and given how far along you are in your pregnancy, this is completely normal," the nurse said reassuringly before showing me a smile.
I nodded my head a few times, but her words couldn’t stop my fear.
It wasn’t a long walk to my bedroom, and I felt fine all the way there. The sudden movement of my baby happened and also disappeared in a flash.
"Oh..." I let out a small cry when I felt my baby moving again inside of me. Unlike the first time, this time the sensation was much clearer.
"Did the baby move again?" the nurse asked knowingly.
"Yes, I felt it just now," I replied in a soft whisper.
"We’re almost there, so just hang in there and take deep breaths," the nurse said as she continued to support me. I managed to take a few steps forward before I had to take another pause.
"Did the baby move again?" the nurse asked before showing a sweet smile.
I shook my head slowly from side to side as I felt my entire face go numb. The reason that I paused my step wasn’t because the baby had moved, but it was because I felt a clear gush of wetness leaking out from the entrance between my legs. There was absolutely no pain, and I felt completely normal, but I also knew that something abnormal had happened.
