Chapter 36: His Teasing

What am I supposed to do now? Did I say or do something wrong?

This is why women are so troublesome. They’re so hard to understand and figure out.

Despite my firm vow to myself, my body moved on its own. Again.

“If you don’t stop crying, I will kiss you...” I said in a low whisper.

That was the wolf in me speaking. Why else would I feel such a strong urge to kiss her pink and slightly swollen lips like this?

I could still feel the warmth of her damp tears on my fingertips. Her eyes started to swell red, and the same applied to her cute little lips. I liked it so much more when she smiled, although her smiles were always so reserved.

“Umm...wait...” she protested softly.

I found her confused expression while she tried to hold back her tears quite adorable. Just staring at her face puts me in a good mood without any good reason. Now, if only I could figure out or make her tell me why she is crying...

“This isn’t what our first kiss is supposed to be like...” I mumbled to myself.

I’ve dreamt countless times of how our first kiss would play out. Over and over again, I saw the same dream of me kissing her for the first time, and none of those dreams involved her having tear-stained cheeks like this. Her eyes stared back at me in confusion and slight shock, and once again, I felt a slight thrill at teasing her.

“I don’t...understand...” she whispered.

I didn’t blame her because I didn’t fully understand those dreams either. If I told her about it, she would just think that I was crazy, and perhaps that was precisely what I was—just crazy.

“Just stop crying. You told me that you’re no longer, so don’t cry like one. Hurry up and smile...I like you much better when you smile,” I told her as I reached out my hand and held her face between mine.

Everything about her was so small compared to me. Even her face seemed so tiny in between my hands. Her cheeks are so soft, and her skin so delicate. The way she blushes is also so adorable. She’s like a doll...to be played with...and then broken...

I moved my thumb to the corner of her lips before pulling them upwards, making her lips curve into a forced smile. She protested as he tried to push her face away from my hands. Of course, she couldn’t overpower me and the hold that I had on her.

I thanked the shot that I had injected myself with earlier for the fact that we could converse naturally like this for as long as we have without me jumping on her, pining her to the ground, and then having my way with her. Everything should be fine for a while. So far, the pills were losing their effects, just like the doctor had warned. That made me move on to taking injections instead after forcing the poor doctor to give it to me. Darius will completely flip out if he finds out, which he will do sooner rather than later. There wasn’t much I could hide from Darius and his genius brain and scrutinizing watchful eyes.

Everything would be fine until the night of the full moon arrives. Then, it would be every wolf for himself.

The wolf in me was intense. However, if that were what it meant to be an Ultimate Alpha, I would have preferred to be born a simple Beta or an average human. Life would have been much simpler for me and probably for her.

Why is he playing with me like this?!

“Stop!” I cried out quite loudly when I managed to pull his hands away from my face.

“You finally stopped crying,” the man said with complete satisfaction before he flashed me a playful smile.

I didn’t return his smile. My cheeks hurt, and I didn’t appreciate him playing with me like that. My mood turned sour momentarily before I realized he was right that I had stopped crying.

“I’m going back to work,” I muttered before standing up from my seat and heading for the door.

I didn’t have to turn to look behind me to figure out that he was following me. After heaving a loud sigh, I returned to my post as fast as possible. The man followed me back to the large tree. So many leaves had fallen while we were gone, meaning I had to sweep all the leaves all over again.

The man stood close to me, and I could feel his eyes on me. When I reached for the broom, it suddenly escaped my reach.

“What are you doing?” I snapped at him.

“I’ll help you,” he offered confidently.

“No, you don’t need to. Don’t you have your work to do?” I asked with apparent irritation in my voice.

I had no idea why I felt mad at him. Was it because he played with my cheeks? That or I was taking out my sadness and frustration regarding my unfortunate situation on him.

“Don’t be so mad. A scowl doesn’t look good on your pretty face...” he said teasingly as he held the broom away from my reach.

Why am I even trying?

It was clear from our height difference and how much his arms were longer than mine that I couldn’t steal the broom back from him. I lowered my arm as I ultimately gave up on this pointless game.

“You’re going to make me lose my job...” I muttered.

“I’m responsible for making you skip out on your work because I asked you to cook for me. Let’s think of this as me repaying you for your great cooking, ok?” he suggested before he smiled sweetly at me.
