The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 359: Active Pursuit
Chapter 359: Active Pursuit
The moonlight shining down seemed to pave the figure of the wolf in a golden light that looked surreal. I felt Prince Leonard stiffen at my side and realized that he must have seen the wolf as well. As if guided by instinct, my feet raced forward when the animal headed into the forest.
My sense of fear left me and in its place was a sense of desperation and curiosity. My instinct told me that if I followed the wolf, I would find all the answers that I had been looking for regarding my childhood and my parents.
Even though it was dark it felt like the path was clearly lit for me. My leg stopped shaking and I found myself running as fast as I could to make sure that I didn’t lose sight of the wolf. We entered the dark forest and were suddenly surrounded by tall and large trees. The wolf began running and I was worried that I would lose sight of it.
“Take my hand,” the prince said to me as he took my hand in his.
He began racing forward while guiding me behind him by the hand. I managed to move forward at a much faster pace now that the prince was guiding me. I was certain that with his enhanced senses, he could see much clearer than I could in the dark forest. Once again I appreciated the fact that the prince was there with me.
I had no idea how long we ran after the wolf because time didn’t seem to operate in the same way as it did in reality. Another sign that reminded me that I was living in a dream world was the fact that I wasn’t at all out of breath. It felt like I could keep on running forever without losing my stamina and running out of strength. Despite that fact I was glad that the wolf came to a stop, we were deep in the middle of the forest and I couldn’t tell where we were at all after having lost all sense of direction and distance.
“Where are you taking us?” I asked with the hope that the wolf could communicate back.
Silence was the only answer that I ever got and that made me realize that things were not going to be as easy as I wished that they would be. I should have known that the wolf wouldn’t be able to communicate with me using human language.
“Can you talk to the wolf?” Once again I found myself asking for the prince for his assistance.
“I can try. Where are you taking us?” The prince asked the wolf.
The wind seemed to pick up speed all around us but the wolf showed no sign of replying. I felt so lost and so desperate without knowing what we should be our next move.
“Did you see that, Mila?” The prince suddenly spoke up from next to me.
I was too stunned by what I was seeing to give him a reply in words. My eyes widen as I was stunned to see the sight in front of me.
“A girl...” I said in a breathless whisper as I struggled to process what was going on.
What?
What would have been impossible in the world of reality might be possible in the world of dreams and with that thought in mind, I came to the conclusion that the girl that I was seeing was actually a younger version of myself. There was no denying that the girl looked like me when I was younger.
“Mila...” The prince whispered my name and I could tell that he also shared my opinion.
The little girl stared directly at me and I found my heart leaping in my chest. I took a few steps forward with the hope to close the distance between us. I had so many things that I wanted to say to her and so many questions that I wanted to ask.
“Where are you going?” I yelled after the girl when she turned on her heels and began running deeper into the dark forest.
“Wait! Stop! Please stop!” I yelled as a continue chasing after her.
Although I knew that there was no way that a little girl like her could possibly out run me, it seemed like I was struggling to catch up with her. Then suddenly the little girl vanished into thin air as if she was nothing but a fragment of my own imagination. I was reminded that everything that I was seeing might have been the work of my creative imagination. Just when I thought that I had lost all clues and I was back at square one, I heard a voice in the close distance.
“We have to hurry! Quickly follow me. Come this way” a man’s voice called out in a rush.
“Did you hear that?” I turned to ask the prince.
He nodded his head in response to my question before taking my hand into his once again. Prince leonard led me in the direction of the voice. The deep man’s voice suddenly felt so familiar although I couldn’t quite place the identity of its owner. My chest clenched uncomfortably as my heart continued to race faster and faster.
When Prince Leonard suddenly came to a stop, I could see three people running through the forest. A man was leading the way followed by a woman who held the hand of the little girl that I had just seen shortly before.
“Wait! Please! Where are you going?” I called out as loudly as I could.
Despite my efforts, the three of them continued moving forward as if they couldn’t hear me.
“We have to catch up to them. We need to talk to them,” I told the prince as I began racing forward to follow the group of three.
I almost lost my balance and fell forward when I suddenly felt something pull on my ankles. Something so heavy felt like it had been tied to my legs and when I looked down, I found out that my ankles had been restrained.
“What on Earth is this? What is going on?” I asked as I stared at my ankles.
