The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 352: Making Up My Mind
Chapter 352: Making Up My Mind
Prince Leonard looked taken by surprise by my abrupt declaration. Even I was a little surprised by how unshaken my resolve was. It might have been better for me to think about it logically and take my time pondering this important decision; however, I felt like if I wasted so much time thinking about it, my cowardice would take over and I would end up running away from doing what I really wanted to do. The risks were frightening, and I believed the doctor wasn’t lying about them to freak me out, but my desire surely won over all my sense of fear.
Don’t they like to say that that there’s no pain if there’s no gain?
“As I just said, Mila, you don’t need to rush yourself into deciding this. Also, there is no rush even if you want to have my child and we decide to have one together,” the prince reminded me calmly.
“I’ve already made up my mind. Spending more time to think about it or rethinking it will not change my mind. I’m sorry for being so stubborn about this,” I replied with unwavering determination.
Prince Leonard stared directly into my eyes without saying a word and I found myself staring back without looking away. I didn’t quite know where I found that much courage to back up the decision that I had made but at that moment, I just felt so sure that I was doing the right thing. There was no proof and no rational reason, but my instincts felt so strong and that made me so sure that I must be doing the right thing.
“Mila, it will be risky for you...” the prince said after letting out a sigh.
“I understand that there are risks, but we won’t know until we give it a try, right?” I asked in return.
The prince looked very trouble and I knew that he was worried about what might happen to me if I got pregnant with his child. If the doctor was correct, the odds were against us at every single stage of the process.
“I’m fine with it, honestly...” I said after the prince started to look hesitant.
“You might be fine with it, but I might not be fine with letting you take on such risks. Have you ever considered that?” the prince asked as his eyes narrowed at me.
Once again, I could see the prince’s disturb expression from when he talked about Roxanna. It must have been a very painful and haunting experience for him to witness that happen to Roxanna without being able to do anything to help save her. Even now, he still felt extremely guilting and responsible for everything that she had to go through even if it wasn’t directly his fault.
“I don’t know why I feel this way and maybe I’m just being optimistic but, I’m sure that things will work out. Even if something were to happen, I’m sure that you’ll keep me safe,” I replied before smiling at him.
“I don’t want to say this because it might give you false hope, but you might be right...” he murmured, although he still looked very hesitant.
“What do you mean?” I asked as his words perked my interest.
To my surprise, instead of explaining to me what he meant, the prince replied to my question with a question of his own.
“Mila, do you know anything about your parents? I know you grew up in an orphanage but before that...” he asked as he stared at my face intently.
For a few seconds, all I could do was stare at the prince as I struggled to process the sudden change in topic. The prince’s question distracted me, and I had no idea why he was suddenly asking about my parents when he had shown no interest in them before, or anything related to my past for that matter. After recovering from my initial stunned stage, I managed to reply to him.
“I don’t remember anything about them. It’s sad but my memories of them feel very foggy. I don’t remember who they are, and I don’t even remember their faces. No matter how hard I try to recall those memories, I just don’t seem to remember my parents or anything before I arrived at the orphanage,” I confessed honestly.
The sickening pain in my chest reminded me of the sadness of this fact. I had always felt so lonely when I was younger, especially when I first arrived at the orphanage. It took a long time for me to make friends and to adapt to my new environment. Although most of the other girls were abandoned or had lost their parents, most of them remembered their parents. In a sense, I always envied them because they had someone that they could think of and yearn for. They had memories from their childhood to cherish while I didn’t have anything.
“You really don’t remember anything?” he asked with a concerned look on his face.
“I’m sorry, but I really don’t remember anything about my parents,” I replied regretfully.
“Are you sure about that?” the prince asked as if he couldn’t quite believe what I was telling him.
“Of course. I honestly don’t have any reasons to lie to you about this,” I replied.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to imply that you are lying or keeping things from me. It’s just...I think you have all your memories,” he said as he seemed to be thinking hard about something.
All of my memories?
“What do you mean by that?” I asked cluelessly.
“Do you remember what I told you about your memories?” he asked.
“Well, sort of...” I murmured as I wondered what he was trying to get at.
I did remember the prince telling me that he could see pretty much all of my memories, but I had no idea how that was related to anything that we’ve been discussing.
“I told you that I could see all of your memories. In fact, it feels like all your memories are neatly arranged in sequential order and all at my disposal...” the prince said before he grinned at me.
Does that mean...?
