The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 350: Body and Soul
Chapter 350: Body and Soul
“Are you serious about this?” he asked.
“Yes, I am...” I replied quite boldly.
I could tell that he was hesitating and that meant that if I showed any signs of hesitation, we probably couldn’t progress forward with this.
“Fine. I guess it doesn’t hurt to let you learn about what to expect and the risks involved,” he said before suddenly standing up.
I quickly stood up as well as I wondered what the prince had in mind. Prince Leonard took my hands into his and I realized to my shock that his hands were trembling slightly.
“I’ll be fine...” I said as I tried to reassure him.
“I’ll make sure that you will be,” he replied almost immediately.
I could tell that he was worried about me above everything else and that brought a warm feeling to my chest. Although I appreciated the fact that he was thinking about me, it also made me more determined to build a family with the prince.
“Come with me. There’s someone that you should meet,” the prince said as he guided me toward the door.
...
“A human’s body isn’t fully compatible with carrying an alpha-hybrid child. The reason for that mainly lies in the fetus’s inability to control and balance it’s human and wolf identities when it is in the womb,” the doctor explained with a stern expression on his face.
I blinked a couple of times as my mind struggled to process the true meaning and implications behind the doctor’s words. All I could understand was that it was going to be difficult to carry the prince’s child if I were to become pregnant, but the rest just sounded like gibberish to me.
After leaving Roxanna’s hospital room, Prince Leonard led me to an office where he managed to arrange for me to meet with a doctor. The doctor, who looked to be in his fifties, truly looked like he was an expert in this area. It seemed that the prince had chosen to let an expert explain things to me rather than taking things into his own hands.
“I guess this is difficult for you to understand given that you don’t know the context and background of everything. Let me try to explain this again in simpler terms...” the doctor said before pressing his lips together as if deep in thought.
My confusion must have been as clear as day on my face and I felt so uncomfortable sitting on the chair next to the prince that I couldn’t stop my hands from fidgeting.
“Let me start by explaining together what exactly we define as an Ultimate Alpha. Prince Leonard here is a prime example of one,” the doctor said as he gestured to the prince.
“Ok...” I murmured.
Prince Leonard suddenly looked more uncomfortable than before. I could tell that this wasn’t a topic that was pleasant for him. Before I could stop myself, I had already reached for my hand and held it in his.
“It’s fine...” I said before showing him a smile.
I was very surprised at how accepting I was of everything. Although I wasn’t sure what the doctor was going to tell me, I felt like I could take whatever it was that he had to enlighten me with.
“This might sound surprising to you or even unbelievable, but this is what we believe is true. An ultimate alpha is a human being that also embodies the soul of a wolf. You’ve already been taught about the genes of a wolf that is embedded as a hidden trait in some people already. This case is a more prominent and very rare case of that,” the doctor explained slowly.
All I could do was nod my head slightly when he came to a pause to signal that I understood what he was saying so far. I wasn’t exactly sure what it was like to have two souls inside one body or if something like that was even possible to begin with, but I was curious to hear more.
“Although ultimate alphas experience the effects of this differently, the key characteristics is that they can sense some kind of presence of the wolf inside them, they can transform parts if not their whole body into that of a wolf given various triggers, they exhibit superhuman abilities such as speed, agility, and stamina among other things,” the doctor continued to explain.
“I see...” I murmured.
What the doctor told me wasn’t surprising to me anymore after I had spent time with Prince Leonard. If anything, the prince fitted the description of an ultimate alpha perfectly so far. The doctor was right that the prince was a prime example of an ultimate alpha. He could transform his body and the trigger for that seemed to be intense emotions and sexual arousal. Prince Leonard also had superior hearing and stamina as well, as far as I was aware.
“Ultimate alphas are unique just like all humans are unique. Each one experiences and deals with their wolf genes or soul differently. For instance, the ability to transform between human and wolf materializes more completely for some and less in others. Some can transform their entire body into that of a large wolf while some can only materialize the wolf’s ear, fangs, or tail,” the doctor said as he kept his eyes on me.
“I’ve...observed some of the prince’s changes before,” I mumbled.
“I’m sure that you have. Whether it is correct or not, I’m am unsure, but the king’s view is that the more complete an ultimate alpha can transform into a wolf, the stronger he is. If you ask me, there is another trait that is as important if not more important than the completeness of the transformation,” he said before staring at me as if he wanted me to take a guess.
I had a few hunches on what that other trait might be, but I wasn’t in the mood to play a game of guessing with the doctor.
“What is that?” I asked directly while wondering how any of this had anything to do with the risks of carrying the prince’s child.
