Chapter 342: Mysterious Woman

The prince’s arms tightened around my body as I raised my arms to hug him back in return. I held him tightly in my arms without wanting to let go.

“If not for me, maybe you wouldn’t have to go through so many troubling times,” the prince said regretfully.

“Don’t blame yourself, Leo. I’m...very happy that we met,” I said against his chest.

“Thank you, Mila. I honestly should apologize for not wanting to let go of you. I want you to stay with me and because of that, I can’t have you returning here or going anywhere else,” the prince said as he hugged me tighter to him as if he truly didn’t want to let go of me.

It felt miraculous how all the tension in the air suddenly evaporated and in its place was a sense of calm that felt warm and very welcoming. We continued holding each other as we enjoyed the sensation of our bodies against each other. Silence settled around us, but it didn’t seem to matter because we had already reached a very satisfying level of understanding. I breathed in the prince’s scent as I told myself just how lucky I was to have him with me. Prince Leonard truly surprised me by saving all my friends and family members. It still felt quite unbelievable, and way better than any dream come true.

“Mila...” the prince called my name softly after a moment of silence.

“Yes?” I responded as I felt his arms loosen from around my body.

Knowing that he wanted to say something to me, I distanced myself away from him enough so that I could look him in the eyes. The prince seemed hesitant for a brief moment before he looked straight at me.

“What about you, Mila? Were you able to see some of my memories as well?” he asked straightforwardly.

“Well, to be honest, I could see something while we were...” I said before trailing off.

I almost told him that I saw his memories while we were mating. The prince chuckled a little at my reaction and I knew immediately that he knew what it was that I was about to say. It might have happened the same way for him as well. He might have been able to peek inside my head to see my memories while our bodies were connected.

“I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you this before. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what it was that I was seeing, and I thought that it was just my imagination. More like, a dream that I was having even though I was still awake. I’m sorry that I’m not making sense. It’s very hard for me to explain,” I said as I tried to pick out the right words.

“You’re making enough sense, don’t worry. Tell me, Mila, what is it that you saw?” he asked as he stared directly at me.

For a moment, he made me feel guilty for having seen what I had seen. Unlike how he saw my greatest wish, I saw a scene of a woman calling out his name instead. I lowered my gaze when I thought of the possibility that maybe that woman that I saw might have been his ultimate wish or something that he truly yearned for. Pain shot through my chest, and I had to take a deep breath to calm myself while I tried to tell myself that it was just my own imagination running wild. My gaze returned to the prince’s face as I wondered if he would tell me the truth if I asked him about her.

“I...I only saw one very short scene. I saw a woman and she was calling your name...” I said before pausing to gather my words and gauge the prince’s reaction.

Instead of acting shocked or worried, the prince seemed genuinely interested in what I was telling him. I wasn’t sure what to make of his reaction and for a moment I didn’t know how to proceed with telling him what I saw.

“What else? What else did you see?” he asked.

“Well, she was very beautiful, and she was wearing a maid uniform. Her eyes lit up and she looked very excited when she saw you. Then she called out your name cheerfully. She really looked happy to see you...” I said while recalling what I saw.

“Is there anything else?” He asked for even more details.

Sometimes, I wished that there was something more. Although I saw that scene more than once, the scene never stretched on to show me what happened after she called his name. I didn’t know how the prince responded or what the two of them did after they met. No clues were given as to who she was except for the maid uniform that she had on, and I wasn’t sure what kind of relationship she had with Prince Leonard. Despite that, I could sense that they must have been close.

“No. That was all I saw. It was a very short scene. Apart from that, I didn’t see anything else. Unlike what you told me, I didn’t have free access to your memories,” I told him truthfully.

“I see...” he murmured as he seemed to ponder something.

I wanted so badly for him to come out and tell me who she was and what it was that I actually saw. I desperately wanted him to tell me to save me the pain of asking. More importantly, I wanted him to tell me because he wanted to. I hoped that he would give me an explanation to ease all the uneasy feelings that made my chest ache.

“I think I know who you saw. Don’t make that face, it’s not what you think...” he said before showing me a teasing smile.

Not what I think?

“I...” I mumbled before deciding that it was better to keep silent rather than trying to correct his misunderstanding.

I felt even more uneasy when I realized that the prince wasn’t exactly misunderstanding things. He must have caught on to my suspicion. My heart raced in my chest when I started feeling hopeful that this was nothing but a misunderstanding and that the woman wasn’t someone important to him.
