The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid
Chapter 330: Must Have Been for Me

Chapter 330: Must Have Been for Me

I wasn’t even sure if I was asking her or if I just needed to voice my questions out loud before it drove me insane. Sally didn’t reply to me, but she nodded her head before two drops of tears rolled down each side of her cheek. I gasped in shock when I finally got confirmation from her that she was indeed Sally, one of the girls from the orphanage where I had grown up. The reality of the situation finally sank in.

When I found out that I had been sold, I suspected Monica and our benefactor back at the orphanage of being responsible, but I did hold out some hope that something so tragic may not befall the other girls still living at the orphanage. The fact that Sally was here told me just how wrong I had been to hold out hope. Frankly, I must have been fooling myself all this time to make reality less harsh and more bearable. Deep down, I knew that I wasn’t the only one. All those girls that left for work before me and all those that were still too young to leave, one day they too would face a fate just like this.

“How can something like this happen to us?” I wailed as I started to openly cry.

Sally started wailing like a child and I quickly wrapped my arms around her frail body and pulled her closer into my embrace. Her body shook from the impact of her sobs and her breathing was rough. I had always wished that somehow, I would be reunited with the girls at the orphanage. As time went by, I realized that that dream was a very unrealistic one and that was probably why I had classified it as nothing more than a wistful dream.

Hugging Sally tightly while we both cried and comforted each other at the same time felt extremely bittersweet. I never thought that I would see her again; however, if I knew that we would have to be reunited under these circumstances, I couldn’t help but think that it may have been better for us not to meet ever again so that she wouldn’t have to go through what I had been through.

“Help her get dressed and get ready. We’re leaving this place,” the prince spoke up from behind me.

I loosened my arms from around Sally’s body as I turned around to face the prince. By that time two more men were in the room and the prince was giving them instructions. That was when I realized that it was for the best. The place wasn’t a great place to be, and it would be better for all of us if we left as soon as possible. I raised my hand and wiped my tears away before wiping the tears from Sally’s face as well. The most important thing right now wasn’t learning more about what was happening at the orphanage but to get Sally out of there.

“We need to get out of here. Don’t worry, I’m here for you. You’ll be safe, Sally...” I told her reassuringly as I stroked her hair.

The way her lower lips quivered told me that my words alone were not enough to reassure her or make her feel safe. I needed to take her somewhere safe as soon as possible before both of us would lose it completely.

“Mila, move over here,” the prince told me flatly.

“Ok...” I mumbled as I hesitantly stood up and walked over to his side.

The two men approached the girl and began unlocking the shackles around her wrists and ankles. The clinking sound of the heavy chains falling to the floor as she was set free broke my heart into tiny bits. I couldn’t even bear to look as they went about the process. Prince Leonard must have realized the way that I was looking away because he placed an arm around my shoulder and pulled me slightly against his side.

“We should leave soon. Let’s take Sally with us,” he told me calmly.

“Thank you...” I whispered softly.

...

When we arrived back at the hotel, a couple of maids were there to lead Sally to her room and help her clean up. Although I felt very hesitant to leave Sally alone, I knew better than to throw up a fuss. Prince Leonard instructed everyone on what to do and I figured that it was best to let the prince run the show as always. On top of that, there were so many things that I needed to ask him and talk to him about.

“Prince Leonard...” I called his name softly.

“What is it?” he asked while sounding a little tired.

Now that we were back at the hotel, we could finally take our masks off. I could see his face again but that didn’t mean that I could read his expression to figure out what he was thinking.

“Can we talk for a moment?” I inquired.

“Of course. We have all night,” he replied casually.

After watching the maids lead Sally away, I followed the prince back to our room. The sofa should have felt comfortable, but I found myself shifting uneasily on it as I struggled to find the right words to start a conversation with Prince Leonard. He sat opposite me on another sofa as he patiently waited to hear me out.

“Umm...why did you buy Sally?” I asked quite bluntly.

“Because if I hadn’t, someone else would have. Would you rather she be sold to someone else?” he asked in return.

“No, that isn’t what I meant...” I replied before letting out a sigh.

Since finding out that the girl that he had purchased was Sally, I instinctively understood why the prince had gone out of his way to do something like that. Although the thought was quite conceited, I knew that he must have done it for me. I was just so surprised that he knew in advance that she was going to be put on auction which also made me wonder about what else he knew.
