Chapter 328: Buying Her

The girl was still very young. I wasn’t sure just how young she was, but she seemed to be in her early teens. Although I couldn’t see her face clearly from where I was sitting, I could sense her fear and confusion as if they were my own. My heart raced fast in my chest as a throbbing pain stung my temples. It didn’t matter how many times I blinked my eyes, the scene unfolding in front of me did not disappear. Unfortunately, it was real and not just a part of my haunting nightmares.

“Prince...Leonard...” I whispered in shock as I failed to wrap my head around what was happening.

“Thank you, Sir! Do I see another bid that way?” the host asked while continuing to facilitate the bidding process.

Finally, I managed to tear my eyes from the poor girl locked up and chained inside her cage. Although I knew that no one should be sold off that way regardless of their age, it still felt extra bitter to see someone so young going through what I had been through. Many questions ran through my mind but the biggest question that I wanted answers to was why Prince Leonard had brought me with him and if he knew that something like this was going to take place?

“Another bid that way! Thank you very much!” the host’s voice rang out loud and clear.

The bidding was still well underway with the girl receiving so much attention from the audience. The host did mention that she was the first ‘item’ for this segment so that probably meant that there were other girls and women that were going to be auctioned off. The thought of it made me feel nauseous. I tugged on the prince’s sleeve slightly to get his attention. I couldn’t take it anymore and needed to tell him that I wanted to leave.

When I turned to face him, I was faced with another shock that made me forget to breath entirely at that moment. Prince Leonard held up his hand to signal his bid for the girl. I gasped as I stared at the prince before my head snapped to stare at the poor girl who was still locked up in her cage on the stage.

What is happening?

Why is the prince bidding on her?

Does he...want to buy her?

Why?

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, and I didn’t understand any of it. Apparently, the prince’s bid wasn’t high enough to secure him the girl. That resulted in me seeing the prince raise his hand again to place another bid for the girl. His attention was focused on the bidding process while I was too shocked to do or say anything. Something told me that this was what we were really here for and that none of this was a coincidence. It was still difficult for me to believe that we flew to this country to attend an auction where the prince wanted to purchase a young virgin girl.

A bitter taste filled my mouth, and I thought that I was on the verge of throwing up for real. I wondered how the girl ended up in the situation that she was in and then realized that she must have been captured or fooled into it.

“Prince Leonard...” I called his name quite loudly to get his attention after trying to suppress my shock.

“What is it, Mila? As you can see, I’m a little busy right now,” he replied without looking my way.

His hand rose up into the air again as he placed another bid on the poor girl. I wanted to yell at him to stop as my frustration started to boil over. I felt pain in the palms of my hands and realized that I was clenching my hands into very tight fists as I started biting down on my lower lip.

“Why? Why are you bidding on the girl?” I asked before I could stop myself.

The prince did not answer me immediately as his attention was focused on the ongoing auction. He raised his hand once again while I wondered just how long this would last for. The prince let out a sigh as if he was feeling bored before he turned to face me.

“Because I want to win her,” the prince replied simply.

What?!

“No...please...stop this...” I begged as I felt tears stinging the back of my eyes.

I was too shocked to even cry when it all started to unfold right in front of me. However, now that the shock had sunk in, I felt so much sadness and fear that it tore into my heart. I had thought that I could escape from this nightmare but instead, I was relieving it by seeing a young girl going through what I had gone through.

“I can’t stop, Mila...” the prince replied with an edge of warning in his tone.

I stared at the prince before I turned to stare at the girl in the cage. I didn’t understand what the prince was doing. He was the one who told me that he agreed that people should not be bought or sold when we first met, so why was he doing this?

What does he mean when he says that he can’t stop?

“Please, you have to stop this. Please don’t buy her,” I pleaded as I grabbed onto the prince’s arm desperately.

Buying people and selling them was just so wrong. I had no idea what would happen to the girl when the auction came to an end, and I didn’t even want to start imagining it. It felt like her life was over and I didn’t dare to imagine the future that she would have. The only thing that I thought that I could do to improve the situation was to make sure that the prince didn’t get involved in her trade. I would be fooling myself if I thought that I could save everyone; however, I thought that I had to do something to convince the prince who was sitting right next to me.

“Leo...please...please don’t do this...” I begged as I felt tears flowing from my eyes.
