The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid
Chapter 322: Better for Us

Chapter 322: Better for Us

My heart clenched a little in my chest before I felt a wave of warmth washing over me.

“Umm...you should get some rest...” I suggested as I started to feel slightly shy.

“I’m very sorry, Mila. I shouldn’t have left you alone like that. I didn’t think that the talk would take so long...” Prince Leonard suddenly apologized.

I turned to him with what must have been a very blank look on my face because I didn’t expect an apology from him. That was also simply because I didn’t feel like there was anything that he needed to apologize for. In fact, I felt like I owed him such a big favor after all that he had said in my defense.

“There’s no need for you to apologize for anything. I’m fine...” I quickly reassured him.

“It’s my fault. I misjudged the situation and you had to pay the price for it,” he replied firmly.

I had no idea what he was talking about or why it seemed to be such a big deal for him. It was true that many people in the dining room made me uncomfortable and Lucinda did put me on the spot but in the end nothing really happened.

“Not at all. It isn’t your fault. Plus, you were the one who came back just in time to save me,” I pointed out before smiling at him.

I didn’t know how I would’ve handled that situation by myself had the prince not returned right at the moment that he did to save me. It was because of my carelessness and my lack of experience that got me into that mess. I wasn’t at all used to attending events like that with those kinds of people. Even though I had taken lessons about it that were supposed to help guide me, I found that the situation in real life could be very different, and the people could be more hostile and aggressive as well. My shoulders drooped when I reminded myself that that wasn’t a valid reason for me to get everything wrong.

“I’ll try my best to get used to it. I’ll try my best to get better at...all this...” I promised while sounding a little desperate.

“Thanks, Mila, but there’s no need for you to go that far,” he replied with a smile.

I couldn’t stop staring at his calm blue eyes because at that moment, the look that he had in his eyes as he stared at my face felt so tender and gentle. His large hand reached out toward my head before it landed on the top of my head. The slight pressure and warmth of his manly hand made me feel a funny sensation in my tummy which only intensified when he began stroking my hair.

...

When I woke up the next morning, I was all alone on the bed. A heavy feeling hung over me and my head throbbed a little. The incident from dinner absolutely killed the mood and I was also too tired to push any of the agendas that I had forward. I couldn’t push the prince to start a conversation with me on anything that I wanted to ask him about because it just didn’t feel like the right time. In the end, I wasn’t any closer to meeting any of the objectives that I had set before coming on this trip with him. On top of that, we also slept in different rooms.

Just when I thought that everything seemed to be slowly falling apart around me, there was a knock on my door. The soft and hesitant knock told me that it wasn’t Prince Leonard.

“Yes? Who is it?” I asked cautiously.

“Prince Leonard wanted me to inform you that he is waiting for you in the dining room for breakfast,” a woman replied through the door.

She must have been one of the staff that came along with us. I gasped when I realized that I may have woken up late. Whirling around, I quickly looked at the clock on the wall before rummaging through one of my bags where I thought I had put the printed itinerary of the trip. Thankfully, I still had some time before we had to leave for our first destination.

“Did you sleep well?” Prince Leonard asked when he laid eyes on me.

I sat opposite him at the large dining table where breakfast was laid out for us. It was just the two of us, but I didn’t feel at all lonely eating alone with him in that oversized dining room.

“Yes...” I replied in short.

I was thankful enough that I had survived the first day of the trip and that nothing that had happened had popped up to disturb my peaceful sleep in the form of nasty dreams.

“Good. I’m glad to hear it,” he replied with a smile.

“Did you sleep well?” I asked in return.

“Decently well. You should try to eat because you’ll need the strength for later,” he replied casually.

I stuffed some food into my mouth as I focused on eating so that we wouldn’t be late. Honestly, I wasn’t feeling that hungry but with the many things that we had planned today, I knew that the prince wasn’t wrong that I might be needing the energy later on.

“You don’t need to eat so fast. We’re not in a rush or anything,” he said after watching me eat for a moment.

We’re not in a rush?

“But...don’t we need to leave in less than around ten minutes?” I asked before placing the rim of my water glass against my lips.

“Not anymore...” he replied.

“Did you change the time because you thought that I would be late? There’s no need to, I think we can still make it if we rush a little,” I said while thinking that I must have been such a bother to the prince and everyone.

I was certain that many people put in their time and hard work into arranging the trip for the prince and changing it would be such a shame. Most of all, I didn’t want to be the reason for such a change that would inconvenience so many people.
