The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid
Chapter 320: About Our Relationship

Chapter 320: About Our Relationship

The luxurious room did not surprise me and neither did the spectacular food options that were present. Thankfully, the food wasn’t much different to the food served in the palace because that meant that I knew quite well what was being served.

At first everything seemed normal as I took my seat next to the prince at the dining table. Apart from us, many government officials that had joined us on the trip were also present at the dining table along with a handful of people that represented the host country. Frankly, I did not recognize most of the people and had no idea what their roles were. Regardless of not knowing precisely who they were, I could feel their eyes on me.

It did cross my mind that they were staring at Prince Leonard who was seated next to me; however, as time went on, I was certain that I had become the center of their attention. The way they looked at me made me feel uneasy. Suddenly a man dressed in a formal suit approached us.

“Your Highness, if I may have a word...” the man said to the prince before bowing politely.

I did not recognize who he was, but I knew that he was one of the officials that had traveled on this trip with us. The prince glanced over at me before he smiled and patted the back of my hand. I returned his smile to tell him that I was fine if he had to leave for a moment. Our silent exchange was quickly over, and I watched as Prince Leonard got up from his seat before following the man out of the dining room.

Without a doubt the man had something important to discuss with the prince. Although I signaled to the prince that I would be fine that was quite far from the truth. Now that the prince was no longer by my side, it felt like I had lost a valuable shield. Their stares felt more direct and intimidating. I tried my best to ignore them as I tried to focus on the food on my plate.

“Lady Mila...”

I was forced to look up when I heard a woman calling my name softly close to my side. A woman who didn’t appear to be much older than I was smiled at me as she stood close to my seat. I didn’t recognize who she was, and I believed that I may have never met her before.

“Hello...” I replied before showing her a smile that I hoped looked passable.

At her sudden appearance, the person seated next to me quickly offered her his seat with the excuse that he needed to visit the toilet. I watched as she graciously accepted his offer before seating herself down in the seat next to mine.

“It’s an honor to meet you. I’m Lucinda and I work for the royal family here,” she introduced herself smoothly.

“I’m Mila...” I introduced myself in short although she already knew my name.

Although she appeared very polite and friendly, I wondered what she wanted from me. She began asking me a few questions about what I thought of the visit so far. From the way that she was talking, I could tell that she was very proud of her country.

“I think that many things that we saw today were very interesting and innovative,” I replied truthfully without going into the details.

“Really? I’m sure many of our technologies can be used to benefit your country as well,” she said before beaming me a smile.

After a few more questions that didn’t delve any deeper, I realized that she was just making small talk with me. Although I didn’t mind it, I felt like she wasn’t quite interested in what she was asking me and that could only mean that she was about to get to what she was truly interested in. I could still feel some people staring my way and I didn’t miss the fact that the conversation in the dining room seemed to have died down around me.

“Lady Mila,” Lucinda called my name, and my gut told me that she was about to ask me what she truly wanted to know.

“Yes?” I asked while wondering when Prince Leonard would return.

“What is your relationship with Prince Leonard?” she asked as she stared directly at my face.

Somehow, I had already sensed that she would ask me something about Prince Leonard; however, I didn’t quite expect that she would ask about my relationship with the prince. Her directness also surprised me, and I wondered if this was how things were usually done in her country. I glanced toward the door of the dining room to find that the prince wasn’t going to come in and save me any time soon. The silence in the room also told me that there were other people beside Lucinda that were awaiting my reply to her question.

What is my relationship with the prince?

Honestly, I thought that that was a very fair and good question. If I were them, I would wonder about the same thing. However, I probably wouldn’t ask so outright like this. If I were to be completely honest with them, I wouldn’t be quite sure how to define the relationship that I shared with Prince Leonard. I wondered if the Sacred Chambers also existed in this country or if the royal family also had wolf blood running in their veins.

Most probably...not...

If that was the case, then in more normal human terms, I guess that I was one of the prince’s lovers. Nothing more and nothing less. I bit down on my lower lip when I realized that even if that was the best answer that I could come up with, it wasn’t an answer that I wanted to say out loud to anyone. I could feel everyone staring at me at that point and it was clear that no one was going to come and save me from the sticky situation that I had found myself in. I should have asked the prince how to respond to a question like this just to make sure that I wouldn’t get it wrong.
