The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 309: Whom to Ask
Chapter 309: Whom to Ask
“Well, he’s been spending many of his nights with the prime minister’s daughter so we can all expect great things, right?” the prince asked.
“Florian would make a bad king and you know it,” the duchess spat before making a disgusted face.
“Why are you so against your son becoming the next king? I really can’t understand what goes through your mind at all,” the prince said before he shook his head from side to side.
“Doesn’t their relationship bother you?” the duchess asked to suddenly change the direction of the conversation.
“You mean Florian and Regina?” the prince asked with a blank face.
“Who else?” she replied sarcastically.
“Why would it bother me? One of my closest friends from childhood is now in a relationship with my younger brother, and she might end up as the next queen. Things couldn’t have turned out any better,” the prince replied with a satisfied smile.
“You’re really such a heartless man. I don’t know why people can’t see you for who you really are...” the duchess said and for a moment she looked quite impressed.
“I can say the same thing about you,” Prince Leonard replied without missing a heartbeat.
At his words, the duchess just smiled before turning away to take her leave.
...
Despite the initial joy of getting to see Prince Leonard, seeing him and mating with him left me feeling more confused than ever before. It felt like a void had formed in the middle of my chest and I didn’t know how to get rid of it. Luckily for me, at least I had a clue as to what was making me feel that way. Although I didn’t like it that the Duchess’s words were getting to me, there was no way that I could stop the way that I was feeling and the direction that my thoughts had taken.
Had Prince Leonard been spending time with another woman while he wasn’t spending time with me?
Does the woman that I saw in my mind exist or was she just a figure in my own imagination?
Those dark thoughts and questions made me extremely restless. After a night of rolling around from side to side on my bed without getting any kind of decent sleep, morning arrived and soon it was time for my dance lesson with the Duchess. By then, I had already decided that I needed to learn something from her before I start to seriously losing my mind.
My two friends turned up to greet me and help me prepare for my upcoming lesson; however, I wasn’t in the mood to talk to them. Their worry-free attitude was too much of a contrast to my muddled up feelings and I couldn’t help but feel envious of how simple and carefree their life was. It was hard for me to believe that up until not so long ago, I had been sharing their way of life. There were times when I wished that I could return to my simple life working as one of the palace maids, but I had to admit that those thoughts had become much rarer ever since my relationship with Prince Leonard had developed and progressed.
“Thank you, I’ll head to my lesson now,” I informed Jessie with a smile before turning to smile at Salena.
They probably got the silent message that I didn’t want them to accompany me because none of them made the offer like they usually did. With a few parting words, I quickly made my way out of my room to head to the dance studio where I usually had my dance lessons with the Duchess. Each step that took me closer to my destination meant that I had less time to make up my mind on what I wanted to do and how to go about it.
I knew very well that it was going to be very challenging for me to bring up the topics related to Prince Leonard to discuss with the Duchess. However, after spending almost a full night thinking about it, I was forced to admit that I didn’t know anyone who could help me as well as she probably could. Although I didn’t know how much I could trust her, it wasn’t like I had any other options left at my disposal. I only had two dear friends in the palace, but they were not at all accustomed to the affair of the royals living here or the way of dealing with the wolf princes.
“You’re here quite early today,” the duchess greeted me with a smile.
“Not as early as you are...” I replied softly.
I hadn’t expected that the duchess would arrive at the dance studio before me given that I did turn up earlier than the scheduled time. Just like always the duchess was the definition of flawless beauty and the smile that she showed me felt like the sweetest. I told myself not to get sucked in by her personality or her looks. By then, I had already realized that the duchess had a talent for making me lower my guard whenever I was around her. Her smile was really disarming, and her sweet voice tempted me to do whatever she wanted me to do.
“Shall we get started? Let’s do some warmup before jumping into your dance routines,” the duchess suggested brightly.
“Yes, sure. Let’s do that,” I replied while trying to sound enthusiastic.
I didn’t want to sound so full of myself but by that time I had most, if not all, of the dance moves down. That made the lesson much easier for me and allowed time for me to prepare myself mentally for what was to come. Despite what had happened, I didn’t feel any awkwardness and we were able to go about our lesson normally. The duchess did not bring up the little acting scene that we jointly performed for Prince Leonard, and she did not ask how things turned out after we left the dance studio and that told me that she probably already knew.
“Are you tired? Should we take a break?” she asked as we were approaching the end of our lesson.
It was the opportunity that I had been waiting for.
