The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 307: Mothers and Sons
Chapter 307: Mothers and Sons
His body heat and familiar rosy scent enveloped me, but I didn’t feel a raging need for him and that must have been thanks to the passionate session that we had just shared.
I learnt to enjoy the silence and peace as we cuddled together on the bed. The sound of his regular beating heart felt like the only thing that I needed to hear at that moment. It felt right to celebrate some peace and quiet; however, there were so many unasked questions raging in my mind. With the prince being away for a week, my curiosity had turned into doubts and my doubts quickly evolved into insecurities. While mating with the prince, I was too consumed in the heat of the moment to think or worry about anything but now that I had more than a moment to think, I realized that I had feared that I would see a mirage in my mind just like the last time when I saw her.
That woman...
Just who is she and what is her relationship with the prince?
Although I wasn’t sure why I didn’t see her or anything else resembling what I saw the last time that I mated with the prince this time, I was thankful for it. With that being said, I still wondered about that woman whom I saw so vividly. Even though I knew that it may be something that I shouldn’t know or something that had nothing to do with me, I couldn’t deny that I was itching to know the identity of that woman and her relationship with Prince Leonard.
She was dressed in a maid uniform but the way she called his nickname so familiarly told me that their relationship extended beyond that of a maid and her master. The look in her widened eyes that seemed filled with excitement when she spotted the prince made my chest tighten uncomfortably.
What was it that I saw exactly and why did I see it?
These endless questions filled my mind and ran around in circles as if they were chasing their own tails. Of course, all these unasked questions did not bring me to any answers. The only way that I was going to get any answers to my questions was if I could bring myself to ask the man on the bed right next to me. My body stiffened in nervousness just at the thought.
How am I supposed to even bring this up to the prince?
“Do you seriously intend to continue your lessons with Duchess Flavia?” Prince Leonard asked softly.
“Yes, if you would please allow it...” I replied while mindful that he wasn’t a big fan of the idea.
“I guess since we already made an agreement, I’ll have to stick to that,” he replied gruffly.
“Thank you so much. I have to say that I was very surprised when I found out that she’s Prince Florian’s mother,” I said as I tried to steer to conversation in a more relaxing direction.
“I’m surprised that you didn’t figure it out right away. They kind of look alike and Florian undoubtedly inherited his looks from his mother,” the prince replied casually.
“Looking back on it, I should have. When she came into the dance studio, Madame Sand started panicking and I guess I couldn’t focus on anything at all,” I confessed.
“Well, pay her no mind. Just focus on your lessons and please be careful,” the prince warned me again.
“I will,” I promised.
“Florian’s relationship with his mother is a little complicated to say the least. As for you, you should pay that issue no mind at all,” the prince recommended with a slightly stern look in his eyes.
“I’ll try my best to not pay attention when she talks about it,” I replied.
“Oh, so she’s already been telling you these things?” he asked with raised brows.
“Well...kind of...” I replied hesitantly.
“I guess now you’ve met quite a few of our family members. You’ve met Darius’s mother and also Florian’s” the prince said with slightly grim look on his face.
I could tell that the prince didn’t think that it was a great thing that I had met members of his family. Instead of replying to him, I decided to smile while maintaining my silence. At the back of my mind, I couldn’t help but wonder why I haven’t met Prince Leonard’s mother. After all, if I understood correctly, she’s supposed to be the queen.
“What are you wondering about right now?” the prince asked followed by a small chuckle.
“How did you...?” I began asking but I had to stop myself as the prince started to laugh louder than before.
“I told you this before. I can read you pretty much like an open book. I can tell just by looking at your face that you’re wondering about something quite intensely,” he said observantly.
“Well...” I murmured because I couldn’t quite deny that he was right.
“So, tell me. Just what are you wondering about?” he asked.
“I...I was wondering about...your mother...” I replied softly and hesitantly as I debated with myself about whether or not it was a good idea to ask the prince about her.
The relationship between the princes and their mothers seemed to be complicated at best and I wasn’t sure it was my place to inquire about it. This was also right after Prince Leonard had told me to pay no mind to the relationship between Prince Florian and his mother.
“My mother? There’s nothing much for you to wonder about there. She died a long time ago,” the prince replied casually like it was nothing to him at all.
She...passed away?
“Oh...I’m sorry...” I murmured as a stinging pain shot through my chest.
I should have known that something like this might be possible and yet I was so insensitive about asking the prince about it.
“Why are you apologizing? It’s not like you were the one who killed her,” he replied with a smile.
Although his lips were smiling, it felt like his blue eyes had completely frozen over. Immediately, I regretted asking the prince about his mother.
