The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid
Chapter 290: Moths to a Flame

Chapter 290: Moths to a Flame

Although I didn’t quite understand the meaning of her words, once again I couldn’t see the downside to the deal that she was offering. She could tell me the information that I so badly wanted to know and in exchange, I’ll follow her instructions. When the time came for me to follow her instructions, I could refuse if it went against my will.

“Let me ask you again, Mila. Do we have a deal?” she asked again.

“Yes...we do...” I replied after a brief moment of thought.

“You’re a very smart girl. I wouldn’t mind helping you...” she said before she smiled brightly.

It felt like flowers would bloom in the presence of her bright smile and the warmth of her voice as she giggled.

“Please tell me what Prince Leonard has been up to...” I demanded immediately.

I couldn’t help but feel impatient. It was true that I wanted desperately to see him; however, I was also worried about him. It wasn’t like him not to turn up to our lessons without reaching out to me. Then there was the matter of that woman that I saw while I was mating with him on the night of the full moon. In an unexplainable way, my gut told me that the fact that the prince had no come to see me might be related to the woman that I saw in my mind.

“You’re really rushing me. Well, alright. Since we already made the deal, I guess I should keep my end of the bargain and let you know,” she said before pausing.

“Please...” I urged her to go on because I couldn’t wait any longer.

“Don’t look so worried. Prince Leonard is fine. It’s not like the king or anyone in the palace would let anything happen to him that easily anyways,” she replied reassuringly.

“I see. That’s good then...” I said as relief flooded my chest.

“He’s physically fine if that’s what you’re worried about. He’s not sick or anything. Well, at least not physically...” the duchess said before ending in a mutter.

“What is that supposed to mean?” I asked immediately without being able to stop myself.

“Pretty much as I’ve told you. He’s not sick physically but I guess he might be kind of stressed out? For the past few days, I’ve heard from a confirmed source that he’s been visiting one of the laboratories that is also used as a hospital,” she said before shrugging her shoulders.

“A hospital? But I thought you just told me that he wasn’t ill...” I asked with evident worry.

“He’s not sick as far as my sources tell me. Also, he’s been in and out of the laboratory almost everyday but hasn’t stayed the night. So, he wasn’t hospitalized. Anyways, all the princes usually go to another hospital and not the one where he’s been visiting,” she said before letting out a small sigh.

“If he’s not sick then why is he visiting that hospital or laboratory?” I asked curiously.

“Exactly. Isn’t that something that would make any one curious about?” she asked to show her agreement.

“So...you’re not sure why he’s been going to that place?” I asked.

“You’re right. I don’t know why he’d been visiting that place. Whatever the reason, it must be very important right? He even left you alone for all these past days and nights...” she said before showing me a very sympathetic look.

Something important enough that would occupy his time so that the prince didn’t have any time to visit me nor teach me my lessons. I didn’t dare think that I should be the most important thing to him, and I knew well that the prince must be a very busy person; however, I couldn’t help but think that the prince might have been actively trying to avoid me. If he truly wanted to, I was certain that he could have spared a moment to come and see me or give me a call.

“I see. Thank you for letting me know. It’s good enough for me to know that he’s fine,” I replied before I tried my best to smile.

“There’s a very easy way for you to find out why he’d been visiting that place,” the duchess said with sparkling eyes.

“An easy way?” I asked.

Even if I knew that she was intentionally drawing me in, I couldn’t resist the temptation. If there was a way that I could learn more about Prince Leonard and if I could see him again, then I would be interested in knowing about it. Her suggestive words drew me in like a foolish moth toward a hot burning flame. The funny thing was that I felt desperate enough to approach that burning flame without much hesitation at all.

“Yes. It’s so easy that it will actually surprise you and it will make you wonder why you didn’t think of something so simple earlier,” she said confidently.

“Please tell me. How can I find out more about the prince?” I inquired.

“Simple. If you want to know, then all you have to do is ask the prince yourself,” she declared.

“Ask the prince?” I muttered in confusion.

She wasn’t wrong about it being the most obvious way; however, she was wrong about it being easy and simple. Asking the prince was one thing but how was I supposed to do that when he wouldn’t even come to see me.

Should I just give him a call? Is that it?

“This is where the second part of our deal comes in,” she said excitedly.

Suddenly, I started to have a very bad feeling about what was going to happen. The way that the duchess looked at me while her lips curved into a sweet smile made me feel like she was about to request me to do something absolutely crazy.

“Umm...” I murmured hesitantly while I tried to come up with a convincing protest.

“Don’t worry. All you have to do is follow my instructions. So, tell me, do you want to have a fever or a sprained ankle?” she asked before she let out a giggle.
