The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 121: Sacred Chambers
Chapter 121: Sacred Chambers
Although she was very cold and strict toward me when we first met, I guess I must have developed a liking to her after spending time with her here. It was also true that she helped me out many times while providing me with guidance. Her words reminded me that after moving out from the maid’s quarters, I would no longer be in her care.
“Thank you,” I thanked her wholeheartedly.
The white marble walls with decorative carvings of various flowers that surrounded the area housing the Sacred Chambers was already an impressively beautiful sight to behold. The car passed the entrance of the wall and proceeded inside. Lush greenery along with colorful flowers filled the gardens on both sides of the road. I started to understand why this place was called a paradise because even the garden made it seem that way and we haven’t even reached the main building yet.
“Here we are. There is only one large building in the Sacred Chambers and all the honorable maidens live here. All except for one...” Madame Cassandra said before she smiled my way.
That one lady that she was referring to must be Lady Regina whom I used to serve when I was still a maid which wasn’t so long ago at all. It must have been because of her social status as the prime minister’s daughter that Lady Regina received such special treatment. That and maybe the fact that she seemed to be close to Prince Leonard.
“Follow me this way. Hurry up a little...” Madame Cassandra turned to tell me.
“Yes...” I murmured as I shifted my thoughts back to focus on the present.
The madame led me to the front entrance of the large white marble building. The entrance was even more elaborately decorated than the outer walls that I had seen before. Marble carvings featuring many mythical creatures and angels surrounded the large and high double door of the entrance. The door slowly opened as if someone inside was expecting our arrival.
I found myself holding my breath and pressing my lips into a thin line as I watched the door slowly open. Little by little, I started to see what lay beyond the door and inside the building. To my surprise, instead of seeing a luxurious hall or living room behind the door, I saw what appeared to be a courtyard with a lush green garden that was sprinkled with colorful flowers. Surrounding the garden that took up the entire center of the building was a pathway waved in white marble with light grey patterns.
“It is common for the honorable maidens to relax and socialize here together in the central garden. The other facilities such as the dining room, the common bath, the music room, the reading room, and many more are located on the second to the fourth floor. All floors above that are living suites for the maidens,” Madame Cassandra explained.
I followed her while taking in my new surroundings with my eyes and senses. The garden smelled faintly of flowers. Looking up, I could see the sky above. Although the building was large, whoever built or designed it clearly didn’t give much thought or care to the usable area of the building. The entire center of the building that lay above the garden was a vacuum. There was simply nothing there, but air and it was probably all for the sake of allowing sunlight to shine on the garden and to give the residents a view of the sky when they were in the garden. In other words, it seemed like the building was built around the garden.
“Follow me this way. There is someone that you absolutely must meet,” Madame Cassandra told me quite sternly.
“Yes, Madame,” I replied obediently.
I followed her until we stood in front of a door that was made of glass. To my surprise, instead of entering, Madame Cassandra pressed a button with an arrow. Suddenly, I could see the movement of mechanics inside and then the door opened to reveal a small space.
“Come in. Surely, you’ve seen an elevator before...” Madame Cassandra muttered with slight annoyance.
“Yes...” I replied stiffly.
I had seen a few before but they were much older and didn’t quite look like this one; however, this was probably my first time using one. It wasn’t something common in my daily life for sure. The orphanage definitely didn’t have an elevator and only big buildings in the city had them. Of course, I rarely had the chance to head into the city or visit any of those big and fancy buildings there.
“This building is very new compared to the other buildings in the palace and houses many latest technologies. You need to get used to it and use it to your convenience. We’re heading to the fifth floor now. There are stairs but walking up and down can be tiring. Well, at least it is for me...” Madame Cassandra explained.
“Do people normally use this to travel up and down this building instead of the stairs all the time?” I asked curiously,
“I would say yes. Unless they are looking to exercise or save up on electricity, I doubt anyone would walk up and down so many floors,” she replied casually.
“I see...” I murmured.
By that time the elevator had come to a stop and the door slowly slid open to reveal that we had arrived at our designated floor. The madame stepped out in front of me and I followed her. Just like the entrance, the floor retained the marble theme of the building, but it was much more modern in design than the other buildings that I had been to within the palace grounds. Wordlessly, Madame Cassandra led me along the hallway before stopping at a door.
She gestured for me to wait before she knocked firmly on the door three times. No one replied but after a brief moment, the door opened. I couldn’t suppress my gasp of surprise when I saw a woman who looked almost exactly like Madame Cassandra emerge from the room to greet us. Everything about the woman looked exactly like Madame Cassandra except for how her hair was styled and the fact that she had a light brown uniform on instead of a black one like the madame’s.
