Chapter 938: THE FINAL BATTLE (4)
Blood trailed behind Ethan in every step he took, his feet were burning, but he didn’t feel it. The only thing in his mind was how to get Aliana the help she needed. He couldn’t care less about himself.
"Iris! Please, help her! Help her!" Ethan watched how Iris and the lycan managed to take down one of the dragons.
This was the first time for him to see this ancient creature, where he had been fussing about because he didn’t have a chance to see it when they fought the creature in the Silver River pack.
However, he was not even thrilled to see five of them.
Iris immediately stood up and rushed toward Ethan, as the gamma put Aliana down on the wet ground. Rain kept pouring down from the night sky and the wind howled in the distance.
"That Serafim couldn’t save her, the other people couldn’t save her too!" Ethan said hastily, reporting everything to Iris. He was in distress and he talked a few more thing incoherently. His whole body was shaking and he couldn’t stop himself from talking so fast.
"Okay, I understood. You need to calm down, okay. You need to calm down," Iris said, trying to make Ethan stopped talking.
"Save her!" Ethan snapped, but then he apologized when the lycan let out a warning growl, which made the gamma whimpered.
Iris was already on it, as she tried to get rid of the spiderlings within Aliana’s body. She gritted her teeth when she found out the spiderlings had eaten half of her lungs and it grew very fast. She was not sure whether this was normal or not, but these creatures’ development was abnormal. Was it because of the black magic within them.
"Hold her," Iris said to Ethan. "This will be painful, you need to hold it, okay?" This time, Iris talked to Aliana, her voice was gentle and soothing.
For a moment, Aliana relax, she thought she would be able to hold it, but as it turned out the pain was unbearable. Ethan needed to sit on top of her and held both of her hands above her head to stop her from moving around, while Iris tried her best to end this as soon as possible.
"Hold it!" Iris said, she was having a hard time to pinpoint the exact spot of the spiderlings because it moved so fast within her body. A second later Aliana coughed blood, the gurgling sound from her throat made Ethan wanted to cry.
Because Ethan was sitting above her, he could see the agony in Aliana’s eyes, as she tried her hardest to hold it back, but she couldn’t. She kept thrashing her body and cried in pain.
"How long!? Are you done?! She is in so much pain!" Ethan shouted, as if Iris couldn’t hear him.
Meanwhile, the lycan didn’t seem to have any interested to watch this, as his focus was on somewhere else. He raised his muzzle and sniffed the air, he knew the dragon was not the end, it was only the beginning and just like what he thought, the roaring sound from under the ground could be heard one more time.
Because of the rain, it put off the fire, but the poisonous miasma was still there, though the smoke that came from it less toxic.
Once again, the ground was shaking and the last dragon that Rei managed to tame flapped its wings, while the man gathered his people to get a better control on this creature.
"What is that...?" Lou asked in bewilderment when he heard buzzing sound that came approaching them.
Far from them, they could see thousand of bats heading toward them, but behind them, they could see Nefilim and more monsters that they had never seen before.
"What the fuck..." Lou breathed in depression. "Tell me that you have a plan of how to fight them all." He glanced at Cezi and Jace.
For now, they only managed to save forty percent of the total number of the warriors, while the rest of them were either their lives essence had been sucked by Rei or being burned by the dragone fire. It was gut wrenching to watch how they died in vain.
However, at time like this, they didn’t even have time to mourn what they lost and focus on how to survive this unfair battle.
"Yes. Not getting killed." Jace narrowed his eyes. These monsters had to go through them first before they could reach the people from the Holy Kingdom.
Lou scowled at the answer. "What a great plan you have."
"We need to move out of the way." Cezi said and then repeated it again in loud voice. "Move aside!"
Their current position was in disadvantage, where they were in the cross path between the monsters and the people from the Holy Kingdom.
"Move to the side!" Jace repeated the order, he read Cezi’s plan on how to save them from being massacred brutally by these monsters, as they were outnumbered greatly.
"You! Help me with the protection!" Lou talked to Abby. He was being rude, but no one could call him out at time like this.
Abby then immediately created a protection shield around them, she drew her power from the Sylph, suppressing her agitation because she hated the fact that she was even weaker than Iris’s real protector.
"What now?" Lou asked Jace and Cezi.
"Let the people from the Holy Kingdom to deal with those monsters." Jace frowned when he watched those monsters stepped on the cocoons that filled with their warriors. Needless to say, they already died.
The only Iris’s personal warriors that they could save was only Kian and Zephyr. They lost Eron, Dyne and Otis. They found Redmond in the last minute and he still had not yet regained his consciousness, but they lost Amee and many more...
This so many deaths were something they didn’t even predict. They didn’t even expect it at all. They came fully prepared, but Rei had his own plan and used the shifters for his own advantage to replenish his strength and to create illusion for the dragon, so he could control them.
And all of that cost the lives of their people. Instead of using the people from the Holy Kingdom, Rei used the shifters.
What a real bastard he was! He used all means to achieve his goals!
Even at time like this, they couldn’t have a moment to grieve properly for losing their fellow warriors. They had to focus on the on going war, which from the look of it, the result wouldn’t be on their favor.
And above all that, Jace was worried about Ethan and Aliana. Did they make it? Would he be able to get his sister to the luna?
Jace didn’t want Aliana to get herself involved in this. If he could, he wanted to send her miles away from the battlefield, sending her to somewhere safe, so she didn’t need to suffer, but his sister was stubborn and she chose this path.
Meanwhile, Aliana was currently in so much pain, she felt like her organs were being ripped and burned. She had never been in this agony before, where even breathing only added to her pain.
"Please, stop this... this is enough..." Aliana vomited blood again. "I don’t want to be in pain anymore..."
Iris gritted her teeth. "Hold on for a while, Aliana... I am almost done... I am almost done..." she kept repeating the same thing. She needed to be extra careful if she wanted to get rid of the spiderlings within her body, because if she was being reckless, not only she would make her condition worse, but she could end up killing her instead.
However, Aliana didn’t want to fight anymore. She was exhausted and the rain was so cold. She only wanted to be hugged, not being pressed down like this.
And amidst this tensed situation, from the corner of her eyes, Iris saw a hand that patted her shoulder and when she turned her head, Iris felt her heart dropped to her stomach. She saw Amee, smiling at her.
However, she knew it was not the real her. It was her spirit... which meant...
And behind Amee, she could see Eron, Otis and Dyne, also a few warriors that she knew. The people, who started to accept her and respect her as their luna.
The light from her palms dimmed and tears started rolling down her cheeks. "No... no..." she shook her head, whimpering. This couldn’t happen...
She looked around her and now she could see the full extent of the number of the fallen warriors. Grace was also among them. Lou and the other couldn’t save them in time.
"No... no..." Iris was trembling and the lycan came toward her to support her body.
"What happened? What is it?" Ethan looked at Iris, mortified, thinking something happened to Aliana. "What is going on?"
Iris couldn’t find her voice, she couldn’t speak because the pain and sadness overwhelmed her. She lost them. She knew that she was going to lose most of them, but seeing them here in their spirit form, gathered around her, made it very real.
’It’s okay, luna... everything will be alright,’ Amee said softly. She hugged her, but she couldn’t feel the warmth from her body.
Amee was someone that close to a mother for both Iris and Cane. Even when Cane didn’t say it, but Iris knew he respected her like a mother figure. He listened to her.
’Everything will be alright, Iris, my dear...’
Eron smiled bitterly when Iris’s eyes found him.
’I am sorry, I can’t protect you again, luna. I am sorry that I can’t be there for you, luna.’
He was sorry because he had to die. But, what he regretted the most was because he didn’t die in order to protect her. They died just like that. They died because Cane failed to notice the secret plan that Rei was playing, they died because Iris couldn’t save them all.
If there was regret in their heart, this must be their biggest regret. They didn’t die in a battle. They died as a sacrifice for a black magic.
’I am sorry, we have not done our best.’ Dyne stepped forward and bent his knees. ’I wish I can be at your service a little bit longer.’
The rest of them followed, they knelt down in front of their luna for the last time.
’I wish I can see your babies growing up,’ Grace said.
Most of them were still clueless about Iris’s pregnancy and Iris cried so hard because she couldn’t see their reaction when she announced this good news. She wanted to share this happiness, but she felt like she couldn’t be happy anymore.
’Luna, please, remember us...’ Amee said softly. ’Iris, please take care of our alpha.’
At this point, there was no way for them to retrieve their bodies, as they had turned into ashes, thus they didn’t ask her to take them back home, but simply to remember them...
Iris’s heart filled with sorrow, she was grieving and the feeling was very overwhelming.
Right at the same time, the ground was shaking so bad, you could hear the crack on the ground, as if it split into two and from the fissure on the ground, you could see the red smoke of the poisonous miasma.
At this point, Iris’s sadness turned into rage when her eyes found Rei was rushing toward her, he tried to tell her something, but she couldn’t hear what he said. Her ears were ringing and the only thing she wanted was to kill that man.
Iris watched the fallen warriors and the people, who died because of her and Cane’s failure to protect them and she was filled with killing intent. She stood up and marched toward that green- eyes man.
However, before Iris could reach Rei, the lycan had knocked her to the side.
