The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 85: THE STORM
Chapter 85: THE STORM
"What do you mean they don’t know?" Cane frowned.
Apparently, among the goblins, there was another creature, as small as them, mixed in the battle and that creature was poisonous.
However, because none of the healers knew about this unknown creature, they didn’t know how to detox its venom.
Their healing ability could heal external injuries, but detoxifying poison was another problem entirely.
"I need to bring her to the infirmary, Grace said I need to get Seluba leaves to get rid of the venom, though she is not sure if it can help." Stone blanched when his daughter’s body became so cold. His words became incoherent.
It was his fault for taking his eyes off her. He shouldn’t have left her alone inside their shabby carriage.
"You can’t go in the storm," Cane said in a matter of fact tone. "Both of you will die instead if you lose direction."
"But..." Stone was visibly frustrated, he hugged Ania closer to him and caressed her back as the little girl whimpered.
It was not that he didn’t know about that. He wouldn’t make it if he insisted on going, but he didn’t have any other choice.
Right at that time, Ethan came to Cane and told him they found three spots that they could use as shelters until the storm passed.
"Call Ardand to see me," Cane said and then he looked at Stone. "You, follow me."
Cane didn’t doubt Grace’s ability as a healer, but Ardand had more experience than her, thus it was always advisable to get a second opinion.
Stone was torn, but in the end, he followed the alpha, along with Iris and the others.
One of the shelters that Ethan found was a spot in the middle of huge rocks, which could shield them from the brutal wind and dust that could suffocate them. Though it didn’t offer them a roof to take cover from rain, it was better than nothing.
There were around two hundred people crammed in this place, while the rest of the entourage took the other two shelters, which were bigger than the one that was found by Jace.
All of them had to leave the carriages that had their belongings behind, not even the alpha, the luna and the mistress were expections, while the guards led the horses to take shelter as well.
"How is she?" Cane asked Ardand, as he examined the little girl, who laid on the cold ground. They couldn’t set up a tent in this space, while rain was still pouring down from the dark sky.
It was so dark and cold, Iris sat so close to Hanna. Her body was trembling, as she watched Ania having a hard time breathing. She was whimpering in pain. Iris tried to open her eyes wide to read what Ardand was saying, because she was sitting a little bit away from them.
"This is all because of you! You bring bad luck to us!" Aria snapped at Iris, as she huddled together with two other girls. "The storm! The attack! And now many people got injured! All of that happened because you brought bad luck for us!" She hissed viciously.
Hanna turned her head and glared at the mistress, she was glad that Iris was too focused on Ardand and missed what she was saying.
If Aria was a little bit smart, she would know that the weather in this mining site was very unpredictable. If only the alpha knew there would be a storm, there was no way that he would lead a thousand people to move during this weather.
However, Hanna couldn’t voice her grievances, because she didn’t want to put her missy in a difficult position. Aria could do anything to her if she wanted, since she was higher in rank, but she didn’t want Iris to be affected.
"No, we need Seluba leaves to detox the poison. It is very risky to use healing power without detoxing the poison first." Ardand looked at a loss. His bony fingers were shaking in this harsh wind. "We didn’t bring any, because we thought we would not need it," he said regretfully.
Stone looked like someone just told him that her daughter was dead, what the former head healer said sounded the same in his ears. He started to wail like a wounded animal.
How could a huge man, whose body was built with muscles, cry like that?
"Where are you going, Miss?" Hanna pulled Iris’ hand when she stood up and wanted to approach them.
Iris glanced at Hanna’s questioning look. "I think I know how to detox the poison," she mumbled under her breath. She was not sure about what she was saying.
"What? How?"
Iris wriggled her hand away from her grip, but Hanna followed her.
On the other hand, Aria, who heard what she said, immediately stood up and approached Iris. She grabbed her shoulder and turned her around harshly.
"What do you want to do?!" She screamed against the howling wind. "Do you want to look closely at how that innocent child died because of you!? I bet you must be so happy to see it!"
Iris turned around and faced Aria. She missed what Aria was saying, but she didn’t have the slightest interest to ask her to repeat what she just said.
"You bring us bad luck! You should have stayed in your damned pack!" Aria screamed so hard, everyone there started to pay attention to them instead.
But right after that, she screamed again, only in pain this time when someone twisted her arm and forced her to get down on her knees.
It was Redmond. He was ready to snap her arm if she talked trash to Iris again.
However, Iris immediately rushed toward him to stop the warrior. "No! Stop it!" She was mortified to see how Aria struggled under Redmond’s grip. She wanted to shift into her beast, but she couldn’t do that in that position. "Let her go!"
"Are you kidding me?" Redmond narrowed his eyes at Iris.
