Chapter 620: THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM (3)

"Are you sure, you are okay?" Cane narrowed his eyes, his gaze was intense on his mate, because she had been acting off recently. Her emotion was erratic and it happened often.

"I am fine," Iris grinned, she tiptoed and pulled his clothes to bend his body, so she could kiss his cheek. She was being affectionate more in public, something that used to make her face turned very red.

Cane stared at her, deep in thought, as he wrapped his arm around her waist, barely grazed her belly.

"Let’s go back to the pack house. Don’t roam around."

"But, I am not alone," Iris protested.

"Still."

Meanwhile, Celia was chatting with Eron and Dyne, she told him that she bought something sweet for Joel. The girl had grown fond of the young warrior, seeing him as her big brother, as she missed him often.

On the other hand, Zale was quiet, his eyes would occasionally fix on the luna, he walked right behind her, looking around, as if he was on alert. He was thinking what the alpha had offered to him, but how could he know when he had free time? He used to be away and was very busy all the time.

When they arrived at the pack house, Zephyr came and reprimanded Zale because he skipped his training.

"You told me that you are only taking a break for a while, but you left for an entire day."

Zale left to give Iris flower, but he ended up following her all day in the town. He got a little bit trouble for that and Zephyr gave him a punishment to discipline him.

Two days later, Cane had a meeting with Redmond before he left to the Moon Dew pack, but when Iris found out about it, she pleaded to come with him too, because it had been a while since she had not yet met with that grumpy warrior.

"Stay here and rest." Cane caressed her cheek, but Iris had none of it.

"What do you mean rest? I just woke up."

Cane frowned and the seven warriors watched how their alpha caved in in the end, which didn’t surprise them anymore. Their alpha could be very strict and cold to anyone, but whenever the luna was in the picture, he softened up. More so, they also noticed how Iris had been very clingy lately.

"You gain weight."

That was the first thing that Redmond told Iris the moment he saw her and this made her wanted to squeeze the living out of him for his insensitive comment. He and Lou really needed to wash their mouth with soap some time.

But then, Redmond added. "I didn’t mean it in a bad way, I mean you used to be very sick and skinny. It’s good that you put on more weight."

"Nice to meet you too, Redmond," Iris hissed, she regretted to take the pain to come and see him here. She should have listened to Cane when he told her to stay at the pack house. "And congratulation to be a father."

Iris meant her last words as a sarcastic remark, because Redmond used to complain how much he hated that. Thankfully, at that time, she could simply turn her head away.

However, Redmond was grinning when he heard that.

"My baby is awesome!" he said with a big smile plastered on his lips, his face lit up when he mentioned his son, which made Iris smiled as well to see how happy he was, though he didn’t want to admit it.

Currently, they were in the entrance gate, where they would see Redmond off, the warrior would go to the Moon Dew pack related the matter with Sofia’s baby. This was part of the plan, though it didn’t go as smooth as Cane expected, because what Cyan did and the death of the king had changed his whole plan.

"Are you going to leave for Moon Dew pack alone?" Iris didn’t see anyone would come with Redmond. "Isn’t that dangerous?" She frowned.

"It will be fine," Cane said, he caressed her back gently.

Iris couldn’t see how it would be fine when he sent Redmond away all by himself to the enemy’s den. She was worried and it was justified. How could he send him away without any protection?

"Cane..." Iris wanted to protest. She had never heard this plan before, but then, if Cane had to elaborate all of his plan and the way he was thinking, it would take seven days and nights to do so and probably most of the ideas, Iris preferred not to know at all.

"I am thankful that you are worried about me, but there is no need for that," Redmond said when Iris wanted to argue with Cane’s decision. She gave him a look. "I am not going to die, okay? Don’t jinx me."

"I thought you don’t want to receive any order from him," Iris retorted.

"What’s the point? You always agreed with him anyway or will end up agreed with him." Redmond shrugged his shoulder and he couldn’t say it any better, since Iris admitted that she had never really given any order to him.

More so, Redmond could see how well Iris was right now and there were seven warriors that protected her, while the alpha seemingly very infatuated with her, which meant her position as the luna was secured, even though she had not yet given him an heir.

The situation changed and Redmond also changed his point of view in this whole situation. Not to mention this was the compensation for keeping Sofia and the baby protected. He couldn’t ask for more, if he didn’t want to appear very greedy.

"I heard you are able to hear now." Redmond changed the topic, because Iris seemingly was going to argue about him leaving alone. He knew she was kind and softhearted, and her genuine concern touched him.

"Yes, I can hear your voice now." Iris didn’t pay close attention to his voice, because she didn’t find it very endearing like Cane’s. Redmond had this hoarse voice and whenever he argued, his voice would turn into a growl.

"How is my voice?"

"I don’t really like it," Iris replied honestly, which made the warriors scoffed and she laughed to see his expression.

"Go back to the carriage, I want to talk with him for a while, okay," Cane said, he kissed her cheek and Redmond rolled his eyes. The alpha didn’t need to be very affectionate in front of him, right?

"Okay," Iris replied docilely, as she walked back toward the carriage.

"If you have time, can you see my son? I am worried Sofia will not take care of him properly. Just take the baby from her if you think she is being mean," Redmond shouted at Iris. He was simply talking nonsense, since Sofia adored her little one. There was no way in hell, she was going to harm her baby.

"Can’t promise that," Iris replied sourly. The baby was the same baby that people in the Howling Wolf pack thought was Cane’s and if she visited the baby, it meant, she would meet with Sofia. Seeing the history between them, she didn’t think that would be a good idea at all.

"Okay." Redmond didn’t bother with that. And once it was only him and Cane, his expression turned very serious, his voice deepened, as he talked to the alpha. "You trust me this much?"

"Not really."

"There will be a high chance I will betray you."

"I know." Cane nodded and Redmond narrowed his eyes, he couldn’t understand why he was given this assignment.

But then, his son and the mother of his baby were here, in his hand.

"And knowing that, you still go on with this plan? You are insane."

Cane said nothing, he only stared at the frustrated warrior before him, which made Redmond became even more speechless.

"I am not part of your people. I am from the pack that had enslaved your people."

"So did my mate."

Redmond was lost for words. Cane was right and the meaning behind his curt words was he saw beyond that.

"Well, Iris always goes along with your decision in the end, I didn’t do it for you, I didn’t pledge my loyalty to you," Redmond emphasized this, as if it could change anything.

"Okay," Cane said simply.

Redmond scratched his head and then waved his hand. "Fine. I will go now. Don’t blame me if I changed my mind in the middle of it. You know that I can impregnate any woman that I want. I am sure I can find another woman in the Moon Dew pack." The statement simply told Cane not to hold Sofia and the baby over his head, because it wouldn’t work.

"Okay."

The answer was still the same and before the alpha drove him crazy, Redmond chose to leave immediately.

Once he took off, Cane returned to the carriage and find Iris was waiting for him.

"Why did you send him away alone?" Iris clutched on his clothes, as she came closer to him. She literally straddled him now without her knowing it.

"I will tell you later," Cane said, he caressed her thighs and kissed her neck. There was this complicated look in his eyes. "Let’s go back to the pack house, you need to rest."

"I don’t want to rest."

"If everything went well with the meeting with the merchant. We are going to the Red Claw pack next week, it will be a long journey. You need to rest."

"Can I go with you to the meeting?"
