The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 597: THE TENSION OF THE SITUATION
Chapter 597: THE TENSION OF THE SITUATION
"Of course, we will go with you!" The seven warriors said it at the same time.
If they were going to the kitchen and the luna was hungry, there would only be one thing that happened and they wouldn’t miss it for anything, after all food was a life!
Iris laughed to see this and she felt a little bit better, as the seven warriors were rambling about random thing related to food. She felt a little bit closer with them.
Later that day, not only they welcomed the entourage from the Winter Moon pack, but they also received a report that Sofia was going to labor. She was starting to feel the pain, but the baby had not yet come out.
At this point when the report arrived, she had been in pain for half a day.
Ardand, the previous head of healer, who supposed to be retired by now, had been called to come because they were afraid something went wrong with the baby and the mother, since the other healer didn’t have the same ability like Grace or him.
"What happened with her? Why the baby has not yet come out?!" Redmond barked to Ardand in distress. "She has been in pain for half a day now! Can’t you do something?!" He felt like he wanted to fight anyone at this point, they were so useless for not being able to get the baby out of Sofia’s stomach right away. What a bunch of quack!
Maria had been staying by Sofia’s side and Kaz had been running around to prepare for the birth of the baby. The head of the steward looked extremely thrilled to welcome the alpha’s firstborn.
He gathered people to help him with the preparation and right now, all the people were busy under Kaz’s command, but neither of them really cared about Sofia’s predicament, all they were thinking was the baby.
"Breath, Sofia, breath, you must be strong. You will deliver the baby safely. The alpha will be happy to know you give him his firstborn," Maria kept whispering to Sofia the same thing over and over again, which didn’t help and it irked Redmond to the bone, he felt like he wanted to kick this old woman out, but then he didn’t want to cause a scene when Sofia needed people, who could console her now.
"I think there is complication, we need to do something about it," Ardand said. His brows furrowed after he checked on Sofia and the baby.
"What about the baby? The baby is alright, right? The baby is fine?" Maria asked in concern.
"The baby is fine for now, but if this continued, both of them might be in danger." Ardand took a deep breath, the crease between his brows deepened. "We need to get the baby out as soon as possible."
Redmond even more frustrated when he heard that. He pulled his hair. "Why do you think you were called to come here, Ardand?! Of course, you must do something!"
Ardand didn’t appreciate Redmond’s tone. "I just arrived, okay, I just informed a while ago. It’s your fault for not informing me earlier if you want this to get fixed sooner!"
"Blame that old hag! She was the one, who insisted not to have you here!" Redmond pointed his finger at Maria, who was still trying to console Sofia with the same nonsense. At this point, Sofia’s face had turned so pale and her lips had become blue.
Maria glared at him for putting the blame on her. "Having a male healer in a delivery room is a bad omen!" she shouted back. "You shouldn’t be in this room too, you bring a bad luck!"
They still believed that man should stay out of the delivery room and not to watch the woman in pain during the labor, because it could be a bad luck.
However, Redmond was so fed up. Fuck with bad luck! He would be wherever he wanted!
"If there is a bad luck here, it’s you!" Redmond roared angrily at Maria, he was on the verge of deciding whether he had to rip her limbs or immediately killed her.
"Enough!" Ardand raised his voice, he glared at Redmond and Maria. It seemed the hatred between the two of them had ran so deep. "Shut up both of you!" The old healer was truly enraged at this point. "We need to focus on how to give her a safe delivery! Maria, go and find the herbs I need and you, Redmond, go and fetch more hot water! Tell Kaz to stop with the preparation for the baby and help here too! That stupid old man! What is he thinking!?"
Redmond didn’t bicker, he immediately rushed out of the house and shifted into his beast to get that stupid steward’s ass to his house and helped there, instead of making a futile preparation in the pack house for the baby.
Meanwhile, Maria immediately got a bunch of list of the herbs she needed to get in order to help with Sofia’s critical condition, as Ardand stayed with her, he tried to channel healing power to give more strength for the mother and the baby, while the other healer waited for his other instruction.
It was a hectic day and everyone was very tensed, since they assumed this would be a moment they had been waiting for. The heiress for the pack, the alpha’s firstborn. Of course, they would be caught up with a joyous moment.
But, before the euphoria, they needed to make sure the baby was safe first.
Sofia kept crying because of the pain, though Ardand’s healing power helped to ease the pain, but it was not enough to make it painless for her.
"It’s hurt..." Sofia whimpered, as she looked at the old healer by her side with pitiful eyes. She was no longer able to cry, there was no more tears to be shed, because she had been in pain for almost a day now.
"Be strong, Sofia." Ardand started to be worried.
"Red... Redmond..." She was in so much pain. "Wh- where is he? Why he is... is not here...?"
=============================
"You are really in a good term with the head merchant from Rosantine guild, apparently," alpha Nolan said, as he walked with Cane. He nodded at the white bear that took a nap under the shadow of the tree not too far from them. "That his pet, right? I have never seen it, but I heard he has a white bear. Is he here? I would like to see him."
Cane glanced at Lil Thing, the bear would sleep anywhere it liked and wouldn’t wake up even when those children of alpha Adrian climbed on top of its body.
"He is not here, he still has some business to be done in the Riverside pack." This small talk really annoyed Cane. They acted like they were an old acquaintance that had not yet seen each other for long.
"But, his pet..."
"The merchant gave the bear to my mate," Cane replied. He knew sooner or later the topic about Iris would come up and alpha Nolan was having this roundabout conversation to feel the situation, but it started to irk Cane to no end.
"Right, where is your mate?" Alpha Nolan’s eyes lit up when Cane mentioned Iris first, he acted like he forgot about it, even though his main goal to come here was to escort Iris to meet with the Serafim.
"I have mentioned in the letter that she is sick. Her health is not good recently because of the long journey." Cane lied smoothly, as easy as breathing. Because right now Iris was healthy enough to have a small party inside the kitchen with the seven warriors, Aliana, Joel, Zale, Haco and Celia.
"It’s a pity, I really want to see her." Alpha Nolan turned his head at Cane and smiled. "I really want to see a woman, who has captured your heart and replaced my daughter’s position."
Alpha Nolan came prepared and he had heard enough information that mentioned how Cane favored his mate so much to the point, he abandoned his mistress, who was currently pregnant with his firstborn.
He wanted to see it firsthand how much this man favored that runt.
But it seemed, that information he had received was true. He tried to put that woman away from this mess, from him.
"Because we need to go to see the Serafim soon, I think we need to make a preparation and get more healer to come with us." Alpha Nolan went ahead with his plan. "We will leave within two days, so you need to be prepared for that."
Cane smiled, something that he rarely did, but it didn’t touch his dark eyes at all. "I have never said I will agree to leave that soon."
The way alpha Nolan spoke it was more like a command than a suggestion. Just like the other alphas saw Cane, since he would be the youngest alpha of all the packs, they didn’t take him seriously, especially when he just got his and his people’s freedom from slavery.
"We will leave after my mate gets better." Cane stopped walking and opened the door to alpha Nolan’s bedroom. "I hope you have a good rest. I will have someone to call you for dinner."
Alpha Nolan raised his brows. This was not the young boy he met a decade ago, who was infatuated with his daughter.
However, he was tactful enough to read the situation. "You are so kind. I will let my healer to check on her."
