Chapter 572: SOMETHING THE HEALER COULDN’T HEAL
Being stared at like this and knowing how she had interrupted their discussion, Iris felt an urge to apologize and back away at once. The door was right behind her and all she needed to do was to turn around and leave.
But then, she would lose her chance to talk with Cane...
"Uhm... Can you leave us for a while?" Iris asked timidly, trying so hard to look firm, but failing obviously. "P- please..." She was very nervous.
She became even more depressed when those three warriors turned to their alpha, waiting for him to say something about the order from their luna.
Iris assumed Cane would ask her to leave. It would be embarrassing, but she could understand if Cane did that.
However, the Alpha wouldn’t put his luna in such a position. He wouldn’t intentionally embarrass her.
"You heard the Luna’s order," Cane said after a long pause, as he stared at Iris’ defeated expression, a result of herself thinking he would turn her down.
Only then, Iris could sigh in relief. Even her shoulders visibly relaxed a bit.
Hearing what the Alpha said, the three warriors immediately left the scene. Even they could feel the heavy atmosphere that shrouded their alpha and luna. They knew the two of them were not on good terms, because of what happened the other day.
And somehow, they wished the two of them would be able to fix their problem soon, because recently the Alpha was very scary. It always looked like he had this murderous aura around him lately and that was too much for them.
"What do you want, Iris?" Cane asked. Surprisingly, his voice was so gentle. Iris thought he would snarl at her for being defiant again and interrupting him with his warriors.
What should I say? I am sorry? Why did you ignore me? Are you still mad at me?
Iris had been thinking about what she was going to say when she met Cane again, but now, she was not sure what to say anymore. Her throat tightened and her eyes welled up with tears, as she became very emotional.
"If there is nothing you want to say, I will leave." Cane didn’t even use the door behind Iris, though it was closer. Instead, he turned to use the door behind him to avoid her again. He didn’t even want to be in close proximity with her.
What had gone wrong? Was he that mad? Like, mad mad, very mad with her? What could she do to fix it?
Out of desperation and not knowing what to do, instead of talking and starting to explain why she was there, Iris yelled at him.
"Cane! Stop right there!" Iris shouted at him out of impulse, when she saw how Cane was going to leave.
This managed to make Cane stop and glance at her over his shoulder in disbelief. "First, you defied me and now you are ordering me around?" His tone was so dark, it was laced with perplexion. Did he give her enough guts to be this bold with him?
Iris bit her lip, she felt like her body was getting smaller under his intense gaze. She didn’t dare to raise her head and chose to stare at the ground beneath her feet instead. She waited, thinking Cane would start to scold her or something, but instead of doing that, the Alpha simply resumed walking away from her.
"Cane, wait!" Iris hastily raised her head and chased after him. She knew if Cane really wanted to walk away from her, he could do that in a heart beat, she couldn’t physically hold him back.
Therefore, out of desperation, Iris tried to reach Cane before he could walk out of this greenhouse. Her plan was very simple: she would clutch onto him with all the strength she had and wouldn’t let him go until he agreed to talk to her and stop ignoring her.
However, it was very unfortunate for her that her short legs didn’t want to cooperate. Her feet tripped on something on the ground and she stumbled. She lost her balance and her head hit one of the racks, which caused all the pots to fall.
Iris shrieked when she realized those pots would fall on her and immediately closed her eyes in fear. Not only the pots, but the rack was about to collapse as well. She braced herself for the pain, but the next thing she felt was someone pulling her forward as her face got pressed against a sturdy chest. She could hear the rumbling groans from inside his chest and also the sound of broken pots around them.
It was scary, but Iris knew it was Cane who was holding her tightly, protecting her from her own clumsiness.
Only once the scary sounds of the broken pots stopped, did Cane release Iris. He checked on her immediately. His eyes became so dark and the frown between his brows looked so scary when he saw her forehead swollen. It must be because she had hit her head against the rack.
However, the Alpha became even more fearsome when Iris started to cry.
She didn’t cry because her head was in pain, she didn’t even care about the pain. She cried because she saw how much Cane worried about her and this made her feel a bit relieved, until it caused her to cry. She thought she was going to lose him, since he had been ignoring her.
Such a relieved feeling made her want to cry and once she started, she couldn’t stop, while Cane became even more anxious to see her in tears, thinking Iris was in so much pain.
The only visible wound that he could see was on her forehead, but there was no blood, aside from his own. Some sharp shard from the broken pots must have cut him, but this kind of wound was nothing to Cane.
Cane was silent when he picked Iris up carefully and walked out of this mess. His feet crushed the shards further when he headed toward the exit door, while Iris hugged his neck tightly, as if she didn’t want to let him go, still crying.
A few days ago, she defied him and just less than five minutes ago, she shouted an order at him and now she was crying desperately.
Cane was half running to reach Grace in her room, but there was Joel and Celia inside. The young warrior had just received treatment from the healer, while Celia accompanied him. They were about to leave when the Alpha stormed inside and startled them all. It almost felt like a monster had barged into this room, as they could feel a dangerous aura coming from the Alpha.
"Leave!" Cane growled, as he put Iris on the bed, but his mate refused to let go of his neck. She clutched onto him like she was glued to him.
On the other hand, Celia immediately pushed Joel’s wheelchair out. The little girl was so scared to see the Alpha so enraged and wanted to leave immediately. Joel took a glance at the Luna, looking worried, but he would be crazy if he insisted on staying. In less than a minute, both him and Celia were already out of the room and the healer closed the door behind them.
"Wh- what happened?" Grace asked, approaching Cane and stared at Iris.
"She is hurt," Cane said grimly.
"Hurt?" Grace came closer, she couldn’t see where Iris was hurt, nor could she smell any blood from her. "Can I see where you are hurt?"
Iris refused to lie down and kept burying her face in the crook of Cane’s neck. She didn’t want to let him go. This was her plan after all. The more Cane tried to pry himself out of her arms, the more Iris tightened her grip on him, while Grace could only see her back.
"Luna, can I see where you hurt yourself? I promise I will be quick," Grace coaxed her, but then she was speechless when Iris started to straddle Cane, because he was going to free himself from her forcefully, so Grace could check on her injury.
"No!" Iris said sternly. Her voice was so hard and harsh.
Judging by her voice alone, Grace knew she was fine, or at the very least, whatever injury she sustained it was not a life threatening one.
But seriously, she felt so awkward to watch their position right now.
There was a time when Grace saw the Alpha acting strangely, like he was not himself, but at this moment, it was the Luna. How could she straddle the Alpha in the presence of other people?!
"Alpha, I think the Luna is fine. Probably, she is only shocked by what had happened, so it will be better to let her calm down, I will make a concoction to calm her nerves." Grace tactfully made an excuse to leave this room. She bolted out of the door once the Alpha nodded, leaving the two of them alone.
But, outside of the room, she met with Aliana, who was grinning from ear to ear. "How is the Luna? Why did you come out? The Alpha asked you to leave?"
Grace frowned, this sister of the Beta was rather cunning and she knew that. "I want to make a concoction for the Luna, it seems she is still in shock."
"Nah!" Aliana waved her hand and put an arm around Grace’s shoulder, as she walked her over. "Don’t bother them, at least for the next ten to twelve hours."
"What?!" Grace wanted to swat Aliana’s hand away, as she walked her in a different direction.
"Trust me, my friend, there are a lot of things that you can’t heal," Aliana grinned.
