The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 531: MISUNDERSTANDING AND CLARITY

Chapter 531: MISUNDERSTANDING AND CLARITY

While the tonic prepared for Cane was to help him with his fertility issue, the tonic meant for Iris was simply to nurse her health, so she wouldn’t fall sick easily, which was proven to work wonders on her.

However, hearing what Cane said, she felt her heart being stabbed with a dull knife as she kept apologizing again.

"No, Iris. Stop." Cane didn’t tell her this to make her feel bad, he only wanted her to be aware of this and to find out whether they were on the same page about having the baby, since they had never talked openly about this.

Yet, he didn’t expect the effect of what he said to be so great on Iris, as she literally took it so hard and blamed herself

"Please, don’t." Cane kissed her to stop her from apologizing, as she felt so horrified.

"I didn’t mean it, Cane."

"I know you didn’t mean it."

"I am not lying."

"You are not a liar, Iris." Even if she did lie to him, he would know immediately, as she was not good at keeping secrets from him.

However, it didn’t make Iris stop crying and Cane was not sure about what to do. He started to think that he had talked to her too harshly. But, he was certain that he didn’t even raise his voice when he told her off about the alcohol.

Cane then put aside the bed tray and hugged her. He waited until she calmed down again, because she was too emotional right now.

Based on what he knew about her, his mate would tell him what she felt at some point, thus all he needed to do was to wait until she was comfortable enough to talk about it.

"Did I say something wrong?" Cane asked, he cradled Iris in his arms, as he kissed her hair and knuckles, his way to tell her he was not mad at her.

"The thought of you thinking that I don’t want a child with you hurt me," Iris said between her tears. "I didn’t do it on purpose, I am really stupid for not thinking it through."

"Enough with that self degrading word, Iris," Cane said sternly yet gently. "I don’t want to hear that."

Iris stopped talking altogether, as she rested her head against his chest and stared at the scenery outside of their window. They stayed like that for almost an hour. They felt the silence between them was very comforting and she liked to be held like this.

"Iris, I asked this only to make sure there is no misunderstanding between us." Cane was the first to break the silence between them, as he played with her hair.

There were so many things that needed to be done, but here they were, trying to comfort each other and get to the bottom of their own problems first.

"I remember how my mother got really sick when she was pregnant with my twin siblings. She was sick for the first four to five months, before she got better and I still remembered the smell of blood that came from her room when she gave birth." Cane adjusted his position when Iris lifted her head and stared at him, as she listened. "I don’t know how it feels or how much it will hurt, but I know it will not be easy for you and I don’t want to put you through something that you don’t want."

Iris shook her head. "No. I want it," she said adamantly. "I want it, Cane."

Whether this was because of the sense of obligation for the women in this realm to give birth to continue the bloodline or Iris was just being a shell of herself, who used to try to please everyone, but the thought of having a child that resembled her or Cane warmed her heart greatly. It gave her happiness just thinking about that.

"Okay." Cane smiled and kissed his mark on her neck.

They had come so far to this point, where they could talk about their feelings openly. A lot of things had happened and a lot had changed them, and they were grateful to still have each other as a comfortable place to be vulnerable in this world, where you were not allowed to show a speck of weakness.

"Let’s try it again, shall we?" Cane asked, kissing her chin and Iris had to bite her lip to stop herself from smiling.

However, as if the timing couldn’t be worse, she felt something trickle down between her legs, it was not because she was getting wet.

"Ah..." Iris grimaced when she felt her period come and Cane chuckled.

"I think your body is still upset with me for making you cry early this morning."

Iris laughed with him as well, her heart felt so light and she couldn’t believe that they just had a heartfelt conversation and almost had a misunderstanding between them. It could be fatal if they didn’t clear things up immediately.

"Hm, Cane. You didn’t do anything to the other warriors, right?" Iris remembered Cane sending them to the dungeon when she passed out the last time.

However, Cane didn’t answer that, he buried his face in the crook of her neck, since he couldn’t get any sex from her for a few days ahead, he wanted to be close with her in another way.

"Cane? You didn’t send them to the dungeon again, right?"

"No. I sent them to the mountains to catch some monsters."

"Cane!"

However, Ethan and Aliana were still missing. He would give them separate punishment once he got a hold of the two of them.

==============================

They would leave for the Silver River pack the day after tomorrow and Jace had been very moody because, firstly; Aliana would go with them.

He still remembered his conversation with his little sister, where she showed her mature side and how it shut him up really quickly.

’Jace, you can’t keep me safe. There was an attack within the pack. I want to do something to help defend our pack, our people. I don’t want to play with the kids when I can do more to provide their safety and the Alpha needs all the support he can get and I know, even if I can’t be of any help, at the very least, I will not be a burden.’

Jace was still in denial that his little sister went against his words for the first time, even though in the past, she always threw tantrums here and there, at the end of the day, she would still listen to him.

But not now.

’Hanna can help gather information, but she doesn’t know what she needs to look for and what she needs to dig deeper with the access she has, but I can do better.’

Hearing that, Jace immediately knew where she got the information about that and how she convinced the Alpha to let her come with them.

And the second problem was; the matters in the pack house. Usually, he would split the responsibilities of the pack with Kaz, as he would be responsible about the things more common, like the distribution of food, keeping tabs on their expenditure and what they would need for the coming season, or some trivial things that would take time if Jace had to handle them all, since he needed to do more important things.

Therefore, here Iris was, with permission from Cane. Only after coaxing him all night, did the Alpha finally agree with her.

"Are you sure this is going to work?" Jace asked Ethan, who was standing next to him, as they watched Iris enter the dungeon.

"I told you, you will never be able to convince Cane, but if you can convince Iris, you are halfway there," Ethan said proudly. He had observed them enough to know how much the Alpha listened to his mate, even though he would never admit it.

Jace frowned.

On the other hand, Eron escorted Iris into the dungeon, where they kept Kaz in one of the cells. It was not as bad as Iris thought. This place was pretty clean compared to the one in the Blue Moon pack and Kaz’s cell didn’t look so horrendous. He even got a small window, from where he could see sunlight.

"Kaz," Iris called him and Eron told her he would be outside if she needed him and then left.

Kaz had his back against her, as he stared at a tree from his small window. He looked haggard and a little bit dirty with disheveled hair. His back was hunched and within the few weeks that he spent here, you could see how he lost all of his pride and arrogance.

"Lu- luna Iris..." Kaz called her, his voice was trembling, he looked mortified when he saw Iris was there. He thought he would get the final verdict. "I am sorry for what I have done to you, please, please, don’t kill me. I know I have made a grave mistake, please... don’t kill me."

Kaz knew what happened to Jemma, Sofia’s personal maid, even though it was Will, who delivered the punishment, which obviously killed her, but it was Iris, who let that happen. She must have known how fond Will was of Hanna.

Therefore, the first thought that came to Kaz’s mind was; she would get him beaten to death. That was a horrendous way to die and was very cruel...

"Luna, please... I promise, I swear I will..."

"I will not kill you, Kaz," Iris cut him off before he could promise her anything. She didn’t come to hear that. "You don’t need to promise me anything. I will be gone before you leave the dungeon."
