The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 527: CALM NIGHT
Chapter 527: CALM NIGHT
Celia didn’t know the details of Haco’s condition, but she was smart enough to be able to sense that something wrong was going on with him and the way he kept forgetting things terrified her.
They became close only recently, since it was Haco, who was there with her when she lost her brother, the only family she had.
Therefore, the thought of losing the old man dreaded Celia so much. She could feel it in her heart, especially when Haco was going to leave with the Alpha’s entourage to the Silver River pack soon.
Meanwhile, Ania felt sad because she saw Celia crying. She used to play with her, thus seeing her tear up, she felt so bad.
"It’s okay... everything is going to be okay..." Iris tried to calm down the two girls, who were clinging onto her. She picked Ania up after removing her hands around her leg and kissed Celia’s forehead.
Iris put her arm around Celia’s shoulders and the latter rested her head on her shoulder. They walked toward the garden, while the rest of Iris’ little entourage followed the trio in silence.
"Luna, can you do something for Haco? I don’t want him to leave like my brother..." Celia whimpered.
"Where will he go?" Ania asked innocently, tears still streamed down her face. "Your brother is dead, will the funny man die too?"
Ania liked Haco, she met him a few times and the old sorcerer always showed her his magic.
On the other hand, Iris couldn’t make Haco stay because the sorcerer insisted on leaving with them. As cruel as it might sound, Haco was right, there were a lot of things he had to do before he was gone.
"I was told that when someone dies, a baby will be born and their soul will go to that new life. So did my mother and my baby brother. They are babies now. Now, your brother is also a baby." Ania wiped her tears. "Haco also will be born as a baby if he dies."
Imagine Haco becoming a baby, he would be a grumpy one...
Iris was not sure whether she should laugh or cry hearing Ania’s rambling. She was curious who had told this little girl such a story, but probably, such beliefs helped her to go through the grief of losing her mother and her baby brother all of a sudden.
After all, people cope up in different ways that work for them, even the little ones like Ania.
"Really? I have never heard of that..." Celia lifted her head to look at Ania, who was still sitting on Iris’ hip.
"Yes!" Ania’s eyes lit up and she came up with more stories, which fascinated Iris as well. For someone so young, she was a good storyteller.
But then, they heard someone approach them and a shocked voice called the little girl’s name.
"Ania! What are you doing? Get down!" Stone was shocked when he saw his daughter being carried by the Luna.
Ania was startled and immediately climbed down from Iris’ lap, as she approached her father with her short legs. She got scolded for being impolite to the Luna.
"Don’t get angry with her, I am the one who carried her. If you want to get angry, it should be at me." Iris frowned. She disliked when Stone talked to his daughter sternly for something that she couldn’t be held responsible for.
"I will not dare," Stone said in a small voice, he averted his gaze from Iris. It seemed he still remembered the way he treated her in the beginning of their encounters with each other, but then the more he saw Iris right now, the more he felt guilty for his treatment. She was nothing but kind, not to mention, she had saved Ania’s life twice.
"Don’t scold her, Stone. I like her company. I wish she can visit me often," Iris said, as she ruffled Ania’s hair, which gave Stone a mixed feeling.
"Yes, Luna," Stone complied, he still didn’t dare to look Iris in the eyes, while he carried Ania in his arms. "It’s already late, I will take my leave."
Iris nodded.
"Bye, Luna Iris!" Ania waved her hand, as she hugged her father’s neck.
Iris waved to her as well. "Come and tell me more stories, okay?"
The little girl beamed when she heard that. "Yes!"
Once Stone left with Ania, Hanna approached Celia. "Come, it’s almost your bedtime." She stretched out her hand to take Celia away from Iris.
Seemingly just realizing what she was doing was quite improper, Celia immediately let go of Iris. "I am sorry," she muttered in a small voice.
"I will ask the Alpha whether or not it is possible for you to come with us, so you can accompany Haco, but I can’t promise you anything about this. Do you want to go?" Iris thought it would be a good thing if there was someone that was close to Haco all the time, since the old man started to forget things.
So, there would be someone there to warn them if something bad happened to the old sorcerer.
Celia wiped her tears as her eyes lit up. "Really? I love to go!"
"But, I can not promise about this." Iris emphasized this fact, because if Cane disagreed after she tried to persuade him, there was nothing she could do. "Don’t get your hopes high yet."
Celia nodded vigorously. "Yes. Okay!"
Hanna suddenly hugged Iris and kissed her cheek. "You changed so much, Miss. But, it’s a good thing. I am so proud of you."
Hearing that from Hanna, Iris’ heart swelled with happiness. She felt like she was so greedy to hear such words from the people around her. It would feel so good when someone noticed you and acknowledged your efforts, telling you that you were on the right path and how proud they were of you.
"Thank you," Iris said with a sweet smile on her lips and kissed Hanna’s cheek as well.
Meanwhile, watching everything unfold, the seven warriors were deep in their own thoughts, especially the five of them, who were so doubtful of Iris’ character in the beginning.
Meanwhile, Aliana stared at Iris’ back and touched her chin. She remembered what Ethan had told her and didn’t believe it in the beginning, but right now, she could see why the Gamma perceived this luna in such a positive light.
Iris still looked so timid and seemingly too kind for this chaotic world, but there was strength in her kindness. Her presence alone could make the people around her feel calm and lower their guards down.
"There you are!" Ethan exclaimed when he saw the people that he had been looking for. "I am here to ask for the payback!" He strode toward Iris and the rest, while Hanna had left with Celia. "Let’s go grab some drinks!"
"Can’t you see we are on duty?" Eron retorted, as he frowned at the Gamma. They had already used this excuse countless times now. They still felt the bet was unfair.
"Why not?" Ethan directed his gaze toward Iris. "You will come with us, right? They agreed to pay."
Aliana looked mischievous when she learned what was going on here, she giggled. "Do you want to have some drinks with them?"
"I think I need to tell Cane first if I want to go with you..." Iris wanted to go, but she was not sure if Cane would approve if she went too far from the pack house.
"We will have to take a detour if we have to go to the pack house first. I will ask someone to inform the Alpha, okay?" Aliana grinned at Iris. "You have never been to that part of the pack before, right? As a luna, you need to know more about your territory, don’t you think so?"
Ethan was speechless hearing how smoothly Aliana talked with Iris. They only met not so long ago, but it felt like they had been friends for quite some time, which was a good thing if Iris was comfortable enough in Aliana’s presence.
"I don’t think it’s a good idea," Zephyr chimed in.
"Oh, don’t ruin the mood!" Ethan growled at him, as he coaxed Iris as well. "You will come with us, nothing will happen. After such a depressing turn of events, we need to cheer up a little bit, don’t you think so?"
After some contemplation. Iris finally agreed. "Okay." She had been looking forward to spending time with them and trying new things, therefore, without Aliana and Ethan’s persuasion, she had been tempted enough to go.
"Great!" Ethan and Aliana clapped their hands, as they talked joyfully about all the drinks Iris should try.
However, the seven warriors grimaced. "Do you think this will end well?" Dyne asked, as they followed the three of them.
"I don’t think so," Kian replied. "I don’t want to receive the wrath of the Alpha again..."
"Talking about the Alpha’s wrath... do you know that Luna Iris could hear?" Asher asked, he was still shocked by the revelation.
It was only Eron and Dyne, who told them they too knew about that not so long ago.
"Why didn’t you tell us?!" The five of them almost talked simultaneously.
"I thought you already knew about that, since you can see how she interacted with other people without reading their lips," Eron retorted.
"How would we notice that...?" Otis grumbled.
"Don’t tell me you are badmouthing her behind her back." Dyne seemed to know their habits. "Serve you right if the Alpha heard about that."
Meanwhile, as Eron and Dyne scolded the five warriors, a certain white fur-ball was busy roaming around the pack.
