The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 493: IRIS LOST HER TEMPER

Chapter 493: IRIS LOST HER TEMPER

Redmond could smell Sofia’s scent from behind the door to the Luna’s bedroom, but she was not alone, Maria was there with her to take care of her. The old lady had been taking good care of her, especially after the death of Jemma and she didn’t have anyone to rely on in this pack.

The dispute she had with Iris had sent Kaz and a few other pack members of the Howling Wolf pack to the dungeon and Kaz was the one who was very vocal in supporting Sofia from the moment she arrived in this pack.

Redmond was glad Cane stood up for Iris, but he was not sure what to feel with Sofia’s current situation. She still believed the baby was Cane’s and it irked him to no end, despite what he said about not wanting to be a father. He didn’t think he would be a good one, thus it would be better not to try.

Currently, Redmond was standing outside the door, holding a loaf of bread that was still hot. The pack was in shambles after the battle and countless people had died, thus they needed to strengthen the pack’s protection and make a plan of what they needed to do.

The fact that the royal warriors had waged a war against them, meant the King had decided to eliminate Cane blatantly. The greedy old king wanted his hands on the seven packs under Cane. Redmond could see how Cane became a threat to the King.

"What are you doing here?" Maria suddenly opened the door and saw Redmond. She had sensed his presence a few minutes ago, but because Redmond didn’t make an appearance, she decided to walk out of the room for a while, after she put Sofia to sleep. What happened earlier shocked her and she couldn’t stop crying.

Redmond was startled, he was deep in his own thoughts and didn’t notice Maria approaching him. "Nothing. I only want to give you this." He handed her the loaf of bread in his hand. "Make sure she eats it. There is not much food left because those bastards ruined our storage."

Maria pressed her lips tightly, as she received the loaf, but she couldn’t help it and mumbled under her breath. "Half of the bastards you were talking about were your people." She clearly drew the line between the Howling Wolf pack and the Blue Moon pack here.

What happened yesterday would only add more tension to the relationship between the two packs.

"And I have been here, since yesterday, risking my own precious life to kill my own people," Redmond said sarcastically, he stared down at the old woman. "Does it make you feel better?"

Maria lowered her head even more, avoiding his eyes altogether.

"Next time, if you care so much about your pack, you are welcome to go out and fight with us, because it is so tiring to defend your ungrateful ass."

After saying that, Redmond swiftly left. His emotions were all over the place. He knew he did the right thing by killing his comrades for their betrayal and standing by the Howling Wolf pack people, but it didn’t mean his heart did not ache when he had to kill his men with his own hands. He had known them longer than he knew the people from the Howling Wolf pack, who were still half accepting of himself and Iris.

In his current bad mood, Redmond couldn’t sugarcoat his words. Hell. He didn’t even talk nicely to Cane either until recently, so a mere ’Maria’ wouldn’t hold any value in his eyes.

"Damn! I want to ask how the baby is!" Redmond grumbled begrudgingly because he forgot, but he didn’t want to walk back and face that old woman again.

==============================

The four of them walked in silence as they went through a secret shortcut toward the pack house. Avid was on a mission to inform the warriors about the King’s scheme and the fact their alpha was in danger. He was on a mission to seek help, but he died on the way before he could accomplish it.

Avid was a dedicated warrior, probably this was his first and last mission that he failed to accomplish.

Meanwhile, it was only Iris, who could see his spirit right now. He looked sad and the sight of him squeezed her heart so badly.

"Are you sure this is the right way?" Oliver asked.

"This is the right path," Iris replied, without turning her head toward Oliver, but none of them realized this peculiarity, since they didn’t interact with her much in the past.

"How do you know this path?" This was a secret path for a reason, only a few warriors knew about this.

"Avid is guiding us," Iris replied in a matter of fact tone, while the lycan looked so bored. He kept pulling her hair or twisting it between his fingers; he would stop every time Iris glared at him, but repeat his antics two minutes later.

Aliana watched everything and there was a deep frown between her brows, she knew Cane wouldn’t act so childishly like that. There must be something more to it... She planned to interrogate Ethan once she reached the pack. She wouldn’t let the Gamma go before she got all the answers she wanted.

"Are you really able to see spirits? I have never heard of someone having that kind of ability before," Oliver started his own interrogation, because he looked doubtful of her.

"Yes, me neither," Iris replied simply. She was too tired to read between the lines.

"What are you, Luna Iris? How can you do that? Does your power have anything to do with... Alpha Cane’s condition? Is that the reason why he becomes like that?" Oliver’s tone turned accusatory, which made Aliana turn her head as well to warn the warrior.

Even though Aliana wanted to ask the same question, she was wise enough to know this was not the right time to fire countless questions. All of them were so tired and they wanted to go back to the pack so badly.

Finally, Iris lost her temper. She was so sick to be accused of having some kind of underlying motive when all she wanted to do was to help.

Iris stopped walking and turned around to face Oliver. Her blue eyes shone brightly under the sunlight. "Warrior, you can ask me these at a more appropriate time. I am not going anywhere. And do you think it is really necessary to question my motives when I am here to help you retrieve the body of one of your comrades? I don’t know that you can be this careless about your friend."

Oliver clamped his mouth real fast. He gritted his teeth hard, seemingly fighting back the urge to talk back, but he swallowed it down and apologized instead.

"My apologies, Luna Iris," Oliver said in a hoarse voice, as if he was forcing himself to say the words and it didn’t sound genuine at all.

"One more thing, Oliver. I am still your alpha’s mate, the Luna of the pack, no matter how you view me. I hope you can show me a little bit of respect. I hope you will never interrogate me like a prisoner again."
