Chapter 483: MORE EXPLANATION (2)
Rei looked offended when Iris talked badly about Na. "Don’t talk badly about her, Iris, or else, you will not like what you are going to hear, now that you are able to do so."
Iris ignored that. His voice was not pleasant to hear, if he was hellbent on talking, it would be better if he talked about something more important. Not to mention she was already on edge with the loud sound from the waterfall.
"Should I thank you?" Iris asked sarcastically. She gritted her teeth. "What is the use of you? Are you here to protect me because of Na? Because some part of Na is within me?"
Rei answered without hesitation. "Yes."
Iris saw red when he admitted that. Her emotions were all over the place now. There were so many things that happened during this short period of time and she didn’t have a moment to wrap her head around this newly found information yet, everything went so fast.
"And where were you when I was abused as a child, didn’t you care whether I died or not?" Iris gritted her teeth, she balled her fists tightly. She wished this man was a shifter, so she could squeeze his spirit to death, maybe by then, he could understand how ridiculous his statement was.
Now Iris also realized that the spirits could only be seen on shifters.
"Iris, I don’t even know your existence until we met in the black market," Rei admitted that much. "Your mother has been missing for decades."
"My mother? You know my mother?" Iris narrowed her eyes. She looked conflicted. "How do you know my mother? Did my mother know you too?"
Rei clamped his mouth shut and Iris understood this gesture. So many people around her usually did that whenever they didn’t want to give her an answer.
"Where did you meet my mother?" Iris was irritated with his silence. "Answer me!" Iris screamed at him, she wanted to approach him and shake his body, so he could spill the answers she wanted to hear.
Now that he could say something useful, why would he decide not to talk?
"I will answer that if you come with me. Leave this continent and I will let you know everything that you need to know." Rei extended his hand. "I will answer all of your questions and will not hide anything from you."
Leave the pack?
That was what she wanted until a few days ago when she felt unwelcomed by the members of the Howling Wolf pack and how jealous she was of Sofia when they accepted her readily. Kaz was even willing to incur Cane’s wrath just to defend Sofia.
Seeing how conflicted Iris was, Rei added. "I know what happened with that pregnant woman and how the pack members dislike you, even after what you have done for them. Now, you have the choice to leave them all behind. Nothing good comes out of you staying here. Come with me, Iris. I will show you the purpose of your life."
But, leaving the pack meant she had to leave everything behind, right? All people that she knew... those warriors, who had been warmed up to her, Hanna... Cane...
"No, thanks. Hanna always said not to go with strangers," Iris replied. She took a step back.
Hearing that, Rei fell speechless. "You are as stubborn as ever."
"You don’t know me, don’t talk to me as if you have known me for so long." This irritated Iris, because she knew what Rei saw in her was Na. This man looked past her and only saw the first Serafim in her.
"Believe me, I know you." Rei still could feel the familiarity between Iris and Na, and this small thing would always be his comfort. He lost it over more than two decades ago and now, he finally found it again. He was not going to lose her again. "You made the mistake of letting the lycan enter your life, don’t make the same mistake again now. You need to stay away from him."
"You are not the one who can decide here."
"Iris, I bet you should be able to see by now, what kind of bloody path that that alpha will walk through. You shouldn’t walk the same path as him."
"Why not? Those people deserved to die!" Iris hated it that he talked bad about Cane, probably the feeling was mutual when he did the same with Na.
"See? You can see how much that lycan has changed you. You shouldn’t feel such negative emotions, your hatred only makes Decratic stronger. This is only one of the reasons why you shouldn’t be with the lycan. He brought nothing for you, but calamity. Not only for you, but for this world too."
"And you brought nothing for me, but a burden." Iris threw him a look. "If I recall, this is our third time meeting with each other, and you are already trying to tell me what to do with my life. I am not going with you. Cane is my mate, I will stay with him."
"You don’t have any idea what will happen, Iris." Rei shook his head.
"It has been five hundred years, why are you still alive?" Iris asked, her voice clear with no timidness whatsoever. She approached this situation calmly. Somehow, she knew Cane or the lycan would come looking for her. She just needed to stall time, until they could find her.
Rei looked Na right in the eyes, he didn’t answer her question.
"What is it? Are you using dark magic too? I can feel traces on you." Iris gave him a once over, making the man feel uncomfortable. "I am right, aren’t I? You did use dark magic."
Right at that time, both of them could hear an angry roar in the distance and a strong wave of relief washed over Iris when she saw the lycan emerging from the darkness. The beast fumed, as he took a stance in front of her, ready to tear this man apart.
"Long time no see, Lu," Rei greeted him.
