Chapter 471: THE BLACK WISP
Chapter 471: THE BLACK WISP
Redmond stared into the distance. He was in utter disbelief upon seeing what the warriors under him had done behind his back. He had been away for so long, until he didn’t realize Lyle had taken over his role and cashed their loyalty to himself.
Regardless of whatever reason it might be, it was still unacceptable.
Currently, he was standing not too far from the Howling Wolf pack’s gate, staring into the distance toward those bunch of ungrateful jerks, who he thought were his people. They avoided his eyes, as if they felt shameful and guilty, as they should!
Behind Redmond were a few Howling Wolf pack’s warriors following him out for this negotiation, since this battle shouldn’t happen in the first place, while Jace stood on the fortress, staring down at them all. The Beta’s expression was so cold, as if he was ready for the worst. He didn’t believe it would go smoothly, the way they wanted it.
Meanwhile, in front of Redmond was Lyle.
His second in command, or should he call him as his ex second in command, stood ten steps away from him. They stared at each other and in the end, it was Redmond, who broke the silence.
"What do you mean by this?! Back off now and admit your wrongdoings, I will spare you!" Redmond barked, seething. The worst betrayal came from your closest ones and right now, Redmond could feel it.
Lyle was a person he had gone through so much with, even while they were under the oppression of the other warriors in the Blue Moon pack, until they could climb to their current positions.
For decades, they had been comrades and now they had found themselves standing on opposite sides.
"You don’t actually believe I will surrender, right? I have come to this point with preparation, I will not back down." Lyle looked calm, but his eyes showed his true emotions. He was determined, this was the hill he was going to die on. "Even if we did, the Howling Wolf pack will not be as generous as you."
That was true, they were going to be slaughtered once the warriors from the Howling Wolf pack got their hands on them. Both parties knew that absolute fact.
"Redmond, I know you hate the people in the Howling Wolf pack," Lyle started. This time, his tone was rather friendly, as if they were still good friends, but Redmond showed nothing on his expression, thus he took this as his cue to keep talking. "I know you are not satisfied with being a dog for those slaves! They used to be beneath us and now they have been extorting our Blue Moon pack for their own benefit! They took our mines and that so-called luna didn’t do anything about it! How can you give your loyalty to such a pathetic woman and follow her?!"
That was how Redmond used to think of Iris. She was nothing but a weak woman, who couldn’t even protect herself, let alone the Blue Moon pack.
Just like how the Howling Wolf pack people had been disappointed to have Iris as their luna and how just seeing her triggered some dreadful memories of what her father had done to them.
The Blue Moon pack members were not happy to have her as their luna either, since she didn’t do anything for her own pack. She literally handed over the pack to Cane on a silver plate and they felt so sick to see how the two of them showed affection here and there. Even their relationship seemed to be doing really well recently.
"Redmond, come. Come with me. We can revive the glory of the Blue Moon pack. We have the King behind our back," Lyle said gently, trying to persuade Redmond, because he knew this was what he wanted.
Redmond was a loyal dog. His loyalty shouldn’t be questioned, though he appeared so careless and reckless, but because Iris was the last hope for the Blue Moon pack, he was stuck with her.
As it turned out, that runt was nothing, that stupid woman was drunk by the affection that alpha showed her.
"Together, we can revive the glory of the Blue Moon pack and stop the Howling Wolf pack from extorting our mines and our people," Lyle then spoke again, this time, his voice was rather deep. "We have the King behind our back, there is nothing for you to stay in this pathetic pack! We can fight them all and we can win!"
Jace frowned when he heard that. If he were Redmond, it would be the biggest temptation, since he knew Lyle only talked out loud what Redmond desired.
He may have placed his loyalty in Iris, but Redmond saw her as the embodiment of the Blue Moon pack.
This didn’t look good, especially when Redmond made a move.
He actually walked toward Lyle!
"Come here, Redmond." Lyle’s eyes lit up. "With the king backing us up, we can revive the Blue Moon pack in no time!"
==========================
Thick black wisp shrouded Cane, as this old man tried to extract the lycan out of him, but it was not as easy as taking a walk in the garden, especially when the cursed creature resisted to leave his vessel.
Cane could feel the range of emotions from anger to disgust from Lu toward this old man. Sweat trickled down from his forehead when he used all of his power to get his hands on the lycan.
Meanwhile, Lady Cyan was still sitting on the ground, watching how the black wisp grew bigger and thicker. Was that the lycan’s soul? Her father was trying to suck the lycan’s soul out?
What would he do with it? Lady Cyan didn’t know what her father was planning with the lycan, but she was sure whatever it was, he did it for the revival of Decratic.
"Arrghh!" Cane growled, as his eyes turned pure golden, the pain was almost unbearable and as his earlier battle with the royal warriors drained him, he couldn’t put up a decent fight.
