Chapter 422: LU

Cane looked fine when he pushed his body off of the ground, he was no longer having a hard time breathing, but when he lifted his head to look at Iris, the sight of his eyes made her stop in her tracks from touching him.

"Na..." Cane whispered.

It was his face, it was him who was sitting in front of her, but Iris felt like she had lost Cane. What was going on? Why did his eyes turn red? That was the same color as... the lycan’s eyes.

"Na..." Cane whispered again, he moved closer to Iris, but out of instinct, she backed away from him, which made him frown at this gesture. He didn’t like her being away from him. "Don’t go, don’t be angry, I promise I will be good."

The furrow between her brows deepened when she read what he said. What did he mean by that?!

"Wh- what?"

"Na, I promise I will be good. I will not hurt people. I will not kill them." Cane moved closer to Iris and rested his head on her lap, as he guided her hand to caress his head. "I will be good, I promise you."

Iris was dumbstruck, what was going on right now?! What did Cane mean by his words? She couldn’t understand what he was talking about.

What had she done to him, which caused him to act so strangely right now?

"Cane?" Iris caressed his head dumbfoundedly, because he wanted her to do so, as he closed his eyes, ready to fall back asleep. "Cane, is that... you?"

Iris was not sure if she was right about her conjecture, but her mind told her the worst case scenario that she thought was too wild to happen actually happened.

"Cane?" Iris called his name again. "Cane, is that you? Answer me."

Cane opened his eyes again and they were still in the color of red, but he didn’t say anything, instead, he brought her hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles gently, this gesture sent a shiver down her spine. His lips were so cold, his skin was so cold and deep down, Iris knew it was not her mate...

Iris didn’t know how to describe it, but she simply knew it, just like how she purified the black magic stones, or how she could sense dark magic, it just happened.

"This is not you, Cane..." Iris felt suffocated, she was at a loss. What had she done? What had she done to her mate?

Cane shifted his attention to Iris’ face and then let go of her hand, as he extended his hand to wipe away the tears that were now rolling down her cheeks without her knowledge.

"You can call me with whatever name you want, but don’t cry. I don’t want to see you cry." Cane brought his fingers, wet from her tears, to his mouth and licked them. "I never liked your tears."

"You are not Cane," Iris said, her whole body trembling. Where is he? Who is this person on her lap? Was this... "You are the lycan." The words came out as a soft whisper, her voice trembled at the end knowing she was right about it.

It was not Cane, it was the lycan that had been residing inside of him. If the lycan came to the surface and took over his consciousness, what happened to Cane?

What had she done to cause this?

"You are the lycan, right?"

Cane’s red eyes dimmed, but instead of answering Iris’ question, he hugged her waist protectively.

"Can you... can you give him back?"

"No."

"Why?"

"I don’t want to."

Iris bit her lips, she stared at Cane’s face, but it didn’t feel like him. She was angry with him, she was angry with the members of his pack, but she didn’t wish something like this to happen.

"I need him... can you give him back?" Strangely, Iris talked to the lycan as if she had done it several times before, or probably, it was true in a sense.

"You don’t need him, he is just a nuisance," Cane said, he played with her hair that now cascaded around his face. "Tell me the story about the little girl and the monster. Your favorite story."

Iris remembered her telling the story to him during the new moon the night they were in the Alpha Gallot’s pack, the very night Redmond took Cane’s place to bed Sofia.

So, the lycan did hear what she said?

"Tell me that story, I want to hear it again..." Cane nudged her arm to get her attention. "I want to hear your voice."

Iris’ mind swirled wildly, as she had a lot of questions and was too shocked to realize what to do with this whole situation.

A lot of things happened in the span of a day.

"Tell me the story and I will tell you mine."

Iris felt her throat turn dry, as if she just swallowed sand. "Lu?" She tried and Cane smiled.

"Yes?" He lifted his head slightly, so he could get a better look at the auburn haired woman. "I always love the way you call my name. My sweet Serafim. I finally found you again... I will protect you within the shadows of the dark. I will always be with you. I will find you no matter where you are. You are mine to protect, you are mine to love. Even when death tears us apart, I will find you again."

The last statement shocked Iris. She had heard the oath being said before, but she forgot about it the moment she woke up from her dream.

And now, this lycan repeated every single word perfectly. He chanted it in a way she heard it in the first place.

And then... a Serafim? His sweet Serafim?

But then, Cane pushed himself off of the ground again and moved so fast to shield Iris behind his back when he sensed someone coming their way.

"Cane! Come here, there is a reply from the Celestial Moon pack!" Ethan waved his hand at the Alpha.
