The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 418: YOU ARE NOT MY PEOPLE
Chapter 418: YOU ARE NOT MY PEOPLE
"You put that woman in the Luna’s bedroom and then you told everyone to call her ’Lady’?"
The question came as a statement instead. At this point, all of them could see how livid the Alpha was to hear someone pronouncing a woman as his mistress.
Kaz was once again dumbstruck by Cane’s reaction. He couldn’t understand why the Alpha was so different, or maybe he simply didn’t know his alpha enough to begin with.
"Alpha... she is..." Kaz swallowed his saliva with difficulty, as he glanced at the Alpha briefly, but he regretted it immediately, as all words deserted his mind. The sight of Cane’s expression right now was so terrifying.
"You did that?" Cane emphasized his question.
"Y- yes, Alpha..." Kaz stuttered, he stole a glance at Iris, who said nothing the whole time. What was this? Was this because the Luna complained to the Alpha about something? What did she say to make the Alpha so mad at them?
Even Jace had a hard time understanding Cane’s affection toward Iris, even with the help of Ethan’s explanation and warnings, let alone these people, who saw their alpha as a cold and calculative man.
It never crossed their minds that their alpha would genuinely care about Alpha Gerald’s daughter, especially when he and Iris just arrived four days back and both of them were so busy with a lot of things.
"Lady Sofia... she is pregnant with your child, Alpha... she is blessed by the moon goddess to carry your heir."
And then, Kaz made a huge mistake by glancing in Iris’ direction again. It was very subtle, but when someone as observant as Cane was paying his full attention to you, such a gesture wouldn’t go unnoticed by him.
His anger turned his eyes golden, which made all of them kneel before him, begging for his forgiveness, though some of them were not sure what the exact reason behind his anger was.
Amee was mortified, because she could understand what Kaz was trying to imply. She had warned him not to think that way because there was no proof the baby in Sofia’s stomach was Cane’s child. She knew it was not Cane’s, but she couldn’t tell anyone about it.
Yet, Kaz was very sure, his argumentation was; the Alpha didn’t reject the woman and didn’t say anything about it.
Yes, the Alpha didn’t reject the woman, but he didn’t acknowledge her either. In fact, he completely ignored her existence.
Amee had warned Kaz, but the old steward didn’t bother to listen to her.
"Throw him into the dungeon!" Cane was livid beyond words, what Kaz did triggered him; he implied how Iris was not able to conceive his child.
It was him. The problem in this matter lay with him, but Iris was the one who took the brunt, and here she was, saying nothing about it when they disrespected her in such a way.
Had they done the same in front of her, too? Talked to her directly about it?
And the fact no one was suspicious about his infertility was proof enough that Iris didn’t say anything to defend herself.
"Alpha!" Kaz lifted his head, feeling dreadful for himself.
"Throw him into the dungeon and the four of them as well!" Cane was seeing red. He couldn’t control his anger at this point. He felt the anger and humiliation consume him.
"Alpha! Please, forgive me! Forgive me!" Kaz pleaded with Cane, as did Aira, Jill and the other two omegas, who confronted Iris, while the rest of them trembled in fear. This was the first time for them to see this side of their alpha.
Because all this time, the Alpha had been a kind and caring person, someone, who would protect them and they could follow blindly.
And now Cane’s harsh decision evoked a mixture of emotions within them. They were afraid of him more than ever.
His golden eyes were a clear evidence of how livid the Alpha was right now. His beast came to the surface, which was the cause of his eyes turning gold. It was only seen in the shifters of royal bloodline when they showed a deep emotion and at this moment, it was anger.
"Alpha! Please! Luna! Forgive me!" Jill and Aira along with the other two omegas called for Iris, but soon they realized it was a waste of energy, since their luna was deaf. If she wasn’t looking at them, she couldn’t hear them.
"Alpha, I am sorry! Please, not the dungeon! Not the dungeon!"
Being thrown into the dungeon was not a simple punishment, as it brought back a lot of traumatizing memories for all of them. It was a place they didn’t want to visit, and now the Alpha was being so cruel by sending them back there for a simple matter. They didn’t even hurt the Luna!
Avid and Stone were having a hard time hauling the five people, who refused to leave, away. Seeing this, Jace called ten more guards to help.
The Beta grimaced at this sight, but of course, he was wise enough not to question Cane’s decision and plead with him for him to reconsider their predicament.
When the commotion grew, Iris stood up, she felt so suffocated to be there even a little bit longer. She didn’t even touch the cup of tea Cane brewed for her.
Seeing that, Jill and Kaz immediately approached Iris, as they knelt down in front of her, gripping the hem of her dress.
"Luna, please! This is a misunderstanding!" Kaz wailed. "You are so different from your father, you need to tell the truth to the Alpha that we didn’t do anything outrageous!"
"Luna! We didn’t do anything to harm you! This punishment is too cruel."
Iris stared at them, but she didn’t show any emotions when she finally spoke. "You never thought of me as your luna," she stated and took a step back, so they could release her dress. "I don’t think of you as my people either."
Her statement shocked everyone there, including Cane.
After saying that, Iris turned around and left the kitchen.
