The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 404: ARE YOU AFRAID?
Chapter 404: ARE YOU AFRAID?
"I don’t agree to cooperate," Lou said smugly, as he smirked at Cane, who finally met his eyes. "I don’t think the deal will benefit me."
There he was, trying to provoke Cane again with his antics.
"Sir Lou, I don’t get it. Which part do you think won’t benefit you?" Alpha Dristan asked politely, but Cane could sense he was going to lose his patience with this merchant.
It had nothing to do with the deal, it was just Lou being difficult on purpose.
"Alpha Dristan, can you leave us alone for a while?"
"I have explained to him in a simple way," Alpha Dristan retorted, thinking Cane assumed his method of explanation was not good enough to make the merchant understand what they were trying to offer to him.
"It’s okay. A simple way from you still seems too difficult for him to understand, therefore, you should lower yourself to the level of his way of thinking," Cane said calmly, as if he was not insulting the merchant openly right now.
Alpha Dristan was surprised with the way Cane talked about Lou and when he looked at the merchant, he was sure the latter would have shifted into a beast if he was a shifter. Lou’s expression was beyond dark.
Was it alright to talk like that about this merchant in such a way when they needed him to accomplish this project? They just discovered this tunnel and it was Cane who made up his mind to continue building this shortcut to the Crystal Moon pack.
But, with all those monsters around the Goffa mountain, this project would be stuck, just like when it was under the command of Alpha Gill. It would only be a waste of time and resources without the help of this merchant.
"Leave us for a while," Cane said before Alpha Dristan could interrupt him again.
Still clueless about what Cane was going to talk to the merchant, Dristan left them alone. They were in the middle of this vast land, so he simply returned to his own carriage.
Meanwhile, Lou was very irritated with how Cane had underestimated his intelligence. Wasn’t he too much? This alpha must know that he only teased him.
Unfortunately, Cane was not in a good mood. His mood was never good whenever he was in his presence.
"Which part is not good enough for your own benefit?" Cane cut straight to the point. His patience was running thin with every second he spent with him.
"I think you are intelligent enough to know that’s not the problem here," Lou said, he looked so proud of himself to be able to jab Cane with his words, after what he had said to him earlier.
"You are just wasting my time. Take it or leave it." Cane didn’t fall into his game, as he took back the control over this conversation, steering it back to the main issue here.
On the other hand, Lou’s smile fell, he looked at the Alpha disdainfully. "You know I am going to take this." The benefits he would get from it were far too tempting for his greedy ass. "But, I want to ask you one question."
"Shoot."
"What is it between you and the lycan? How do you know you can survive and save your mate from that cursed creature? How do you know when the creature will appear?" Lou asked, his expression turned serious, as he waited for Cane’s answer.
"That’s three questions, can’t you count?"
Lou gritted his teeth. This alpha was really annoying. "Can’t you just answer me?"
"I never agreed to answer your question." Cane turned around, about to leave. "Do your job and we all will benefit from it."
Yet, Lou was not willing to drop the topic. "Was it you who summoned the lycan?"
Cane stopped walking and turned around to face him. "Don’t say something so recklessly. At times like this, the topic is too sensitive."
Lou chuckled to hear that. "What? Are you afraid I will trick you?"
Cane scoffed, he stared at the merchant disdainfully. "I am afraid you don’t have the ability."
After saying that, Cane continued walking toward Alpha Dristan’s carriage, leaving the merchant fuming mad. He could hear how he was cursing him under his breath, yet he couldn’t care less about it.
Cane had let Lou get involved too deep and he started to get suspicious. The merchant held an important role on his chess board, but he couldn’t let him get closer than this.
He read the situation and the problem with cunning people like Lou was, they could be a double edged dagger. They were very useful, but if you didn’t use them carefully enough, you would be the one who would end up bleeding to death.
After Cane left to approach Alpha Dristan in his carriage, Lou followed him begrudgingly to settle the deal between the three of them.
Of course, the merchant wouldn’t miss this, a chance to strike a deal with two packs, which owned the only two magic stone mines in this realm. He would be crazy to reject the offer.
Well, at least, people thought there were only two magic stone mines...
Moreover, Lou could see how greedy Cane was; it was very obvious he wanted to swallow the whole southern kingdom by himself, but no one would blame him for executing the five alphas because his reason was judicious and with the golden stamp in his hand, he indeed had the ability to make a call for justice.
"Damn it! What did I get myself into? Gerald should have killed him when he got a chance. This alpha is too devious to deal with," Lou mumbled to himself.
Even so, the merchant couldn’t turn down his offer, which only irked him further.
Lou looked around, but he couldn’t get a glimpse of the auburn haired girl. He rushed here without resting with Jace in hopes he could see her again after so long, but to his disappointment, the Alpha didn’t bring her along with him.
"What is it? He usually takes her everywhere he goes." Lou frowned, feeling dissatisfied.
