The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 399: THE LYCAN AND HIS MATE

Chapter 399: THE LYCAN AND HIS MATE

Haco was trying to pull a pitiful card, seeing how compassionate Cane was toward these people, there was no way he would harm a vulnerable and powerless sorcerer like him, right? He was only an ordinary old man without the magic stones, as the Alpha was always very careful before giving him too many for him to accumulate power he could use to go against him.

It was just Cane being careful enough, though he knew Haco would be too afraid to expose himself out there if word got out about him being a dark sorcerer.

"Are you done?" Cane asked in the middle of his whining. Haco immediately clamped his mouth shut and shifted his attention toward Iris.

"I know you will pull it through, you made the Alpha worried! But, I have no doubt you can make it! I have never been wrong with my observation! Never have I doubted you or the power you hold in the slightest!" Haco praised Iris instead.

"Tell me more about her power," Cane said immediately, since that was indeed the topic he wanted to discuss with him.

Haco tilted his head, he contemplated for a while and then extended his hand to Iris, asking her hand. "I don’t know what you meant by telling you more about her power, but I am sure she is not a runt."

Iris extended her hand and Haco grabbed it. His hand was so callous and bony, she felt like she could break his fingers, but at the same time, it was strong and firm.

Probably because of the stress Cane had caused him, he looked a little bit older and haggard than usual. Cane’s threat must be so dreadful until it made him feel on edge.

Haco was silent for a while, as he held her hand. "I am sure she is not a runt. No runt can perform magic, though I can’t say her ability falls into the category of performing magic either." He contemplated for a while, still holding her hand.

"Are you checking on me?" Iris asked.

"Hm." Haco nodded.

"Will your hand be cold like this while you are checking on me?"

"Magic users, who perform black magic mostly have cold hands," Haco explained it simply, because the exact explanation would be more complicated than this, since magic was a vague entity.

"Lady Cyan has cold hands too." Iris recalled when lady Cyan grabbed her hand and how uncomfortable she felt.

Hearing that, Cane’s eyes dimmed. "Would she be able to develop the same predictions about her as you?"

Haco blinked his eyes. "Well, if she is as powerful as me, probably..." He narrowed his eyes, as if he remembered something. "The dark sorcerer in the palace... if she really checked on you, then she must be the dark sorcerer in the palace."

It was still an assumption, but the possibility of it was pretty likely.

"So, she is as powerful as you?"

"No one is as powerful as me."

"In that case, she couldn’t pinpoint my mate’s ability?"

Haco looked hesitant when he answered this. "I am not sure..."

This possibility didn’t cross his mind and here he was, missing the important part, which put his mate and his plan at risk.

No. He even got the Holy Kingdom involved in this matter. He was not sure if this would be a good thing or not.

"Maybe she knew, but maybe she is not that powerful... she managed to prevent me from cursing Princess Osana further, but she made a lot of sacrifices to do so. At best, you should be careful with her. No dark sorcerer will bring you anything good." Haco caught the way Iris looked at him. "Except for me, except for me, I am good. I became a dark sorcerer because of that damn lycan, okay?" He became a little bit defensive.

"Can you help her figure out her ability?" Cane asked Haco. "There is something more to her ability."

"I am not sure..." Haco felt so incompetent to repeat the same answer over and over again. It hurt his pride. "I am not familiar with her ability, it does not feel like magic, yet it is similar at the same time, but of course it is not black magic or something like that either." Haco then leaned over in curiosity only just realizing he missed the last piece of information Cane told him. "What do you mean by there is something more to her ability?"

Cane told him briefly about what Iris saw and talked a little bit more about the dark wisp that sometimes would emanate from him, while Haco listened to him seriously and Iris was stunned with the way Cane hinted she could be a magic user or something.

"There is so much evidence that proves she is not a shifter, nor is she a runt," Cane said at the end of his explanation.

"Wow... that’s a wild theory..." Haco lamented.

"But, does it make sense?"

Haco massaged his forehead because what Cane said was so wild, yet it opened a lot of possibilities, especially with such evidence. "It can be..."

Silence ensued inside the carriage, as the three of them busied themselves with their own thoughts. Iris felt like they were talking about someone else instead, because never in her wildest dreams, did she think of the possibility of herself being something more than a deaf runt...

Did she really have that kind of ability? What could she do with it?

And the first thing that struck her mind was; how could she help Cane with it?

"Look for more stories about the lycan and his mate." Cane broke the silence with an uncommon request.

"Huh? What about the lycan? Aren’t we talking about her?" Haco nodded at Cane.

"The lycan recognized her as his mate, there must be a reason for that."

"Maybe because she is beautiful and caught the lycan’s attention?" Haco tilted his head.

"Scram and do what I said!" Cane growled at this dense sorcerer, who immediately hurried out of the carriage.
