The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 392: A GENTLE KISS IN THE MORNING

Chapter 392: A GENTLE KISS IN THE MORNING

Iris felt her whole body as feather as a light, as if she was floating. At the same time, she felt so warm and she immediately found out the cause behind it when she tilted her head to the side.

There was this huge lycan by her side, laying down comfortably with its muzzle resting on her shoulder. The lycan was awake and their eyes clashed with each other’s, until the creature shifted back into its human form.

Outside, the sky became a little bit lighter and the sun appeared on the horizon, but the silence continued to dwell inside the room, as the two people stared at each other without a word.

’How are you feeling?’ Cane mouthed the question, knowing Iris would read it anyway.

Iris didn’t immediately answer his question, she stared at him sleepily, still reeling from her deep slumber. "I had a dream," she said finally in a low voice and then shifted her body to face Cane. The Alpha wrapped his arms around her waist instinctively, their bodies moved in sync, as if knowing what the other person needed.

"What dream?" Cane mindlessly drew circles on her waist with the tips of his finger.

Probably, it was her habit of telling Cane about everything. She had nothing to hide and she didn’t want to hide anything from him.

"I was in a huge hall, the place was so beautiful, but it was empty. There I saw these five swords when I climbed this tall podium in front of me. I walked closer and had this urge to touch the swords. An urge and curiosity... somehow, my legs guided me there without me realizing it."

Cane’s eyes dimmed slightly, but his voice was soft and light when he asked. "What do these swords look like?"

"I don’t know, there was light coming from the swords and also... a woman."

"A woman?"

Iris furrowed her brows. "I saw her from afar... from across the hall."

"Since when have you been having this dream?" Cane traced her back, running his fingers along her backbone and shoulder blades.

"I am not sure... but, I think it started after you marked me..." Iris was sure before she met Cane, she had never had this kind of dream.

And then silence befell upon the two of them, as they fell deep in their own thoughts. The sun rose and the light spilled into the room through the opened windows.

"Why did you touch the stone?" Cane asked. He stared at Iris intensely. He was sure Iris saw what Haco said at that time, the sorcerer explained how dangerous the stone was, as it was suffused with dangerous black magic.

Iris averted her eyes from him, something she would do when she was reluctant to answer Cane’s question, but she was literally trapped in his arms and had nowhere to hide.

Gently, Cane put his finger under her chin and made her look at him. "What is it?" He could see the complicated look flashing past her beautiful blue eyes.

"Why didn’t you want me to touch the stone?"

"You can be hurt," Cane answered in a matter of fact.

"You don’t want me hurt because you need me?" Iris asked and this made the Alpha furrow his brows. He felt there was another angle to her question.

Cane said nothing for a moment, as he saw the complicated look in her eyes turn into sadness and he figured out where Iris got this idea from.

"Yes," Cane said, as he leaned over and pressed his lips against hers. It was nothing like the drunken and reckless kiss Iris gave to him, nor was it like the rough and impulsive kiss they shared that night, which was filled with frustration and anger. This time, it started so gently... "I need you," Cane whispered against her lips, though Iris wouldn’t be able to know that.

Iris was surprised when Cane started kissing her, but she didn’t push him away and this gave the Alpha enough prompt to deepen their kiss. He bit her lips lightly and brushed his tongue against her lips, as he coaxed her to open her mouth.

This was something that Iris was not familiar with, but it didn’t mean she would reject this step in their relationship. She could feel when he was being so careful with her, knowing what had happened to her recently, but then Iris also knew, this was not easy for Cane either given his past.

Both of them tried to take it slow, tearing down the walls that surrounded them, letting the other person in...

And right at that moment, someone knocked on their door and the spell was broken. Cane pulled away from Iris almost immediately and she lowered her head, blushing, feeling embarrassed because Cane stopped abruptly.

What happened? Iris thought she did something wrong, but then Cane kissed the tip of her nose and got off the bed. The Alpha opened the door and Iris peeked through her messy hair to see Jace and Ethan were there.

The Gamma waved his hand at her, but Iris immediately hid under the blanket, while Cane slammed the door close behind him.

"What is it?"

"She is awake? Should I call Grace and Hanna?" Ethan asked, he looked cheerful to see Iris was finally awake. Jace was kind of freaking out to see Cane refusing to step out of the room and taking care of Iris by himself. Well, that was not news for the Gamma...

"You go and find them," Cane said to Jace instead.

Confused, Jace went away to get the order done, though he felt a little bit off with this, since the Alpha could order a warrior to do such a thing.

"What is it?" Cane asked Ethan rigidly, asking what he was going to report to him about.

"The King decided to come to the south." Ethan looked a little bit conflicted. "I think the King had heard about Sofia and now he wants to make sure the woman is indeed pregnant with your baby."

"Who is coming with him?" Cane couldn’t care less about the King’s motives.
