Chapter 384: IRIS UNDERSTOOD HIM A LITTLE MORE

Chapter 384: IRIS UNDERSTOOD HIM A LITTLE MORE

The famine in the five packs was pretty bad. People in these packs had to lose their family members from lack of food during winter and now when the ground was warm enough, they could finally bury them. Even so, the problem with the food had not yet been solved.

Their only hope was to start hunting in the Goffa mountain, taking the risk to meet the monsters and be killed by the creatures. Their options were so limited.

Therefore, when they saw carriages full of food, their eyes lit up and even though Iris couldn’t hear what they whispered to one another, she could see their eyes filled with hope and their desire to have their hands on nice food, feed their children and old members of their families.

"If you want to get food, make two lines here! We will distribute the food evenly, you are not allowed to take food twice!" Oliver said in a loud voice to the crowd.

Only, none of them walked forward to get the food, as they still looked confused and scared, since something like this had never happened before. What kind of food were they distributing? Was it poisoned? Rotten? They looked skeptical, but at the same time, curious and excited to fill their stomachs.

Iris looked so nervous because no one was approaching them, she glanced at Cane, who looked emotionless as ever. He didn’t seem to bother himself with this current situation, as he knew they would eventually come around.

But Iris took the initiative to approach a pregnant woman with her two children, around the age of seven and ten.

"Come here, hurry, or you will need to stand in line for a long time when everyone comes to take their own share." Iris didn’t even bother when she took her hand gently and the other woman flinched because she looked so beautiful and clean with her rosy cheeks and brilliant eyes, while she was the opposite.

"I am dirty, My Lady, you shouldn’t..."

Yet, Iris was smiling at her, as she tugged her to come with her toward the line Oliver had mentioned before.

"Where is the food?" Iris asked one of the Howling Wolf pack members, who was still stunned to see what Iris was doing. This woman and her children looked so dirty, as if they had not taken a bath for weeks. They also smelled unpleasant, but the Luna couldn’t care less about that detail.

"Ah, right... here." The warrior handed three bundles to the pregnant women.

The woman looked shocked, she couldn’t believe it and gave the other two bundles to her children. While she opened the one in her hands, the bundle consisted of bread, milk, meat and grains. It would last her for three to four days.

It was a simple, basic meal that someone like Iris and Cane could find easily, but for people like this woman, it was heavenly.

The woman couldn’t help and tear up to see it, as she thanked Iris and all of them profusely. "If I can kneel down, I will kiss your feet, My Lady, thank you so much!" She said between her sobs and her little daughter was crying to see her mother cry, she was afraid.

"Don’t thank me, this is all because of Alpha Cane’s kindness. He is the one who ordered the food to be distributed," Iris said, she wouldn’t take the credit for something she didn’t do, as she put in good words for Cane.

Though, Cane had never mentioned he was the initiator, but who else, if it was not him? All of this wouldn’t happen without his permission.

More so, with this, Iris could see a little bit better what Cane was doing.

The Alpha was aiming for the throne, but he didn’t start with the King, instead, he started with the people and now, he had the southern packs in his palm. He moved the people to his side not by force and active threats, but by the way he treated them in the way they deserved.

Iris felt a wave of emotion when she stared at Cane, who was talking to his beta, while the other people started to come forward after they saw what the pregnant woman got from them, making two lines like how Oliver had instructed them to.

"Follow the line! There is enough food for everyone!" Oliver shouted, as he moved his men to make sure these people didn’t cause trouble.

There was a little bit of commotion when words spread through the area and more people came to get food, or there were a few people who came twice to get more, but aside from that, everything went well.

Meanwhile, Sir Elijah was dumbstruck, so were all the border warriors and the warriors from the Riverside pack, who were at the back of the carriages, they looked at each other, frowning at what was happening.

What Cane did was unheard of for them. Not to mention to get food for free, they would be beaten up to death if they were caught stealing the food, even though they worked for Alpha Gill.

"Tired?" Cane approached Iris when it was time for lunch, as the warm sun had risen high above their heads. He came over to his mate after he talked about a few things to Sir Elijah.

"No." Iris was tired, since she had been standing for hours, but she was so happy to see those people’s smiles when they received the food. The sight healed her bitterness and made her heart feel lighter. She liked this feeling and every time they thanked her, she wouldn’t forget to remind them to thank Alpha Cane instead.

Even though none of them dared to approach Cane, since he gave off a cold aura and he was in the middle of a serious conversation with Sir Elijah, they saw the Alpha in a different light. Of course, they were extremely grateful.

"Let someone else do it, you need to eat, there is something I want to talk about with you." Cane put his arm around her waist protectively in front of everyone there.
