Chapter 345: HE WAS NOT AN ALLY TO ANYONE

Iris was still wearing his cloak and he pulled the hoodie down to cover her face and her hair, but one look at her body, anyone could easily recognize her.

She thought Cane would leave her alone with Hanna and she would spend her night with her because he would be too busy taking care of the mess inside the palace.

But, what Cane said about them leaving the capital city to go to the Riverside pack had completely caught her off guard.

What about the problem with the Crown Prince? Princess Osana’s curse? Prince Kellan and the orphanage? Why would he go to the Riverside pack instead when he had created this whole mess? Would he just leave it all at that?

Iris thought Cane would put his scheme into motion and stay in the capital city until he saw the result. So, why did he want to go to the Riverside pack all of a sudden? What was he going to do there?

The more Iris thought about it, the more she found it hard to understand Cane’s way of thinking. Even as someone that was rather involved in his schemes, she was unable to figure out Cane’s next possible move, let alone those people that he used without them knowing it.

Amidst her confusion, Iris stayed silent, as she followed Cane to meet with Alpha Dristan and Koda. This meeting was supposed to be a secret meeting between them.

"Alpha Cane," Alpha Dristan greeted Cane with his deep voice. He had brown eyes and shoulder length hair, which he tied behind his nape. He was half a head shorter than Cane and his body was slightly lean for a male warrior, probably he got too comfortable with his wealth and enjoyed himself too much.

"Alpha Dristan," Cane greeted him in the same way.

Iris lifted her head slightly, so she could read what each were saying.

"It’s a pleasure to finally meet you in person," Dristan said. All this time, their communication had happened through Koda. After all, two alphas talking to each other with the turmoil still brewing within the palace wouldn’t project either of them in a good light. They still needed to take precautions against the King. "I would like to thank you for the way you are assisting us."

Koda glanced at Iris, even without looking at her face or her peculiar hair, he knew it was her and was rather confused because Cane looked so attached to this woman. He saw the way he cradled her in his arms earlier. Wasn’t she the daughter of Alpha Gerald? The person who had destroyed his entire pack?

"From now on, it is up to you how you will take advantage of the situation," Cane said. "I have provided a situation you can gain the most benefit from. Plan your moves carefully."

And the conversation lasted for half an hour. From what Iris could gather, it was Koda, who had put the ring inside the Crown Prince’s cabinet. It was the same ring that Cane got from Will. It belonged to Princess Osana and somehow, he managed to do that, since they had their own people inside the palace as well.

After all, they had to have an insider, because Prince Vemion was from their pack and it would help Lady Ayla stabilize her position as the mistress of the King.

After falling down while facing so many accusations against himself, Alan wouldn’t be able to get away unscathed anymore and the King would be forced to strip the title from him right away.

Alan would be counted lucky if just his position was stripped from him, because the crimes against the royal family, such as putting curse on princess Osana could get him hanged.

As for Cane, he really wanted to know to what extent the King would protect Alan and what the reason behind it was. Was it because of Lady Cyan? How powerful that mistress was to have the King wrapped around her finger?

Therefore, once the position of the Crown Prince became vacant, the people from the Red Claw pack would push the baby in Laluna’s stomach, which was none other than Prince Vemion’s child, to fill the position. After all, none of the King’s other sons had a great family that got their backs, because most of them came from humble families in the capital city.

It was up to Dristan and Koda how to bargain for the position with the King, because Cane had provided them with a favorable enough situation. He would let his game pieces move on their own, after he showed which path they should take. It would save him time and energy to deal with people he didn’t like.

Especially people like Kellan. People from the Red Claw pack would be strong enough to suppress him from taking the position of the crown prince back. Letting them deal with that matter, Cane would take care of something else.

Cane let his pieces move in the directions he wanted, making them think he was their ally, while the truth was far from it, he was not an ally to anyone.

Beside him, Iris tugged his sleeve slightly, reminding Cane that it was almost midnight and he would shift into his lycan form any time soon. Iris was nervous that if they didn’t leave soon, he would expose himself to them, though she was sure Cane would have never planned to do that.

"I will wait for the good news of your grandson’s birth." Cane nodded at Koda and Dristan at the end of their conversation, hearing which they were very pleased.

Originally, Alpha Dristan didn’t mean to have a strained relationship with the royals or cut on the supply of the magic stones, as it would lead to a war, but after he heard the plan from Koda, he changed his mind. After all, the situation of having someone from their pack crowned as the next king would only shower them with long term benefits.

For a greedy person, such an offer would be so tempting, more so, the plan Cane offered to them was not a high risk one at all, they only needed to be sneaky about it.

"May I know whether your mate is really able to sense the black magic or it was only a stage?" Alpha Dristan couldn’t help but be so curious about it.

Cane smiled, but his voice was as cold as usual. "I would rather not say anything about it."

Hearing that, Dristan guffawed and shook his head. "If you need anything, I will be more than willing to assist." Dristan nodded politely at Alpha Cane. He didn’t expect him to turn out so well in terms of being a mastermind behind this huge scheme.

"Actually, there is one thing I want," Cane said lightly and this caught their attention so fast.

"What is it?" They had expected this, because there was no way Cane would do all of this without any ulterior motive, but what he wanted was not what they were thinking.

"My mate loves diamonds." Cane kissed her hand gently. "I heard you found your lost treasure, the diamond white tiger." The way he asked and brought up this topic was very smooth, not to mention his lie that Iris loved diamonds.
