Chapter 298: HE HAD BEEN WAITING FOR THIS

"You can call me by my name," Cane said with his eyes still closed, while Iris undressed in front of him. He leaned his back against the sofa.

Most of the time, unless Iris was overwhelmed or agitated, she would call Cane as ’alpha’. Before, when she was still a slave to him, she would call him her master, but right now, he wanted her to call him by his name.

It was a rare occasion for Iris to call him by his name, but now she remembered, every time she did that, Cane never corrected her.

"Cane."

"Hm?"

Somehow, Iris felt giddy when she called him by his name. "Thank you for taking care of me."

There was no answer from Cane and Iris almost thought he fell asleep, but then instead of answering her question, he asked her. "What else are you allergic to?"

Iris thought about it for a while. "Nothing. Only strawberries." She frowned when she saw the dress had a string on the back. This was a type of dress that would need someone else’s help to tie it for you.

Little did Iris know, the dress was chosen by Hanna and that was the main reason why she chose this kind of dress for her.

After a few minutes of struggling with the string, Iris gave up, she approached Cane and made the Alpha open his eyes all of a sudden, he was on alert because he felt someone come closer to him.

"What is it?" However, he immediately relaxed when he saw it was just his mate. His head was throbbing painfully because of lack of sleep and the thoughts of the countless things he needed to take care of.

"Can you help me?" Iris turned around and gathered her hair on her left shoulder to show her back. She was always self conscious when she showed him her back, because it was so ugly. She really didn’t like this kind of dress.

Cane looked at her and saw that annoying string again. He helped her before with the string and was pretty sure he disliked it, because he didn’t have any idea how to tie it prettily.

Yet, he still stood up and took the string, as he tried to figure it out. When he looked at her back, he saw her scars. Some of them looked so deep and painful. He could only imagine how much she bled when she got these scars.

For a moment, his hands stopped, he stared and this made Iris fidget. She could feel his eyes on her back.

"Cane?" Iris turned around her body and found his eyes, staring at her. "I- I will ask Hanna to do it."

But, Cane simply turned her body around again and this made Iris squirm, trying to hide it from his eyes, but what else could she do when he held her firmly.

Anxiously, Iris used her hair to cover her scars. "I will ask Hanna..."

As her hair cascaded down behind her back, Cane pulled her closer to him. His left hand wrapped around her waist, while his right hand gathered her hair to her right shoulder, exposing her back once again.

"Cane?" Iris tried to get away from him, but then she was stunned, because she felt his lips on her back. His lips were so cold, but his breath was so warm, as he trailed his lips down her spine, kissing her wounds. Iris froze in her place, not knowing what to do. "Cane...?"

What was he going to do? What did he say? She was sure he said something because his lips were on her skin.

’Don’t get sick.’

That was what Cane whispered to her.

Iris felt her skin burning, as her heart leapt in her chest. Why did he kiss her scars? Didn’t they look so ugly and disgusting? Iris was uncomfortable. She felt Cane didn’t need to do this, because she was afraid he would loathe her.

His body engulfed hers, his scent was intoxicating and the way he kissed her back was very intimate, but suddenly Cane stopped and he let her go, but he didn’t fix her dress. The Alpha walked toward the door and opened it slightly, so the person, who had been knocking, wouldn’t be able to see inside.

"What is it?" Cane asked Ethan, who looked so distraught. Whatever it was, it wouldn’t be good news.

"Koda is here, he came with five of his warriors."

Koda was the former beta of the Red Claw pack, he was Prince Vemion’s grandfather and even though he had stepped down from his position as a beta, he still held some power over the pack. He led the warriors from the Red Claw pack, demanding the King to solve this problem, but even now, King Aeon still held back the investigation, treating this matter as if this was a secret, albeit people had been biting each other’s ears about this.

Cane had expected he would come looking for him and it must be the King, who had provoked this man to confront him directly, since he delayed his return to the palace and made excuses whenever he summoned him back.

There was a vicious smile on his lips when finally Koda came to find him himself. He had been waiting for this.

If Cane was the one who went looking for Koda, the King would be suspicious of him, but if it was the King himself, who had pushed the former beta to find him by himself, he wouldn’t be suspicious about this meeting.

Cane had been thinking about how to meet Koda without raising the King’s suspicion, but a chance came on its own. He just have to make the most of his situation.

"What is it? Is it also part of your plan?" Ethan narrowed his eyes, he could feel a chill run down his spine to see the malevolent look in Cane’s eyes right now.

"Where is he?" Cane didn’t answer his question.

"He is waiting in the Prince’s study, Prince Kellan is accompanying him right now."

Prince Kellan didn’t stay in this orphanage, but he had his own room and study here. Moreover, because of the construction, he needed to travel back and forth to oversee the progress, even though he didn’t need to.

"Hm." Cane nodded. "Call Hanna, tell her to stay with Iris."

And after saying that, Cane left to meet with Koda.

Alan was so annoyed by the task that his mother gave to him. He needed to get close to the merchant from Karam, but Lou was not someone that he could get along well with. This merchant was too carefree and he still remembered how he bullied him when they were in the black market.

However, with her mother’s influence, King Aeon appointed him to be the person in charge of the project to install magical devices around the capital city in order to defend themselves against the monster attack.

Especially after the two monster attacks, the King had been enforcing it to be completed as soon as possible and because Princess Osana was not in a condition where she could be the person in charge to pay attention to the progress, it would be Alan, who would take the role.

"You are late," Lou said, feeling annoyed when he saw Alan.
