Chapter 217: MORNING DISTURBANCE
Iris woke up the next morning and found herself alone. She looked at the spot beside her and knew Cane had slept there last night because that side was slightly unkempt, but it seemed he left very early in the morning.
Iris couldn’t recall his presence, because she slept throughout the night and didn’t wake up at all. She was very tired after their long journey and had seemingly passed out the moment her head hit the pillow and felt the comfort of the bed after weeks of sleeping inside the shaking carriage.
She rubbed her sleepy eyes and yawned. She felt like she could continue to sleep until noon, but then Hanna entered the bedroom with a tray full of breakfast. Her face looked ecstatic to see Iris was up, as she giggled when she saw her hair. It almost looked like a lion’s mane, as it framed her tiny face.
"Your hair looks cute," Hanna commented, as she put down the tray and sat down on the edge of the bed. She stretched out her hand and pulled her curls free.
With this type of hair, she needed to pay added attention, since brushing it too excessively would only make the curls even messier.
"Come, wash your face and eat your breakfast, we need to see the seamstress for your dress for the ceremony later," Hanna tugged at Iris’ hand, trying to make her get off the bed. "You need to try on your dress for tonight too, tonight is the new year’s eve! You didn’t forget about it, right?"
Because Hanna was the personal maid for Iris, thus all the rundown was given to her by the head servant from the palace.
The ceremony would be held two weeks from now and since tonight was a monumental event of the year, needless to say, there would be a big party to celebrate it, where the palace would open their gates to greet the commoners. This occasion only happens once a year.
"I didn’t forget," Iris replied sleepily, as she got off the bed and went to the bathroom. She didn’t forget about the new year’s eve, but because nothing interesting happened during the celebration of the new year before this, she wasn’t really looking forward to it. It felt like only another day had passed. There was nothing special about it and Hanna knew.
"Tonight will be different, Miss. We can meet a lot of people from the capital and from what I heard, they will open the gates." It was easy for Hanna to blend with other people and meeting new friends always excited her, thus even though this was the first time she was in the palace, she didn’t feel awkward at all.
But, it was so different with Iris, hearing there would be a lot of people and even commoners inside the palace, only made her even more nervous.
"Don’t worry, I will be with you," Hanna reassured her, as if she could smell her anxiety had increased.
Iris didn’t say anything and let Hanna take care of her hair, while she had her breakfast. She also chose the best dress for her to go out, because right now she was the Luna of the Blue Moon pack and also the mate of the Alpha from the Howling Wolf pack. She needed to be presentable in front of all the people.
Iris was wearing a white dress with golden lace on its hem and its high collared neck, coupled with a fur cloak in the same color, while her hair cascaded down behind her back with half of it tied up into a bun above her head.
Hanna was delighted that she didn’t forget to bring this dress and managed to stuff it inside their luggage.
Wearing this color, Iris looked regal and innocent at the same time, people who didn’t know her would think she was a princess from a great kingdom. There was something about her that gave off the feeling of serenity, as if there was nothing that could bother her.
With Hanna, she walked down the corridor to go to the east palace, where they would see the seamstress to try on a few dresses.
But, when they were about to enter the carriage that would take them to the east palace, someone approached them.
It was Hanna, who heard his greeting, while Iris noticed it because she stopped talking and turned her head to bow respectfully to the person that came to them.
It was Lou. He was wearing his favorite red cloak with a different design this time, which made him look carefree and as if the cold wind couldn’t bother him at all.
"Long time no see red hair," Lou greeted Iris, which made Hanna frown, this man shouldn’t have greeted her missy that way. She was the Luna of two packs.
However, she didn’t dare to correct him, because even Iris didn’t say anything about it.
Since she saw the strange dark wisp emerging from Cane’s palm, she completely forgot about Lou’s existence.
"It’s great to see you, you look so gorgeous in that dress," Lou complimented her.
"Thank you," Iris replied politely, as she smiled softly at him.
"I guess, you are going to the east palace, am I right?" Lou guessed it correctly, which made Hanna slightly uncomfortable. She had this instant dislike toward this carefree man. "Let’s go, I will go with you, because I need to discuss some business with Princess Osana. You don’t mind if I go with you, right?"
Despite the question, Lou had opened the carriage door for Iris and offered his hand to help her to get into the carriage, like a gentleman.
The east palace was the same palace where Princess Osana lived, thus Lou’s excuse made sense.
"Sir, I don’t think it is appropriate for you to ride the same carriage with Miss Iris," Hanna tried to interfere.
However, hearing that, Lou only laughed. "This is the capital city, here people are not that strict about the relationships between men and women."
