The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 215: SHE DID NOT LIE

Chapter 215: SHE DID NOT LIE

’What is it?’ Cane mouthed. He thought she was feeling uncomfortable. After all, this was the first time she was in the palace, being scared for Ethan on top of that.

But when she raised her head and looked at Cane, she only frowned and looked even more uncomfortable to talk. She glanced around, indicating that she couldn’t talk in front of so many people. It was strange for her to act this way.

Cane looked at her for a moment before he let the King know that his mate needed to take rest.

"She is not like us, her body is way more delicate and a long journey in this harsh weather has taken a toll on her," Cane said smoothly. Everyone present there knew that Iris was a runt and fell sick constantly, thus the King didn’t have any reason to hold them back when the conversation with Lou didn’t concern him at all.

"Vemion, take them to their rooms, it seems Iris is going to faint if I hold them back a little bit longer," King Aeon guffawed, but his voice was laced with a mocking tone.

Cane only smiled to hear that. He said nothing at all, as they followed Vemion and Laluna out of the main hall, while someone had taken Ethan to his bedroom. He would stay there until further notice and the King had decided what his punishment would be.

Because the two of them were alpha and luna, of course, they were given only one bedroom, especially when they had been marked and mated.

It was a little bit awkward for Iris, since they didn’t talk for weeks, but right now there was another important thing that she needed to tell him.

"What is it?" Cane asked once they were alone inside the bedroom. Along the way, Iris kept holding his hand, as if she was afraid of letting him go, but that was actually what made him feel weird.

She was not in imminent danger nor was the wrath of the King directed at her, there was no reason for her to act clingy with him.

"This..." Iris raised her hand that held Cane’s. "I saw a dark wisp coming from your hand. I don’t know what it is."

"Dark wisp?" Cane furrowed his brows when he heard that. "What do you mean by dark wisp?"

"This..." Iris slowly let go of his hand and both of them stared at Cane’s hand to see what she meant by the dark wisp.

The dark wisp that Iris saw earlier was akin to light smoke that emanated from Cane’s palm and because she was not sure whether it was a good thing or not, she covered it with her own hands.

Yet, when Iris let go of his hand, there was no dark wisp. Cane’s hand looked normal, which surprised her and then she began to panic.

"I saw the dark wisp earlier, I swear. I didn’t lie to you." She was afraid that Cane would think she was lying to him. "There was a dark wisp, it was like a dark streak, I don’t know what it was, thus I covered it with my hands, I swear! I didn’t lie to you."

Mason and her father always ignored her, concluding she was a liar whenever she said that she was in pain or sick. Her fears stemmed from there whenever she couldn’t prove her words. Not to mention with the way the people from the pack looked at her with judgment in their eyes, thinking she was the same as her father, that she faked her sincerity.

Though it was not related to the problem right now, it connected each event in a way.

"I didn’t lie to you!" Iris tried to explain herself again, because Cane said nothing.

She only stopped blabbering when he raised his hand and caressed her cheek lightly. "Okay," he said simply. "Go and take some rest."

And after saying that, Cane walked out of the room, he had something to take care of.

On the other hand, Iris felt dejected to be left alone like this, because she was not sure if Cane believed her words or not. Or he just wanted to end the conversation quickly, while still thinking of her as a liar. Cane had never explained anything, nor would he talk more than necessary.

Iris felt so down, as she stared at the closed door. She walked into the spacious and exquisite bedroom, which looked so empty, but a moment later, Hanna came to accompany her.

"Will said that you are alone and the Alpha will not return well into the night," Hanna said cheerfully. Will told her to accompany Iris, which she gladly agreed to.

But, of course, Will wouldn’t have told Hanna about that without any instruction.

"This place is so beautiful, isn’t it?" Hanna asked happily, as she brushed her hair and braided it again. Iris looked a little bit pale, thus when it was lunch time, she persuaded her to eat more, but she simply didn’t have an appetite.

Iris’ mind wandered to the black wisp that she saw on Cane’s palm. Did she see wrong? Or was that the side effect of the dark magic that Aria had subjected him to?

There was no way Iris could tell, but Cane had to be more careful. They could accuse him of using dark magic, especially now when the rumors about it was on the lips of every person in the continent.

Later, when the sun set, feeling way too exhausted, Iris fell asleep the moment her head hit the pillows. Hanna lit up all the candles and added more firewood to the fireplace, to keep this room warm.

She just tucked Iris in when someone entered the room.

"Alpha..." Hanna bowed respectfully when Cane walked across the room and stared at Iris’ sleeping face.

"How long has it been since she fell asleep?" He came to fetch her for dinner with the King and the Queen.

"She has been sleeping for an hour," Hanna replied. "Should I wake her up?" She asked.
