Chapter 147: THE GREEDY ALPHA
Chapter 147: THE GREEDY ALPHA
By any means... this bear didn’t even look scary or dangerous at all. How could a creature that was having a hard time moving its own butt like this could put you in danger?
Cane didn’t even move when the bear dragged its big tummy toward Iris and nuzzled the bundle in her arms. This bear knew that this bundle was filled with the water magic stones and wanted a share.
And when Iris didn’t move, it started to whine pitifully, trying to get her sympathy while acting all cute and spoiled.
"You want this?" Iris took out one of the water magic stones and the bear rolled on the ground happily. "Is it really a bear? Why does it act like a dog?" She murmured to herself.
The bear slobbered her hand and crunched on the water magic stone, just like a little kid who got a candy.
Iris laughed lightly, but when she saw the bear’s saliva on her hand, she grimaced. Agh... she used Cane’s cloak, which was now the makeshift bundle in her arms to wipe it off, while the bear seemingly enjoyed the treat.
"Is there a creature that eats magic stones?" Iris looked at Cane puzzled, but the alpha didn’t seem to have any idea about this either.
"Let’s go. We found it." Cane walked away.
Actually, it would be right to say that this bear was the one that found them...
Iris followed Cane, so did the white bear. It rolled its body lazily and moved its chubby butt to follow her, asking for more treats.
"How extravagant is this beast to snack on a magic stone?" Iris mumbled. Where did the rich merchant get a pet like this?
But right at that time when Iris was puzzled over this strange bear, the little lizard on her pouch poked its head out curiously.
Not only that, it jumped out of the pouch and perched on the bear’s muzzle and what happened next was something that Iris didn’t expect at all.
It happened so fast, she couldn’t even react in time.
The little lizard perched on the bear’s muzzle, but then the bear caught it quickly. This was a quick movement, especially after she witnessed how lazy this big fur ball was moving, and then swallowed it.
"Arggh!" Iris screamed in panic, which made Cane turn around in an instant, thinking the bear bit her or something.
But what he saw was; Iris pointing her finger at the bear, while the creature sat looking all docile with its foolish expression, munching on something.
"What happened?" Cane was confused, there was nothing out of the ordinary that happened here. She wasn’t even hurt, nor was she injured.
"That furball ate my lizard!" Iris cried in panic. She was on the verge of tears. If Lou thought of that bear as his pet, so did Iris with her lizard.
Actually, it was not a lizard, but a fire salamander, but in her eyes, they looked the same.
Hearing that, Cane was at a loss. What should he do? He was curious about the lizard, but he didn’t mind if he had to lose it either. As for that silly bear, he didn’t think he would be able to make it spit the lizard, but then Iris was tugging at his sleeve, urging him to do something to save her little pet.
Fortunately, just a few seconds later, the bear spat out the lizard on its own, as the little creature tumbled on the dirt, a wisp of smoke emerging from its mouth. It seemed this little one had tried to burn the bear’s mouth from inside, which caused it to spat it out.
"Oh!" Iris immediately crouched down and wiped the little lizard and put it safely into her pouch, after that, she approached the bear and snapped angrily. "Bad bear!"
At this point, Cane had walked away, he didn’t want to waste his time with those silly creatures, as they needed to go back to the Arleen city and leave this pack as soon as possible.
If it was not for a good chance to snatch these many water magic stones, he wouldn’t even have come here.
"Open the door and call your master," Cane said curtly to the old man.
The old man was surprised to see the white bear, but it was not like this was his first time to see it, thus that chubby bear must be the so-called Lil Thing.
He opened the door and right behind it was Lou, he smiled brightly to see the white bear and immediately rushed forward to hug his pet.
"Lil Thing!"
Cane beckoned Iris to come with him, because he didn’t want to be there to witness such a sentimental reunion between the two weird creatures.
Iris rushed toward him and left the cave with her bundle, but the bear whined, wanting to follow her.
It took Cane around three to four hours to leave that cave with Iris, thus when he returned to the waiting room, Redmond and Will had become impatient and were about to question their whereabouts.
"I thought I will never see you again," Redmond said to Iris with exaggeration, which made her purse her lips. "What is that?" He pointed to the bundle.
"Water magic stones," Iris replied in a low voice, but it was not low enough, because Lou, who just entered the room with the bear behind him, heard that.
"You took my water magic stones!" Lou hollered. "How can you find that many stones?!" No wonder Lil Thing wanted to follow her.
"That’s an abandoned cave, remember? You said it yourself." Cane stood in front of Lou. "Now, where is the Asturi stem?"
Based on the rule of this continent, an abandoned place had no owner, thus whatever you found there, it would belong to you. The same rule was applied here.
Lou was furious, he didn’t believe what he heard. "You just robbed my water magic stones and you want the Asturi stem as well?! Don’t you think that you are so greedy?!"
