Chapter 112: MENTAL BREAKDOWN
Chapter 112: MENTAL BREAKDOWN
There was this light that flickered in her pocket when she hoped there was someone lighting up the bonfire back, but all the others seemed unbothered by the cold night wind.
Iris blinked her eyes and reached out to her pocket only to find the small fire magic stone. In the dark, it glowed beautifully. The surface of the stone was the color of red, but the last time she saw it, it was a dark red, yet right now, it was light red.
Iris was amazed to see the stone, she had never seen something so magical like this, though she heard many stories about the magicians and sorcerers and how great the power that those magic users held was.
The stone was so warm and somehow, this made her whole body also feel warm, just by clutching onto it.
Mesmerized by what she was seeing, she forgot about her fear of the darkness that still surrounded her, because right now, she had only eyes for this tiny light in her hands.
This was so beautiful. She was enchanted and kept staring at the stone that was the size of only a joint of her finger.
She stared intensely and saw something flicker inside. Was she seeing things? There was actually a flame of fire inside.
Iris frowned. Did the other magic stones have the respective elements inside of them as well?
Somehow, Iris became very curious about those magic users and hoped she could meet one. Right now, she didn’t even realize that two people had been missing from the cave.

"Shift!" Cane growled ferociously. His body was reeking of the smell of the blood of those savages that they had killed.
He managed to arrive in the nick of time before those savages were the ones who finished his gamma off.
However, the brown wolf growled at him instead. He refused to shift back into his human form, as he licked at his wounds. He was wounded pretty heavily and it would take hours for him to heal.
Running out of his patience for his gamma’s little rebellious episode, Cana used his alpha’s voice to force him to shift back into his human skin because they couldn’t communicate freely when they were in their beast form.
"SHIFT!"
Right at that instant, Ethan shifted, as he huddled in a corner, holding his wounded arm, while it was still bleeding profusely.
Seeing this, Cane really wanted to add more to his injuries, but of course, that was only out of fleeting anger because Ethan was the one who had caused this ruckus and endangered his own life.
"Do you know what you have done?!" He strode toward his gamma angrily, but he only glared at him. This was the side of Ethan that not many people knew about.
Some people would see him as a happy go lucky guy who would smile all the time. He could be so goofy at times, leaving people wondering if those ten years didn’t have any effect on him at all.
But the truth was; he was not different from them at all. The wounds were too deep to be healed.
"I told you not to do anything!" Cane’s eyes were filled with rage, yet the gamma held his gaze and reciprocated it with the same ferocity.
"I never agreed to that!" He growled.
"Don’t growl at me!"
Ethan lowered his head, as he whimpered, because of the pain that was inflicted, since he resisted the alpha’s command. Cane didn’t want to resort to this method, but this was the only way for him to make him behave.
"I am going to kill them all. I am going to kill them all. I am going to kill them all." Ethan kept repeating the same thing over and over again, as he rocked his body. He stared at the ground, but it seemed he couldn’t really see anything, he was trapped in his own mind. "Kill them. Kill them. We must kill them."
Seeing this, Cane closed his eyes and crouched down in front of him. He sat down next to him and patted his back without saying anything, just like when they were still in the prison after they went through torture.
Comforting words were bullshit, they couldn’t use them, thus the only way that they could do to make things a little bit easier for themselves was to make sure that they were not alone. There would be someone who would sit next to you and be there for you.
Cane lifted his head and watched the night sky, while the carcasses of the savages were scattered on the cold ground of this cave.
There were also a few injuries on his arms, but all of those had already started to heal.
Right now, the only sound that could be heard in this quiet cave was Ethan’s voice, chanting the same eerie sentences again and again, until he fell asleep, too exhausted to stay up the whole night.
Cane only woke him up when the sky turned a little bit brighter in the distance and both of them returned to the other cave, but none of them talked about what happened last night. It was almost like a taboo topic for them to talk about how someone had a mental breakdown every now and then.
However, once they were inside the cave, everyone was already up and was ready to go.
"Where have you gone?!" Redmond chided once he saw Ethan. He was supposed to stand guard in the second turn, but this man had disappeared, leaving them in a vulnerable state without anyone looking after them. "Are you out of your mind?! We could have been slaughtered in the middle of our sleep!"
He was exaggerating things, even though they were deep in sleep, as a shifter, their instinct would still kick in if they felt something was wrong around them.
"Enough!" Cane said sternly to Redmond.
The warrior glared at the alpha. He was about to retort, but then he glanced behind Cane. "Where is Iris?" He asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Iris is not here. I thought because both of you are missing, she must be with you." Redmond and the rest of the men were alarmed.
