Chapter 724: You’re Not Qualified to Kill My Fourth Brother!
Qiao Dabao’s face was ashen, her eyes bloodshot with fury. "Bai Xiuzhi, if you dare harm even a single hair on my sister, I will make sure you die without a burial place!"
Bai Xiuzhi sneered coldly, "Fine, let’s see who will die first! Your sister or I!" She tightened her grip.
Blood trickled from Qiao Erbao’s neck, her face pale as a sheet of paper, her body trembling in pain.
"Elder sister..." she gasped weakly.
Bai Xiuzhi slightly loosened her grip, giving Qiao Erbao a chance to speak, perhaps hoping she would try to convince her elder sister.
"Don’t worry about me, don’t worry about me!" Qiao Erbao cried, her small body trembling violently. But her words were defiant. "They don’t care about the citizens of Jade Wolf City. They’re not fit to be the city lord! For the citizens, for the Qiao family, don’t worry about me! I’m not afraid of dying!"
"You little wench!" Bai Xiuzhi shouted angrily, and with a violent twist of her hand, the blood from Qiao Erbao’s neck poured out even more fiercely.
Lord Meng’s eyes widened as he glared at Qiao Dabao. "Aren’t you going to face the enemy yet?! Are you really going to watch her die?"
Qiao Dabao gritted her teeth, about to give orders to the Qiao family members to prepare for battle, when suddenly, they heard the sound of chanting scriptures from below.
The chants had no effect on them directly, but Lord Meng and Bai Xiuzhi both grimaced in pain, their faces contorting in agony.
Qiao Dabao looked down in confusion.
It was Zen Master Cinian! He was reciting scriptures!
Few could withstand the power of Buddhist chanting!
Qiao Dabao felt a sense of joy and relief.
"Old monk!" Bai Xiuzhi hissed, her voice hoarse with pain, "She’s the one you’ve killed!"
Just as she was about to squeeze her hand harder on Qiao Erbao’s neck, the air suddenly shimmered with runes, and a figure appeared out of nowhere.
Nanli swung the Dark Moon Sword, slicing through Bai Xiuzhi’s fingers with perfect precision.
Bai Xiuzhi shrieked in agony as her hand was severed, stumbling backward. The other hand, still intact, tried to drag Qiao Erbao over the city wall.
"Erbao!" Qiao Dabao shouted, moving to rescue her sister.
But Chu Yang was faster. With a flash of his Teleportation Talisman, he cut through Bai Xiuzhi’s grasp and caught Qiao Erbao mid-fall.
Qiao Erbao, terrified, opened her teary eyes and stared at Chu Yang in a daze, unable to speak a word.
"It’s okay, you’re safe now." Chu Yang reassured her.
Despite the fact that Bai Xiuzhi was in the Golden Core stage, and Cinian had just stopped chanting, she was still able to shield herself with spiritual energy. Even though she had been knocked down by Chu Yang’s strike, she wasn’t seriously injured.
Seeing Chu Yang holding Qiao Erbao unguarded, Bai Xiuzhi quickly recovered. Her palm gathered spiritual power. "Chu Yang! I’ll make sure you die!" she spat with venom.
Chu Yang narrowed his eyes, a cold gleam flashing in them.
Before he could act, Nanli appeared by his side.
The wind blew softly as her hair fluttered in the air, forming an elegant curve.
With one swift kick, she sent Bai Xiuzhi crashing away. "You’re not qualified!" she declared.
This kick was not only powerful, but Nanli infused it with fifty percent of her spiritual energy.
Bai Xiuzhi’s body collided with the city wall. The wall, made of special stone, didn’t cave in, but the impact was too much for Bai Xiuzhi to bear. Her internal organs were shattered, her meridians severed. She coughed up a mouthful of blood and crumpled to the ground, her body limp and lifeless.
Though she still had a breath left, death was imminent.
Chu Yang sighed in relief. "Sixth Sister, hurry up and check her wounds. She’s bleeding uncontrollably."
Nanli, uninterested in Bai Xiuzhi’s fate, crouched down to inspect Qiao Erbao’s neck. The wound was deep.
She quickly drew a Wound-Healing Talisman and said, "Don’t be afraid. It shouldn’t hurt your throat."
Qiao Erbao’s eyes were dark, her body frozen in fear. She didn’t speak a word or make a single movement.
The Qiao family and Lord Meng landed beside them.
One group of people rushed to check on Qiao Erbao, while the other looked warily at Bai Xiuzhi.
Cinian and his group arrived just in time.
With him present, Lord Meng and the others dared not make any rash moves.
But Bai Xiuzhi was on the brink of death. Lord Meng cradled her in his arms, feeding her a high-quality Soul-Recovery Pill to keep her alive for a little longer.
He turned to the others, fury in his eyes. "Haven’t you all forgotten? My wife is from the Bai family! You... all of you will pay with your lives!"
Nanli stood up and coldly observed them.
As she got closer, they felt the pressure of her aura, and their bodies involuntarily shuddered.
"How long has it been? If the Bai family was going to intervene, they would have come by now." Nanli glanced at Lord Meng. "I was right. The Bai family has abandoned Bai Xiuzhi. They no longer acknowledge her as one of their own."
Cinian nodded. "Correct."
The guards who had remained loyal to Lord Meng did so not only because of his position as city lord but also because he was married to a woman from the Bai family.
Now, with the city’s protective formation shattered, Bai Xiuzhi heavily injured, and still no sign of the Bai family, it was clear that Nanli’s guess was accurate.
The guards exchanged uncertain glances, slowly beginning to retreat. They clearly had no intention of continuing to follow Lord Meng’s orders.
After all, whether they were killed by Cinian’s incantations or kicked to death by Nanli, they were better off avoiding further conflict.
Lord Meng fumed. "What nonsense are you talking? Surely something has delayed the Bai family! How could my father-in-law, the Bai patriarch, not care about his own daughter?!"
He turned to Bai Xiuzhi, urging her desperately. "Madam, where’s your Telestone? Hurry and bring it out! We need it right now!"
He didn’t want to die here.
Only the Bai family could save them now!
But Bai Xiuzhi didn’t respond.
She glared at Nanli, her voice filled with venom. "You’ll regret this. The Bai family won’t let you off."
Nanli smiled. "I’ll be right here, waiting. You can call the Bai family to come save you now."
Bai Xiuzhi was stunned into silence.
Lord Meng, feeling a glimmer of hope, urged again. "Madam, hurry up!"
But Bai Xiuzhi’s lips tightened. She finally turned to Nanli and spat, "Even if I die, I will never forgive you!"
Lord Meng’s confusion grew. "Madam, why are you saying these irrelevant things? If they’re so arrogant, just call your father-in-law over. He’s a Nascent Soul cultivator!"
Bai Xiuzhi pressed her lips together, unsure of what to say next.
"Madam?" Lord Meng’s voice softened.
Nanli couldn’t take it anymore. She sneered. "Don’t you get it yet? She doesn’t have a Telestone to contact the Bai family."
"That’s impossible!" Lord Meng refused to believe it. "She’s from the Bai family! How could she not have a Telestone to contact them?"
Thinking that Bai Xiuzhi must have been caught off guard and unable to open her Qiankun Bag, he decided to search for it himself.
But Bai Xiuzhi’s gaze flickered. She looked at Cinian.
"Zen Master Cinian, you should be able to contact my father, right?" she asked, her voice full of false hope.
Lord Meng froze.
Cinian stepped forward. "Correct."
Bai Xiuzhi immediately began to sob uncontrollably, choking on her words. "I just want to speak to my father before I die. You’re a monk, with compassion in your heart. You wouldn’t refuse me, right?"
This request wasn’t difficult for Cinian. He took out a Telestone.
He murmured an incantation, preparing to contact the Bai family’s patriarch.
"Old Bai, your third daughter has some last words."
Just as he was about to hand the Telestone to Bai Xiuzhi, she suddenly changed her demeanor, her eyes narrowing coldly. "Bai Patriarch, if I die, you will never know where your real daughter is!"
