Chapter 560: Naming, The Hell Lord Is a Bit Too Jealous
"Got it!"
Encouraged, the ghost envoy showed his skill once again. With a swift closing and opening of the gate, they arrived in the sky.
Nanli praised him, "You’re really something."
The ghost envoy, blushing under the praise, smiled shyly, almost losing himself.
Qiu Hai, with a dark grin, said, "Aren’t you impressive? Maybe we should just let you take my place."
The ghost envoy was instantly terrified and dropped to his knees.
"Hell Lord, I wouldn’t dare! It’s all thanks to your excellent guidance!"
Nanli glanced at Qiu Hai. "Stop scaring him. If you think he’s capable, just give him a judge’s position."
Qiu Hai pouted. "Ancestor has spoken. How could I refuse?"
Nanli then waved for him to take a look outside, "Seems like it’s foul energy?"
Ghost Fire always left behind some foul energy after burning. Nanli had collected some before since it could harm mortals upon contact.
Though Qiu Hai couldn’t leave the Nether World, he took a look from inside the Nether Sect and laughed. "It sure is."
Nanli’s expression darkened. "Looks like someone from the Immortal World has been collecting foul energy and releasing it into the sky. With that affecting the clouds, it’s no wonder the heavy snow keeps falling."
Qiu Hai crossed his arms, grinding his teeth. "Those bastards, doing this kind of thing!"
Thinking of the people who had died from cold and hunger, Nanli felt a weight in her chest.
"Perhaps we shouldn’t have fired those Ghost Fire arrows at the Immortal World in the first place. Then they wouldn’t have this foul energy to use."
But Qiu Hai disagreed.
"Don’t think that way, Ancestor. They were the ones who provoked us first, and you were merely retaliating! If anyone’s at fault, it’s me for giving Ye Siheng the Ghost Fire."
"Their actions in harming mortals through their cultivation show how shameless they are! Even without the Ghost Fire’s foul energy, if they wanted to hurt people, they’d have found other ways to create foul energy!"
"These scoundrels are nothing but beasts in human form. They don’t value the lives of ordinary people!"
"You’re right," Nanli said, turning her gaze toward the Immortal World barrier. Her voice hardened, "One day, I will break through that Immortal Sect and slaughter every last one of those hypocrites. They don’t deserve to call themselves immortals or live in such a sacred place."
Qiu Hai chuckled. "They’re just cultivators, not true immortals. They call their place Immortal World, but in my eyes, it’s merely a realm of cultivators. Since the gods and celestial beings helped seal the Demon Abyss, there hasn’t been a true immortal in the Immortal World. Except for one person who ascended in the past few thousand years, no one else has made it."
In fact, that one person was the only one who could rightfully be called Celestial Sovereign.
Nanli frowned slightly, "Then that complicates things. How long will I have to cultivate before I can defeat him?"
Qiu Hai gave her a meaningful look. "No, you will be able to defeat him."
Nanli took this as a sign of his trust in her and replied, "Then I need to focus even more on my cultivation. There’s no room for slacking!"
For now, though, the priority was to deal with the foul energy.
Nanli immediately drew talismans, gathering the foul energy into each one.
This was only a small amount. In areas with more snowfall, there was likely even more foul energy.
She sent the ghost envoy to several other locations to collect it all.
The ghost envoy was so exhausted from all the portal-opening and closing that he felt like his soul was being torn apart.
He was utterly drained. Completely exhausted!
Seeing his state, Nanli drew a talisman to restore some of his strength.
"There’s still the Qi Nation. Hang in there a little longer."
The ghost envoy trembled in fear. "My lord, perhaps you could have another ghost envoy help?"
"You open portals with precision. Other ghost envoys might not be as reliable," Nanli said.
Flattered once again, the ghost envoy’s heart swelled with pride. Though he tried to decline, his body had already started opening another portal.
Qiu Hai was practically rolling his eyes to the heavens by now.
After an entire day of hard work, they finally managed to gather all the foul energy from the skies.
Though it was already evening, without the foul energy, the clouds dispersed, and the setting sun broke through.
For the first time in over a month, sunlight shone down on the land.
Even from up in the sky, they could hear the cheers of the people below.
Nanli murmured, "I hope the snow melts quickly."
"It will," Qiu Hai assured her. "No need to worry, Ancestor. It’s already February."
Nanli nodded.
Back in the Nether World, she handed the talismans to Qiu Hai, asking him to purify the foul energy.
Qiu Hai took them without hesitation. Seeing the weariness on Nanli’s face, he said with concern, "Ancestor, you should rest. You’ve been busy all day."
"It was only a few talismans. It wasn’t much. The one who worked hard was this ghost envoy... What’s your name?" Nanli asked.
The ghost envoy, excited, replied, "My name is Gousheng!"
Nanli raised an eyebrow. "Qiu Hai, if you’re going to promote him, you’ll need to give him a better name. Gousheng is too... plain."
The ghost envoy quickly added, "My lord, perhaps you could give me a new name?"
"Sure," Nanli said, staring at him for a while. "How about Ghost Head?"
It meant he was a leader among the ghost envoys, a model to others.
The ghost envoy’s face froze.
That name wasn’t much better than Gousheng.
Qiu Hai was laughing so hard he was clutching his stomach. "Only you would dare ask the Ancestor for a name."
After a moment of silence, the ghost envoy said, "I’d rather stick with Gousheng, my lord."
Sensing his dissatisfaction, Nanli quickly waved her hand. "Give me another chance! I’ll think it over properly."
She furrowed her brow in thought.
If only Ye Siheng were here. He was a scholar.
Nanli had read many books, but when it came to naming, she was hopeless.
Qiu Hai was still laughing.
She shot him a cold glance, then suddenly had a spark of inspiration and snapped her fingers.
"I’ve got it! How about Summer Sea?"
Qiu Hai’s laughter immediately stopped.
He was tempted to ask if she was planning to gather the four seas — Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter — and make four Hell Lords.
The ghost envoy could sense Qiu Hai’s jealousy. He wanted to faint, but as a ghost, that was impossible. So, he said, "I’d rather stick with Gousheng. I really like it. No need to change it."
Nanli looked disappointed. "I thought Summer Sea was a good name. But if you don’t want to change it, I won’t force you."
Qiu Hai quickly sent her off, eager to keep his name unique.
Once she left, Qiu Hai gave the ghost envoy a promotion, making him a judge.
"Thank you, Hell Lord!" the newly appointed Judge Gousheng said in a loud, clear voice.
He had known that Hell Lord rewarded fairly, and his hard work wouldn’t go unrecognized.
But Qiu Hai added, "I need to practice opening the Nether Sect. The judgment work here in the Hell Lord Palace will be handled by you all in rotation."
Gousheng was horrified. "Hell Lord, I just got promoted! I don’t even know the rules of judgment yet!"
Qiu Hai, still a bit jealous, replied, "You’re so capable. You’ll figure it out. The Ancestor even praised you."
With that, he disappeared on the spot.
Gousheng was on the verge of tears, thinking to himself, The Hell Lord is way too jealous.
