The Aloof Lord's Mysterious Wife -
Chapter 446: "Go Sweep the Supervisory Office"
Chapter 446: "Go Sweep the Supervisory Office"
Ye Siheng took a step back, his brows furrowing, "Brother, please understand, I have no intention of seizing your throne."
So, keep that throne of yours for now.
Emperor Muwu gritted his teeth. After a moment, he asked, "Then what were you up to? Why did you keep it from me?"
Ye Siheng briefly explained his trip to Qi Nation.
By this time, Emperor Muwu’s anger had mostly dissipated. After all, his younger brother was exhausting himself for the sake of Mu Nation.
Moreover, the mission had to be kept secret. If Qi Nation’s spies found out, it would all be for nothing.
"Will this incident affect your plan?" Emperor Muwu asked worriedly.
Ye Siheng sat down on a nearby chair. "Brother, don’t worry. The Prince of Liangguang won’t delay for too long. By the time the news reaches Qi Nation, the outcome will already be decided."
It was too early to predict the victor.
But no matter who won, Qi Nation would need some time to recuperate.
Emperor Muwu nodded, mumbling, "Even though you feared leaking the information, you didn’t have to keep it from me. I gave that substitute a box of tonic pills, and now this whole mess happened."
Ye Siheng shot him a look, "Why were you so idle to send tonic pills?"
"Everything I do is for you," Emperor Muwu touched his chin, "Beihan may be unreliable sometimes, but he handled this well. If he hadn’t stopped me, I would have already killed Yu Chunhua."
Ye Siheng sensed the underlying meaning in his brother’s words, his face turning cold. "Brother, were you planning to kill her to cover this up for me?"
"Of course. If A’Li found out you were entangled with another woman, even if she didn’t cut you into pieces, she’d sever all ties with you," Emperor Muwu said.
"I didn’t expect you not to trust me." Ye Siheng’s lips curled into a sneer.
Emperor Muwu looked embarrassed and forced a smile, "Luckily, it was just a misunderstanding. You know, I’ve arranged many marriages, but I’ve never granted a divorce."
Ye Siheng tightened his lips, coldly staring at Emperor Muwu.
Emperor Muwu shifted uncomfortably, feeling the tension from his younger brother.
He swallowed and said, "Let me make this clear: no matter what happens, I must choose A’Li. I can’t let her heart grow cold. She needs to know I’m on her side!"
Ye Siheng snorted, "And what if you end up hurting my feelings?"
"We’re brothers; our bond is deep. Even if you’re hurt today, I’ll make it up to you tomorrow." Emperor Muwu grinned, "Of course, it’s best if you and A’Li remain harmonious."
Ye Siheng turned his head, mocking, "I defend our borders and maintain order at home, yet now I’m being outdone by my wife."
Emperor Muwu sighed, "Why are you jealous of A’Li? Ninth Brother, A’Li is important. Don’t do anything to upset her or betray her. To put it bluntly, the safety of Mu Nation depends on you!"
He earnestly hoped Ye Siheng would take this to heart.
Ye Siheng couldn’t help but laugh.
His brother’s words made him sound like a mere concubine, kept around to amuse A’Li.
Emperor Muwu had his reasons, but he had none.
He could support A’Li when she shone brightly, and protect her when she dimmed.
True love means standing by each other through thick and thin.
But once it becomes tainted with ulterior motives, how can it still be called love?
The brothers talked for a while longer. Emperor Muwu, reluctant to leave, was eventually treated to lunch by Ye Siheng.
After a satisfying meal and a stroll in the garden, Emperor Muwu returned to the palace, happy and content.
As Ye Siheng saw him off, he noticed Qing Feng kneeling in the front courtyard, holding up a thorny vine in his hands.
Qing Feng, head lowered, cried out, "I deserve death. Please punish me, Your Highness!"
The cold wind blew harshly.
Ye Siheng looked at him coldly, slowly adjusting his sleeve.
The slower Ye Siheng moved, the more terrified Qing Feng became.
He trembled slightly, his voice quivering, "I deserve death! I beg Your Highness to punish me!"
"Why did you abandon your post?" Ye Siheng finally spoke. "Zhou Qifeng was out there with my face, and you should have stayed with him, never leaving his side. Why did you chase after the assassin? Weren’t there other Black Armor Guards available?"
And you didn’t even know that Zhou Qifeng had hidden two tonic pills!
How disappointing!
Qing Feng lowered his head further. "I was too ambitious, thinking I could capture the Qi Nation spy and interrogate him. I neglected to watch over Zhou Qifeng, causing you such trouble. I deserve to die!"
They had encountered other incidents during their patrol.
The princess had once read his fortune, and he remembered her words. Going southeast had indeed avoided danger.
He was secretly pleased, thinking he had done well this time.
But who knew Zhou Qifeng would dig such a deep pit for him!
Though he wished to tear Zhou Qifeng apart, he realized it was his own carelessness that allowed Zhou Qifeng to cause such a disaster.
Ye Siheng stared at him. "You keep saying you deserve to die. Why haven’t you slit your throat yet?"
If words aren’t followed by actions, what’s the point?
Qing Feng froze, looking up at Ye Siheng with tears quickly welling up in his eyes.
Sob, he was tough, which was why he could stay by the prince’s side.
Now that the prince had lifted the death curse, he had no more use.
But when the master orders, the servant must obey!
Qing Feng sobbed, dropping the vine and drawing the sword at his waist.
"Your Highness, serving you has been the greatest blessing of my life. In the future, I can no longer serve and protect you..."
He placed the sword against his neck, closed his eyes, and prepared to end it all.
Qingyang, nearby, panicked, "My lord..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Ye Siheng flicked his finger, sending a burst of energy that shattered Qing Feng’s sword.
Qing Feng’s right hand went numb. Tears filled his eyes as he looked at Ye Siheng. "Your Highness?"
"From now on, you’ll sweep the Supervisory Office," Ye Siheng said, brushing past him.
Qing Feng remained stunned on the spot.
Qingyang quickly went over, "Aren’t you going to thank him?"
Qing Feng bowed, pounding the ground in despair, "This is worse than killing me! Ever since I began martial arts, my lifelong dream has been to serve at His Highness’s side, never to marry or have children, to be forever at his service!"
Qingyang’s mouth twitched, "But His Highness doesn’t want you anymore. Maybe it’s time to reconsider your goals."
"Then I might as well die," Qing Feng said resolutely, reaching for the sword again.
Qingyang stomped on the sword, stopping him, and persuaded, "His Highness spared your life, which means you still have a chance. Maybe if you sweep the Supervisory Office well, His Highness will forgive you and let you return to the palace."
"You’re right..." Qing Feng wiped his tears away, his expression steely, "His Highness must be testing me. I’ll sweep the Supervisory Office so clean, I’ll prove I can withstand the test!"
