Chapter 393: I Don’t Want a Neck Injury
Ming Ying looked at the guards on both sides again, confirming that their expressions were normal and they didn’t show any disdain. Only then did she feel at ease to enter the mansion with her maid.
The mansion was indeed large.
Nanli didn’t have any maidservants following her in and, being skilled in Daoist arts herself, she directly summoned a talisman, using a small flame to light the way. Though it looked a bit eerie, it was much more convenient than having maidservants carry lanterns.
On the way to the Qingliang Courtyard, they had to pass by Chu Shuo’s courtyard.
The courtyard gate was open, and Chu Shuo, standing under the porch, immediately saw the eerie flame. Who else could it be but his Sixth Sister!
He was overjoyed and rushed out, "Sixth Sister!"
Qingyang had told him she had important matters to attend to and might not return for a few days. He had been worried sick, unable to eat properly.
Unexpectedly, Sixth Sister had returned so soon!
Nanli had heard the footsteps for a while. When he suddenly shouted, she wasn’t startled.
"Second Brother," she squinted her eyes.
So bright!
Her second brother was wearing a necklace with jewels of various sizes. In the flame’s light, it immediately sparkled!
Noticing Nanli glance at his necklace, Chu Shuo was overjoyed, "Sixth Sister, you finally found an accessory you like. This necklace is a bit large, not quite suitable for you. My aunt has some fine gems. I’ll have a craftsman make one for you tomorrow."
"Second Brother, I don’t like it. It’s dazzling my eyes," Nanli quickly stopped him. "I don’t want a neck injury from something so heavy. Don’t give it to me."
Chu Shuo pouted, immediately deflated.
Seeing this, Nanli said, "I haven’t eaten yet. The cook in your courtyard is good. Why not have her make a meal for three and send it over?"
"Alright, alright." Chu Shuo then noticed Nanli holding a child. Just as he was about to ask whose child it was, he turned and saw Ming Ying and her maid.
His expression changed instantly, speaking disdainfully, "What are you doing in my house? You’re dirtying my place."
Ming Ying immediately felt embarrassed.
Seeing her mistress insulted, the maid couldn’t hold back, "Second Young Master, it was the princess who invited my mistress. Your words are too harsh."
Chu Shuo put his hands on his hips, "Harsh? Your Yuan family bribed my Chunxi Tavern’s waiter to put laxatives in the food. What do you say to that? Luckily, I caught it in time, or Chunxi Tavern’s business would have been ruined, and I’d be in jail!"
Ming Ying was stunned, her face turning red, not knowing how to argue.
This was Yuan Liang’s doing. They were husband and wife at the time, so it naturally implicated her. Chu Shuo’s anger was understandable.
She said, "Princess, I will wait outside. Once Yany’s poison is removed, please send her out."
With that, she pulled her maid to leave quickly.
"Stay." Nanli, rather helpless, said to Chu Shuo, "Second Brother, wasn’t that Yuan Liang’s doing? She probably didn’t know about it, and they’ve already signed the divorce papers today. They have no relationship now."
Chu Shuo snorted, "So what if they’re divorced? They were married for years. Who’s to say she’s not as cunning and sinister as Yuan Liang?"
His voice wasn’t low, and Ming Ying naturally heard it clearly.
She tightened her grip on her handkerchief, feeling even more embarrassed.
Nanli’s face darkened, "Second Brother, I wouldn’t have invited her to our house if I didn’t know her well. Ming Madam and Yuan Liang are not the same. She’s my friend. You can’t speak like that. By the way, Yuan Liang has been arrested and is now in Shuntian Office. So, calm down."
Chu Shuo was excited, his attitude changing quickly:
"I knew bad people get what they deserve!"
"Of course, Sixth Sister has sharp eyes. How could you be wrong? I believe you."
"Madam Ming, I apologize. It’s my fault for speaking without thinking. Don’t take it to heart. I’ll send you a gift..."
"Second Brother!" Nanli quickly interrupted, "Madam Ming’s daughter is poisoned. I need to remove the poison. We can talk about gifts later. For now, please have the cook prepare a few dishes."
Who knows how long he would talk if he started about gifts.
"Alright!" Chu Shuo, worried she might go hungry, quickly went back to his courtyard to get the cook busy.
Nanli breathed a sigh of relief and continued forward, turning to Ming Ying, "My second brother is like that—sharp-tongued but soft-hearted."
Ming Ying forced a smile, "I know. It’s normal for him to resent me, given his shop was almost sabotaged."
Nanli thought about it and found it strange, "With Yuan Liang’s poor character, why did your family agree to the marriage? Didn’t you see it clearly?"
Ming Ying hesitated before saying, "I don’t know what happened. The first time I met him, I was determined to marry him. My parents and brothers couldn’t dissuade me."
Her parents cared for her. Yuan Liang had poor character, so if her dowry was insufficient, she might suffer in his household. Hence, they prepared a substantial dowry for her to take to the capital.
Nanli gave her a serious look, "It was probably a ghost’s trick. But it’s been too long to tell now. Waking up and escaping the pit is not too late."
Ming Ying pursed her lips, "If not for the princess’s advice, I wouldn’t have had the courage to start anew."
"It’s destiny," Nanli assured her.
At Qingliang Courtyard, Rainbow and the others were first surprised, then busily lit the lamps in the medicine room.
Nanli laid Yany on the bed, mixed herbs, and had Rainbow boil three bowls of water into one.
Chunbao, having been around her for a long time, had some experience and asked, "Princess, can’t you use the poison-repelling talisman?"
It was the poison-repelling talisman that earned her a handsome reward from Lord Xie.
Nanli explained, "My poison-repelling talisman isn’t that advanced. It can only remove ordinary poisons. Before, the Royal Heir had poison on his hand, but it hadn’t penetrated his bones, only staying on the surface, which was easier to handle. This little girl’s poison has seeped into her veins and bones. The talisman won’t work here."
Chunbao understood, "I see."
Ming Ying, worried about her daughter, asked, "How do you remove the poison then?"
"With acupuncture, but it will take several sessions to completely remove the poison," Nanli replied.
Ming Ying was doubtful. Nanli was famous for her Daoist arts, but acupuncture for poison removal seemed a bit questionable.
Yany was still asleep. Nanli didn’t delay, undressed her, sterilized the silver needles, and immediately began the acupuncture.
Her expression was focused, her movements quick. Several major acupoints on Yany’s body were soon covered with silver needles.
Timing it carefully, Nanli pulled out the needle from the center of the chest, which was pitch black.
She replaced it with a new needle, repeating the process several times. Yany’s complexion gradually improved, no longer ashen.
