Chapter 355: Becoming a Couple in the Underworld

Chapter 355: Becoming a Couple in the Underworld

Upon hearing this assurance, Nanli slightly relaxed. Flame Sect should be the most familiar with young master Zhao’s whereabouts and activities, so she came here directly.

Master Zhao, without further ado, immediately ordered the elders and disciples to split up and search. They had their own carrier pigeons to report any news promptly.

Seeing Nanli frowning, Master Zhao tried to comfort her, "Your Highness, please rest assured. My son has always been prudent, and the fourth young master has shown great kindness to our Flame Sect. He will exercise restraint."

Nanli, however, retorted, "If he were truly prudent, he wouldn’t have targeted my fourth brother."

Master Zhao was momentarily speechless, unable to rebut. He hung his head, hesitated for a moment, then instructed a disciple to prepare a horse for him, "I will personally go to find him!"

If his son truly committed such an act, bringing calamity upon Flame Sect, he would have to kill him himself.

A disciple, eyes red, protested, "Master, but what about the young lady? What will happen to her?"

Zhao Lingfu had just passed away, and it was only right to prepare for her funeral. To neglect this would be too cruel for the young lady.

At the mention of his daughter, Master Zhao’s tears flowed again, but he forced himself to remain strong, "Follow the Taoist’s instructions for the arrangements. Make sure every detail is in order, or Fu’er will find it hard to cross the Bridge of Helplessness."

As the head of the sect, he had to prioritize Flame Sect. If this matter wasn’t handled properly, how could the sect withstand the wrath of the court?

Nanli, struck by a sudden thought, looked at Master Zhao, "Master Zhao, could you tell me Miss Zhao’s birth date and time?"

Although puzzled, Master Zhao did not avoid the question and provided the information. Nanli’s expression changed, "I understand now!"

Master Zhao was startled, "Your Highness, what is it?"

"Where is Miss Zhao’s body now?" Nanli asked urgently.

Seeing her serious demeanor, Master Zhao didn’t delay and led her to Zhao Lingfu’s courtyard. As they approached the small courtyard, an old maid ran out in a panic, shouting, "Master! There’s a ghost! Miss has disappeared!"

Master Zhao’s face turned pale, "What are you saying? Fu’er was just here... how can she be gone?!"

The old maid, trembling, said, "We were following the rituals to clean and dress her, but as I turned around, Miss’s body disappeared from the bed."

Master Zhao, in disbelief, went in to check, only to find that his daughter’s body was indeed missing. Already heartbroken from losing his daughter, he was now faced with the disappearance of her body, a burden too heavy to bear.

"Fu’er..." he whispered, his body swaying, on the verge of collapsing.

Nanli supported him, pressing his acupoints to help him stay conscious. She scanned the room, "Someone must have used a talisman to move her, taking Miss Zhao away without anyone noticing."

Master Zhao’s anger was palpable, "Which scoundrel did this? Do they not fear divine retribution?"

Nanli suggested, "Your son, perhaps?"

Master Zhao was stunned, "What do you mean, Your Highness?"

Nanli had already guessed young master Zhao’s intentions. With time still on their side, she could afford to remain calm to think clearly and find young master Zhao.

She explained, "Actually, Master Zhao, you need not worry too much. The one who took your daughter’s body is likely the young master."

Master Zhao was even more confused, "Why would he take Fu’er? She’s already passed, why won’t he let her rest in peace?"

Nanli blinked, "He took my fourth brother and your daughter, isn’t it obvious? He wants them to have a ghost marriage."

Master Zhao was taken aback, stammering, "A ghost marriage?!"

Nanli nodded, her tone harsh, "Their birth dates match perfectly. No wonder the young master targeted my fourth brother."

Master Zhao was horrified. He had considered finding a match for his daughter, but she was his cherished child. The potential partners he met were often sickly and unworthy, so he gave up, planning to bury her beside his wife for companionship. He never imagined his son would abduct the living Chu Yang for a ghost marriage!

At that moment, a maid knelt down, eyes brimming with tears, "Your Highness, my lady has always admired the fourth young master. She suffered greatly from her illness and lived a pitiful life."

As she spoke, she kowtowed several times, her fair forehead instantly bruising, "The young master must have acted out of compassion to bring my lady peace. I beg Your Highness to show mercy. If my lady could marry the fourth young master, even in name, she would have no regrets."

The maid, who had served Zhao Lingfu closely, knew many things from accompanying her to Mansion of Marquis Anyang.

Master Zhao’s eyes filled with tears. As a father, he had been unaware of his daughter’s feelings. He looked at Nanli, pleading, "Your Highness, can we discuss this marriage?"

Nanli’s face turned cold, "When I said ghost marriage, didn’t you understand? It’s a marriage between two deceased individuals. You want Miss Zhao to be at peace, but my fourth brother is alive! For Miss Zhao’s peace, would you take my brother’s life?"

Master Zhao hurriedly waved his hands, "My son wouldn’t be so mad. He... he probably just wants them to hold a ceremony?"

"Even a ceremony is unacceptable. If you wanted this marriage, you should have visited us to discuss it, not abduct him." Nanli said coldly, "Besides, someone impersonated my brother and was killed, making us believe my brother was dead. Is this just for a ceremony?"

Clearly, they intended to have her brother accompany Zhao Lingfu in death!

Master Zhao’s heart sank, his face darkening. He slammed his palm on the table, shattering it, cursing, "That unfilial son!"

To force someone into such a dire situation was unforgivable! If Chu Yang was harmed and Flame Sect implicated, he would be too ashamed to face his ancestors.

The maid, terrified, shrank back, "Your Highness, my lady never intended such a thing. She knew her life was short and kept her feelings buried."

Nanli, uninterested in the maid’s plea, focused on the immediate issue, "Midnight is the best time for a ghost marriage. We must find them quickly to prevent a tragic mistake."
