Chapter 346: The Path to Immortality
Chong Jiu instinctively wanted to strike, but as soon as he reached out, Nanli slapped a Binding Talisman on him.
Chong Jiu: ...
Feeling the talisman’s power firsthand, he was shocked. Even if he cultivated for another twenty years, he might never be able to break free from this Binding Talisman.
But it was just a Binding Talisman—he could still talk.
"What are you doing here?"
Right now, Chong Jiu was already weak and exhausted.
Nanli said, "I put a Tracking Spell on you from the beginning, but this soul-embedded spell develops slowly, so it’s only taking effect now."
Chong Jiu checked himself and turned even paler. The Tracking Spell had developed inside him—it couldn’t be broken by losing a limb or even by dying!
Because this spell was branded on his soul, the only way to avoid being tracked was to let his soul be scattered to the winds!
He felt both frustration and admiration. "You’re truly skilled to have created such a Tracking Spell."
Nanli gave him a sidelong glance. "Your standards are too low. If I were truly skilled, this spell should have taken effect the moment I cast it."
Chong Jiu felt like coughing up blood. He glared fiercely at Nanli. "Don’t set the bar too high, or you’ll make it impossible for anyone else."
Even his master might not have been able to do this.
Not to mention, with a casual hand gesture, Nanli had suppressed the evil dark mist within him.
"I always hold myself to strict standards; that’s how I make progress." Nanli glanced around. "You’ve been out. What were you doing?"
Chong Jiu couldn’t help but laugh coldly. "Isn’t that a silly question?"
Luckily, he had the foresight to send his master’s three souls and seven spirits away beforehand. Otherwise, Nanli would have figured out his plans with a single glance.
Nanli nodded in understanding. "True, you wouldn’t say."
Then she took out a Truth Talisman.
Chong Jiu, however, was not worried at all and even looked a bit disdainful.
Nanli pressed the Truth Talisman onto him and asked, "Why are you so concerned about my sister-in-law? What are you up to?"
Chong Jiu clamped his mouth shut and refused to look at her.
Nanli raised an eyebrow, touched his forehead with two fingers, and suddenly understood: "You’ve had a defensive talisman on you since birth. Now, this person is truly impressive. Your defensive talisman still works today."
Fortunately, the Binding Talisman controlled only the body, not the mind; otherwise, it wouldn’t have worked.
When it came to his master, Chong Jiu felt a bit proud. "My master is the best in the world!"
Nanli stood up and looked around the hidden room, finding various talismans and elixirs. Some talismans were unique, even ones she had never seen before.
Seeing this, Chong Jiu shouted, "Stop! If you touch another thing, I’ll cut off your hand!"
Nanli waved a healing talisman at him, showing her slender wrist. "Here it is; come and cut it off."
Chong Jiu ground his teeth in fury, his anger burning, but he couldn’t move!
Master, your talisman can prevent mind control, but why didn’t you make it more versatile?
Nanli wandered around, examining many items before asking, "What’s your master’s name?"
These talismans and formations were not made by Chong Jiu. She wanted to meet such a capable person.
Chong Jiu replied, "You’ll see in due time!"
Nanli frowned. "Why not now? Is he on a long journey?"
"Exactly." Chong Jiu narrowed his eyes, a plan forming in his mind. "If anything happens to me, my master won’t let you off."
Nanli couldn’t help but laugh. "You’re shameless. You’re the one courting death, and you’re blaming it on me?"
Chong Jiu shamelessly continued, "So don’t let me die. My master won’t hold it against you, and might even teach you a thing or two in gratitude."
Nanli’s smile deepened as she approached him. She bent slightly, her gaze cool and sharp. "You don’t need to threaten me. I won’t let you die until I figure out what you’re up to."
Chong Jiu secretly breathed a sigh of relief. As long as he kept his mouth shut, he could stay alive.
His master had entrusted him with great responsibility when he was young. He only wanted to see his master defy fate, be reborn, and continue cultivating before he died.
But he was still worried and tried to provoke her: "You may be skilled, but you’re still young. You probably can’t purge the evil dark mist from my body and repair my organs."
Nanli grasped his chin, her smile dangerous. "You underestimate me."
Facing her cold, beautiful face, Chong Jiu’s heart wavered, but he quickly recovered. "Are you better than my master?"
Nanli raised an eyebrow. "Well, I’ll have to take on that challenge. I’ll take you back to Prince Yu Mansion, but you must behave. If you don’t cooperate, I might not be better than your master."
Chong Jiu was overjoyed. This Chu Nanli was indeed young and competitive, easily provoked into action.
Being imprisoned didn’t matter; staying alive did. Once his master was reborn, he would naturally help him escape.
"Fine, I’ll be watching." Chong Jiu said coldly.
A gleam flashed in Nanli’s eyes, her smile meaningful. "You’d better watch closely."
Seeing her smile, Chong Jiu felt a bit uneasy. It seemed like she was planning something.
Well, he would be careful in Prince Yu Mansion, and if things went wrong, he could always choose death.
It was late.
Qingyang had been waiting outside with the Black Armor Guard for a long time.
They took Chong Jiu back to Prince Yu Mansion first, then gathered the items from the hidden room, transporting them to Marquis Anyang’s Mansion in batches.
Despite his fury, Chong Jiu was powerless.
Outside the hidden room was an unremarkable shop, and even the owner didn’t know there was an entrance to a hidden room in the backyard. If Nanli hadn’t followed the tracking spell, they would never have found this place.
Once everything was moved to the mansion, Nanli began examining the items, looking for any clues.
In the blink of an eye, it was midnight.
Rainbow trimmed the lamp wick to make the light brighter.
But in the still of the night, her yawn was audible to Nanli.
"Rainbow, go rest. You don’t need to stay here." Nanli said, looking up.
"Your Highness, I’m not tired," Rainbow insisted. "But no matter how strong you are, you shouldn’t stay up late. How about resting now and resuming in the morning?"
Nanli was engrossed in her reading and couldn’t bear to put down the books. She gently shook her head. "I’m almost done. If you don’t listen to me, I won’t let you serve me anymore."
Rainbow hesitated but finally obeyed and left.
Nanli indeed finished one book quickly, but she soon picked up a second.
If these were ordinary talisman and elixir manuals, she might not be so absorbed.
But these books were about the path to immortality!
