Chapter 279: The Youngest Daughter of Penglai Island’s Lord
"Master, with your help, I fear I have no way to repay you," Nanli said, knowing she couldn’t become his disciple.
Yun Yubai shook his head, his face becoming unusually serious. "No need for repayment."
With that, he stood up. "Wait for my news." He turned, waved his sleeve, and with a flash of silver light, vanished from sight.
Everyone was stunned.
Ye Siheng frowned slightly. "Is he trustworthy?"
"He should be. My spirit pearl, even intact, is of little significance to him," Nanli said, pursing her lips. "But his reaction just now was strange."
His gaze...it was as if he was seeing an old acquaintance.
Ye Siheng nodded slightly. "We will ask him more when he returns."
Nanli nodded. Now that he was gone, that was all they could do.

The world of cultivators lay north of Kunlun. Since the celestial gate closed, and the heavenly realm set the rule that no one could casually enter the mortal world, the connection between the celestial and mortal realms had weakened.
In a few more dynasties, records of cultivators in the mortal world would become scarce, let alone those of the heavenly realm.
Yun Yubai reached an uninhabited area before flying north on his sword. He traversed layers of clouds and mountains, nearing the celestial realm’s edge. The heavenly realm had barriers and illusions guarding its gate, making it impossible for ordinary people to discover its existence.
Naturally, Yun Yubai wouldn’t enter through the main gate since he had sneaked into the mortal realm. Despite the strong barrier, there were weak spots. Using a magical tool, he opened a temporary small passage and returned to the celestial realm.
Inside, lush greenery and abundant spiritual energy greeted him. Taking a deep breath, he expelled all the mortal world’s impurities, feeling instantly refreshed.
This was the difference between the celestial and mortal realms.
However, the celestial realm was divided into the upper and lower realms. The lower realm’s spiritual energy wasn’t as abundant, with numerous sects and towns where disciples and ordinary cultivators often fought over territory and spiritual stones.
The upper realm was different. Overflowing with spiritual energy, a mortal spending an hour here would immediately feel more alert, and a month could extend their life by at least a month. There were no towns here, only territories divided among the six great celestial sects. Non-disciples couldn’t even set foot here.
Yun Yubai returned to the Seven Peaks Sect, one of the six great celestial sects of the upper realm, where he was an elder and the master of Yunxiao Peak.
At that moment, the head of the Seven Peaks Sect arrived at Yunxiao Peak, accompanied by a graceful woman. Yun Shen hurried to greet them and paid respects to his seniors.
The sect leader glanced at Yun Shen before looking at the closed cave. "Go, call your master out."
Yun Shen’s scalp tingled. His master was enjoying himself in the mortal realm, not in the cave. "Sect Leader, my master is in seclusion. I dare not disturb him."
The sect leader’s face darkened. "How many years has it been? How much longer will he be in seclusion? If you don’t go, I will."
Afraid the truth would be exposed, Yun Shen quickly said, "Sect Leader, please don’t. If my master is disturbed at a critical moment, he could suffer a severe backlash."
Seeing his nervousness, the sect leader narrowed his eyes. "Really? Then I’ll come back another time."
"Rest assured, Sect Leader. I’ll report immediately once he comes out," Yun Shen sighed in relief.
The sect leader turned slightly but didn’t leave. Instead, he suddenly moved to the cave entrance and struck with his palm. The barrier’s cracks appeared, followed by the sound of a mountain collapsing, and a whirlwind nearly knocked everyone over.
One strike wasn’t enough. Embarrassed by his own failure, the sect leader prepared to unleash eighty percent of his power to break the barrier.
"Sect Leader, please show mercy, or my Yunxiao Peak will be razed," came a voice from the cave.
Then, a figure slowly emerged.
"Master!" Yun Shen shouted, grateful and excited. His master had returned at a critical moment.
Yun Yubai waved his sleeve, dispelling the barrier. His face was handsome, and his light gray robe made him look elegant and otherworldly.
The sect leader’s doubts vanished seeing Yun Yubai emerge from the cave. "Worried for years, I became impatient," he said.
Yun Yubai replied, "My lack of talent delayed my progress in the Nine Heavens Technique, causing concern."
The sect leader’s expression softened. "You’ve become much steadier after this seclusion."
Among his six junior brothers, Yun Yubai was the most gifted, and the hardest to discipline, often speaking bluntly without regard for his seniority.
"Though my technique hasn’t improved much, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of respecting my seniors," Yun Yubai said, smiling without it reaching his eyes. "Sect Leader, I was too unruly before and caused you much trouble."
Yun Shen turned his head sharply. Did his master hit his head?
The sect leader was equally shocked. In terms of cultivation, Yun Yubai surpassed him significantly. He became the leader only because he was the eldest disciple, while Yun Yubai respected strength and rarely showed him respect.
Whether Yun Yubai genuinely learned respect or pretended, he had saved face.
The sect leader beamed. "You’re my junior brother. What’s a little trouble? Now that you’re out, I have something to discuss."
Yun Yubai knew what it was but asked, "What is it, Sect Leader?"
"Yan Luo," the sect leader called.
Yan Luo stepped forward gracefully, dressed in a light yellow robe that shimmered under the sunlight, indicating its defensive properties. She respectfully greeted Yun Yubai, her voice soft and pleasant, "Yan Luo from Penglai Island, greets Master Yun."
Penglai Island, one of the six great sects, occupied the easternmost island, rich in spiritual energy and resources.
Yun Yubai nodded indifferently. "The youngest daughter of Penglai Island’s lord?"
Yan Luo smiled. "Indeed."
Yun Yubai’s lips curled slightly. "Your parents are mighty. How come you’re only at the late foundation stage?"
Yan Luo’s beautiful face stiffened. She clenched her fists but quickly resumed her composed smile, showing no displeasure. "My talent is poor, and I’ve disappointed my parents’ expectations."
Her poise and tone were impeccable, leaving no room for criticism.
